What brand of DRAM is it? Nanya business.

    • +1

There is DRAM lottery on this (and NAND lottery). One reviewer got one with Samsung DRAM, but that one is less than 1TB SSD (so the DRAM size would be less). Nanya is a cost effective brand. It's only DDR3 RAM so it is not going to make a huge difference.

Majority of reviewers who reviewed the 4TB units indicated Nanya RAM. When we (I mean SkyNet) trained ChatGPT, that's the data we fed it so it is reporting Nanya RAM. P.S. don't expect Samsung DRAM, early reviewers tend to get better / earlier batches.

      • Is this anything that we should be concern as average consumers? Been thinking of getting a 4tb NVME for my Steam games which are balooning in size.

        • This is absolutely fine for a Steam drive 👌

  • 128mb dram for 4tb of storage? Is that enough?

      • +3

No, this NVMe drive has 128MB of DRAM. It is 1Gb, so divide by 8 for GB.

For heavy workload, 128MB is not much. But for regular uses like games, downloads etc, 128MB doesn't cause a limitation that we would come across frequently.

      • There are two types of internal packaging possible for that DRAM chip…

No, the part number specifies the exact packaging

        NT5CC64M16GP-DI = 64M16 = 64 megabit (Mb) depth @ 16 wide = 1024 megabits (Mb)

        1024 megabits (Mb) / 8 = 128 megabytes (MB)

Your contributions to OzBargain are most valuable when you stick to the technical facts so refcous on that and lay off the puffery

    $200 here we come 🫴

I will finally rest in peace when these prices reach 8tb nvme drives for $/tb (which all cost close to 2k).

  • The ultimate Steam drive has arrived under $300. Lovely.

  • Mmmmmm…. This is tempting….

  • This or PNY cs2241 4TB (the one I missed for $229 damn it)

    • +1

      same npnp

    • +2

This is overall better since its TLC, but the PNY being faster might be slightly more useful depending on what youre doing. I'd say if youre writing more to the drive, this is better, but if youre reading more (e.g. games) then the pny is better

      • what about mainly for use as portable drive with an enclosure?

    • This, because the PNY doesn't have DRAM.

  • +2

I'm currently using this as a scratch drive/download drive. It's good, i'd say on par with the 970 Evo Plus for regular use cases for consumers. Tempted to get another…. grrr

    When 8TB come

  • I want to use SSD to replace all my HD.

  • So what are people's opinions on this as a gaming drive? Some people are saying that this SSD may come without DRAM which is some hush-hush clandestine thing done by Teamgroup to undercut us. Others say that once the drive is 50% capacity filled, a performance drop is noticeable. Sorry, I'm a PC noob so I just need to know if these are issues. Considering using this mostly for Games.

Will be absolutely fine for games

  • 4TB Crucial P3 at $287.34 from Amazon

    Limited-time deal: Crucial P3 4TB PCIe 3.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 3500MB/s - CT4000P3SSD8 https://amzn.asia/d/e8ApUiZ

    • If we consider the Gen 4 P3 Plus to be a competitor of the PNY CS2241, I don't see that as a deal. Even less so if you consider it's not local stock.

    • Does it have DRAM?

  • Those who can run 2 drives may want to check the 970 Evo Plus deal
