This is the one we can't update firmware on isn't it?

    • +3

      Yes

      • +7

Thanks, I just googled, the AW3423DWF is the one I need by the looks.

    • +1

Can you share what is going on about the firmware?

      • +5

        It's mentioned in this vid
        https://youtu.be/k-6yc1dA--0

TL;DR the DW comes with an NVIDIA module, which is probably why the monitor is more expensive. You need to send the monitor back to Dell for a firmware update, and they'll only do that if there's an actual fault with the unit.
The DWF version uses Freesync instead.

        • -1

Freesync is terrible and suffers strongly from strobing when falling out of VRR range. Not sure why anyone wants that.

My Cooler Master GM34-CW was terribly bad with this. Yeeted it off for the 38" Alienware with the GSync Ultimate module, and never ever looked back.

          • +1

@Evanlet: I have the dwf and it's lovely. Maybe freesync has gotten better?

I came from an Acer predator x34 which is a g-sync monitor and i honestly can't feel a difference with motion etc. Fricking HUGE upgrade colour and brightness wise though. Wow. All i can say.

          • @Evanlet: Then you just need to make sure it doesn't fall out of VRR range by using frame limiter and pair with a power enough GPU to deliver 50+fps? I used an Acer X34P G-Sync for 3 years then switch to the Samsung G8 Oled which uses freesync (same as the Alienware DWF) and all of my games look flawless on it. The Samsung also have a VRR toggle (separately from Adaptive Sync/freesync toggle) which can fix flicker issues with certain games.

Sounds like you had a particularly bad monitor, not really a universal freesync problem.

    • Doesn’t matter as the DW doesn’t really have anything wrong with it.

The DWF has problems and needs the updated firmware for HDR

      • I also read that DWF would be better if you connect it to console as it accepts a 4k signal.
4k signal downscaled to 1440p is sharper than 1440p signal to 1440p according to rtings.

For PC gaming only, I guess the cheaper model wins.

I've had mine for over a year now and It's fantastic. No signs of burn-in which is good, will have to see in a couple more years :)

    • Have the same experience. Will probably upgrade if they ever release a larger version though

    • +3

At $1500 they left me no choice but to pull the trigger!

      • +2

        Good idea.

    Pretty standard price, nothing special

  • I'm inclined to get LG c2 42 when it will be on sale. But recently I don't see the major retailers list it on their website. Does anyone know if they are stopping the sale of the c2 42?
I might get this if yes…

    • I bought 1 from VideoPro recently.

    • +2

I've been keeping an eye on LG C2 42 recently. But I noticed many retailers have been pulling it off their shelves. I emailed a retailer two days ago to inquire about this TV, and yesterday they removed it from their listings. Today they replied saying 42 C2 has been discontinued by LG. I believe it's because the new model C3 is now available, and LG has requested retailers to remove C2.

      • bummer! I returned my G3223Q for the C2. might have to look at seconds.

  • +5

Always tempted by this but ultimately for 80%+ productivity work the reviews say to give it a skip.

    • I'd agree. I bought it and i mainly do photo and video editing. 4 months in i have no burn in, but i can see like, a wearing pattern across the panel? Only when i do diagnostic tests, in normal use its flawless, but in hindsight i don't think this is the right tech for my use case.

I hate thinking that it's designed to 'wear out' and it's impossible to colour balance oled tech currently, so i have no idea if my photos are colour correct anymore.

Bloody beautiful picture though. It's very impressive! But i fully expect to have to return it within the 3yr warranty period. Burn in sucks.

      • Burn-in and unclear text, I'm holding out for the 2nd gen to solve the text issue at least

        • Not everyone can see the text issue. I don't, but yeah. Burn in. Very shit. I have a 5yr old oled TV that has zero burn in so… maybe it won't hit everyone???

          • @Sxio: Depends on use case. If you use a lot of desktop, like sessions greater than a couple hours long, multiple times a day, you will get burn-in.

            • @reactor-au: It's not that cut and dried. If you're also gaming or watching films for a few hours, that will decrease your chances.

              But yes.

  • Is OLED 175hz QHD really worth double the price over 4k 144hz IPS?

    • +2

      Yup.

    • -1

      no

    • Not for productivity.

    • -1

only for gaming. you'd best avoid it if you do alot of work on the monitor, burn in and Dell shit warranty issues

    • It is if you're sensitive to IPS issues. I've had an oled tv for a while and it got to the point where I really hated the non-blacks of my IPS monitor.

I hate the idea that my oled is constantly wearing out and will likely have burn in at some point, but i love the picture and colours. Best upgrade I've done in YEARS for me.

  • Is this good for Diablo Immortal? I'm a whale

Bought this over two weeks ago and still not shipped. Even though no indication about back order on the listing. Have few other orders also from JB Hi-Fi that are not shipped.

    • +1

Apparently in stock at Ipswich QLD, if other stores also have stock then it's still a deal and doesn't warrant the neg imo

      • +1

Neg isn’t for the deal but tactics of JB Hi-Fi. If you can get it in-store then good. But if you order for it to be shipped, then you may have to wait (which is not mentioned on their listing that it’s on back order). Also experienced same on few other items that I ordered to be shipped as they weren’t available locally.

    Need a 4k version

    • no man are you stupid you’re supposed to buy this one first then when the 4K version comes you buy the 4K version, this way you give dell twice the profit, stop being such a selfish guy geez

    • Maybe, wide screen is totally cool though. I really like the 21:9 widescreen look for gaming and productivity. 3440x1440 is also easier to drive for your gfx card than 4k, which is also a good thing.

Trust me, wide screen is pretty cool!

  • +1

    This or the neo g9?

  • +1

These are out of date….new gen 4k oled forget them at this price.

  • +1

I go this for about $1200 from Dell at one point, wait it out if not desperate

  • omg this is so cheap. Thanks OP

  • +1

QD OLED seems like an aberration that will collapse once smaller form factor MLA hit the market in the Spring.

    • +1

I picked up the 27” LG 240hz w-oled for $200 more than this on release. Rtings and hardware unboxed burn in on qd-oled turned me off.

      • How are you finding that LG? It seems pretty sweet

        • Yeah very happy with it. Only 1440p when I’ve been on 4K for a while now but it’s a worthy trade off for me. Very easy on the eyes and super crisp judder free gaming.

    • +2

QD-OLED’s colour brightness is still in a completely different league. MLA just pushes white even harder.

      • -1

The qd-oled does have better colour accuracy but who is going to use a gaming monitor for colour work? The magenta tint issue is also pretty awful https://youtu.be/Z-9FQ_2GBWQ

        • -1

Didn’t say accuracy buddy. Also the tint from the AR coating doesn’t impact the image in any significant way and is a non-issue in a dark room.

          • @tp0: Ok man if you say so!

  • +1

    Mujeebbbbbb

    • +3

      Yo b!tches

      • Lol. Glad you are here

  • Only wqhd not wide enough

  • For people debating DW vs DWF;

DWF HDR stuff works right now, but there are still some issues and another update is on the way soon according to dell.

    • hdr1000 mode eotf tracking is still broken according to HUB, but there are cope fixes for nvidia side. true black 400 is apparently fine on both sides. update incoming (take #2) which should hopefully fix it.

  • 1 year of use on mine, the windows taskbar had burnt into the bottom of the screen. Be aware that it happens.

    • +1

That's unfortunate. I've had mine for about 8 months and I exclusively use light mode, 10+ hours a day as I work on it and no visible burn-in on mine.

Get Dell to replace yours, maybe if you've had yours for a year, it's the older/original firmware that doesn't do the OLED Panel Refresh properly.

      • It does it properly as long as you leave it in Eco mode but people don’t like to leave it in Eco mode since it turns off the monitor after doing a maintenance cycle in the original firmware.

I complained about this issue and got an advanced replacement with the newer firmware.
