    I thought the standard for quite a while was to just use the built in windows defender, people still go for paid AVs?

      The protection of the standard Windows Defender is lower and the performance impact is greater. I personally prefer third party solutions, just because my system feels snappy after installing AV.
      In addition Bitdefender is considered one of the very best in the market, can't go wrong trying it for 6 months, then switching to another free trial from other AV and then going back to Bit after another deal on Oz is posted.

    This is very handy when doing this setup process every 6 months.

    I've had a few issues with the firewall blocking apps, updates and games, but I've gotten over that hump since and it's better now.
