These are becoming a pain in the ass to activate

    • +4

So true, my last two sims I had to contact customer service due to an activation error.

      • +1

Seems like it's an issue being faced by many in the last few weeks.

      • After endless order rejections, I managed to make orders but had to live chat to activate #2-11

        • i dont think live chat works anymore, last month i tried to activate through live chat, they said they dont have access to activate the card anymore, only option is to call. so annoy.

          • @LegoLexus: i was able to activate a sim via live chat last week.

          • @LegoLexus: Worked for me last week but they are slow

    • I have 2 that just arrived ready to activate, can't keep up!

    • +3

I have written a template in Word with all the details required. I copy and paste it into a Chat Message and let the magic happen at their end.

      • +1

lol i do that too. if i knew how to code, i'd come up with my own activation chat bot.

      • they still let you activate through live chat?

        • Yes, my most recent activation was 8 days ago.

    • Activated one from a previous deal this morning, no issues at all. Used a mobile phone browser to activate.

    • +2

Yep, not worth it anymore. They are making it hard for SIM sluts.

  • 14.67% profit!! and "Expires: May 18, 2023, 11:59:00 PM"

    • is that when the cashback offer expires? The OP has listed 30 May but im guessing that's just the actual discount with Boost?

      • where did OP list 30 May? ta

        • its right above the "report" button ^^ up there

when u make a deal u put in an expiry and that's the date he selected

          • @Iggemo: hmm… .perhaps OP @mike0mike0 or someone more knowledgeable could clarify? ta

  • Thanks OP. Ordered and tracked

  • Once you activate and use them, after the 28 days do you simply discard them? Or do you have to cancel any services to avoid being billed?

    • +3

Auto recharge is not needed in order to activate the sim so you can toss it.

    • +5

i just discard them. I do keep the sims a little bit longer in case i want to use them to sign up to some rnadom service that requires me to use my phone, or to get multiple stickers form stickermule

    • Discard them - if you haven't added credit card details for auto recharge

    • They're prepaid.

Prepaid plans generally have an auto renewal setting.

If it's on, it's like postpaid. Set and forget.

If it's off, you have to explicitly choose to either recharge or just put up with only being able to receive SMS + calls (no outbound stuff or data).

When a prepaid plan is in this expired state, most telcos will let you keep your number for a few months or even a year. After that time, they will cancel your number.

To get out of it, you can recharge with the same company (obviously promotions for new customers don't apply here) or port out to another telco with a new customer deal.

      • +3

Boost is set NOT to auto recharge!
At activation, Boost has box to check if you want auto recharge. Just don't click on it.

Receives calls & SMS for further ~6 months. (Amaysim for > 12 months)
A handy spare number to use in Deals.

        • +2

Boost changed their default from manual to automatic recharge. You now have to untick when activating

          • @justtoreply: When?
Activated 3 weeks ago! Recharge was set to off. (Just checked)

Activating next in a week, so will look out for that! Always best to check anyway.

            • +1

@INFIDEL: Yeah I activated more recently than that

              • @justtoreply: Could catch those who have been buying a lot of Boost SIMs!

Thanks, I might not have checked at time of activation, as it has been set to not auto-recharge for ages.

Best to always check account later. Can set to off there.

    • Wow, thank you all for the prompt responses!!!

    • +3

Its not just the billing i would worry about. I try to go through chat and deactivate them as they can be used by anyone for anything. They get activated against your ID. Don't want police knocking my door.

    • +1

they don't ask for payment info on activation like some others do (e.g. kogan and catch) so you're good to go after 28 days

  • +1

would it stack with $10 bonus cashback they just issued, ie. 10+17.2 back?

  • Tried calling the twice today, got hung up on both times, doesn't fill me with confidence if I need more info or support.

    • I'd just use chat. I have just used chat in the past.

      • Cheers, I looked for it but got the impression I had to install their app for that…so they can go jump. :)

  • +12

Zip has a $19 cash back at Boost. Use that for a $4 profit instead?

    • Yeah I just did that and it worked. $4 instant profit

      • How did you get notified that the cashback was successful?

Edit: oh never mind. I see it now. But it only appears when I click on "see rewards activity". The green summary in the corner still shows $0.

    • Is the Zip cashback only once per account?

      • +1

No. I recharged my brother mobile this morning and got $19 and just bought a SIM and got $19. Had $38 Cashback so converted $20 to credit my Zip account.

    • So can we just buy a $10 sim to get $19 cashback?

      • +1

Would appear so it but I have not tried.

      • Yes but you need at least $20 in your cashback balance in order to "redeem it" against your Zip balance. So you'd have to buy a SIM and something else, otherwise you'll have the $19 cashback but you won't be able to redeem it.

        • Yes. After I recharged my brother Boost service this morning I thought I was going to have to spend $25 at Catch (Catch is 4% cashback so 25*0.04=$1) to be able to get my $20 BUT then this came along :)

      • Bugger! They fixed it. 🤣
        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/190055/103771/screensh…
I was waiting to buy another 6 $2 sim today. 🙃

        • 😂 was about to do the same after work. At least they didn’t take the cashback back from before

        • But can still buy the $15 one? $4 instant profit.

        • Doesn’t work anymore or I got banned. It’s been stuck at “Oops something went wrong. Experiencing tech issues,” at checkout.

          • @ericfomomoron: That’s boost’s common issue. Try another address or try after 2 hours that should be good

        • +2

They haven’t fixed it. I just bought another $2 SIM and received the $19 cashback

          • @EsteemedCuckold: 🍻 Did the same and got $19

          • @EsteemedCuckold: Bugger! They fooled me. 🫠

            • +1

@Micky14: I wouldn't abuse it since it is a credit balance setting that can be adjusted later.

              • @Neoika: Fair enough.

              • @Neoika: Yeah that’s why I’m only buying the $2 sims haha

Says in their T&c’s that they can reverse the cashback if they choose to

                • @EsteemedCuckold: Are you saying there is a chance that they might reverse cashback on purchasing $15 sim pack? Don't see why they do that as others offer similar deals from time to time.

                  • @apple0604: For $15 sim , they won't. For $2 sim they might.

                    • @Micky14: Yes I agree. I bought a few $15 ones as I need data. Bought a $2 yesterday morning before they update the T&Cs, showing pending at the moment. After they updated T&Cs yesterday afternoon I didn't want to try anymore especially I want to buy a few more of $15 ones.

          • @EsteemedCuckold: Did you receive the cashback instantly?

            • +1

@nightelves: Yes but it goes into your Zip Pay balance. You can’t withdraw it unfortuntately, but you can use it to buy other things where Zip is accepted as a payment method

              • @EsteemedCuckold: I'm hoping to redeem the next set of $120 from Zip. Hopefully they honour it.

                • @nightelves: They will. I have already redeemed 480. Thanks boost or zip whoever doing this promotion. Lol

    • +4

Please post this as a deal. Track was instant and no 'have to activate within 30 days' limit, meaning you can get as many as you want… Next few years' data sorted.

      • Agree, this is way better than the Cashrewards deal. How many did you buy? I've got 2 so far but I'm thinking of of getting a few more

        • +1

Just two atm, coming back to say it needs to be exact multiples of $20 in order to cash out. Maths says have to buy 10 and cash out straight away before the loop closes.

          • @frugalftw: Did you try buying a $2 SIM?

            • @rpb: Is $2 sim triggering cash back too?

              • @frugalftw: I didn't know so I asked you. But I just gave in and tried it and it worked!

The cash back is usually $10 and they have upsized to $19 until EOM so it must have always been profitable.

              • @frugalftw: I just made a $2 purchase and YESSSS instant $19

                • +1

@Nekonekoni: omg someone's gonna lose their job.

                • @Nekonekoni: Yeah ive put $40 back into my Zip balance and have $17 cash back balance. Have nearly recouped the $50 recharge I did for my brother this morning.

          • +1

@frugalftw: Ok, redemption maxes out at 7 (failed at the 8th). Time to go home lol

            • @frugalftw: Time for me to make four more $2 SIM purchases then.
              Thanks for your work :)

              • @rpb: Lol thank Zip and Boost for the game. Hope whoever let the cat out is ok.

                • +1

@frugalftw: Does your Zip account look like this:
                  https://imgur.com/a/DoEaTmL

                  :)

                  • +1

@rpb: 😂 I only bought $15 ones as I needed the data. Oh boy.

                  • +1

@rpb: Same here. Need to buy more to pay off this month's statement. Lol

                  • +2

@rpb: Lol just found out we can only redeem $120 in 24 hours. Will try again tomorrow 😎

                    • +1

@Nekonekoni: 120 limit in 24 hours, 1000 limit in 30 days. Should we hit to 1000 then. 🤣

                  • +2

@rpb: Bought 4 $15 sim deals in 4 transactions. Zip balance owing is $0 and $16 sitting in Cashback balance.
The Boost tile says 19% Cashback, but then when opened it shows $19.
Will see how it goes if they realise it was an error. I've left the linked debit card with $0 in the account just in case.

                    • @JamesLucas: No-one wants to post this as a deal for fear of ruining the golden goose I assume 😀
I added a couple of $2 sims. Now $36 credit in my account and $14 in Cashback waiting to redeem when it hits $20.
