@lancesta: Yeah it totally sounds like a scam that's why I didn't link it, so you could find it yourself haha.

          • @Bdawg: 0.2% just did some payments

          • @Bdawg: i did 8 from my gov, then go to goverment pay

      • thanks. I just did and it works. You can use multiple cards as well but there is a 0.20% fee

        • +1

$249.50 each card to use it up then. Seems lower fee than in the past, yay!

      • May I clarify this a bit? My employer has already paid the tax for me on the payslip. If I use these gift cards to make payments via ATO website, does that mean I will get a lot of tax refunds when lodging the tax return later?

        Thank you

        • +1

        • Is this illegal like money laundering?

          • @CommuterPolluter: I think its a bit of money laundering. I am not doing it for PAYG but for business tax, so I have a bill at least

        • Wait legit? That's awesome. I didn't realise that's how this worked.

Not that I'd want to but would it be a way of tossing money aside throughout the year for like a Christmas club account style thing but in August/whenever tax is returned once I get around to it.

        • +1

          can anyone else confirm this?

        • +1

Any ideas if because I’ll receive a positive tax return, if I increase my ATO income tax balance via this, will I receive this balance back in my tax return?

Or is it locked into the balance of my ATO account and can only be used to pay ATO debts?

Thanks in advance for the help

      • Hi all how long will it reflect on the account? i used govermenteasypay last night and it said process
but today the amount not into account. The gift card already showed 0 balance…
i have a few more card to pay but worried if the payment didn't go into the ato account

    • Yep rego, council fee, bills, buy other gift cards

      • +1

I don't think you can use these digital ones to pay rego,
there is no way to split pay your rego online $250 a time

        • +1

          Pay them quarterly

          • @amaneight: not worth it in VIC

A service fee of $2.50 applies for every 3 and 6 month registration renewal, unless you hold an eligible concession card.

            • +3

              @TanedaR: That’s $10 extra an year.
You’ll still be saving $52 if you pay quarterly with these gift cards

        • +1

If you pay in person at the post office they can process it. Did it last year.

          • +2

            @team teri:

            1. you can't use these digital ones in person, &
            2. can't split pay rego in post office in VIC, can do so in VIC roads but max 3 cards, so $250x3 + balance in cash.
            • +1

@TanedaR: Oops, it's late. Forgot about the 'digital', sorry.

            • +2

@TanedaR: You could use these digital prepaid gift cards in-person if you can find a merchant who will let you use MOTO mode to make an in-person payment. However, good luck finding a merchant who will let you do that.

              • +5

@WookieMonster: good luck spending hours trying to tell the cashier what MOTO mode is and he/she still doesn't understand. LOL

            • @TanedaR: You mean can use 3 cards in VIC Roads office in those buildings? but how to use it since it is digital, can it be used on ETFPOS?

              • @anxuanyu: In my above comment

                1. no you can't use these digital ones in person

and yes, You can use max 3 physical cards in VicRoads service centre.

  • +8

I'm guessing we can still pay ATO with these..
Heritage has blocked them on ATO but then unblock after raising a complaint with AFCA.

    • Can we use multiple cards to pay ATO though? Or just 1?

      • 5 per day on mygov and 5 per day at governmenteasypay

    • those physical cars work so these should be fine

  • -1

Can we use physical Coles Prepaid MasterCards to pay for these? 😏

I wonder whether these digital cards are susceptible to the same attacks that the physical cards are.

    • +1

      Infinite money hack

    • I think you can but only if you want one card.
      T&C says

      One order per customer

      • But ‘another’ customer can buy with your digital card. Keep it runnning

        • Not sure how quick they deliver it to your inbox.
If it's slow, it's probably already OOS by the time you receive it.

        • One order per customer

and ofcourse maximum $250 on one card, So Best you can do is keep buying a $250 mastercard with another $250 mastercard (being another customer)
(and then be left with like $27.XX or something like that on each $250 mastercard)

Is that really worth it you reckon ???

          • @USER DC: Just tried to buy another one with the card they gave me. "Transaction failed"

        • +3

I can buy with your card… msg me the details

          • @snickerz: I've messaged you my card details. Please let me know if it works and PayID me back. Thanks.

      • interestingly found this site belongs to Coles/Myer, so technically they might block paying by Coles MC (same as in store).

      • How do they distinguish customers as they don't have logins. So just a different payment method would work?

        • +1

When you check out it asks for your name, email and phone number. At a bare minimum I would say you’d need different email address but not sure if any OTP is sent to your mobile for validation.

  • +1

it suxs if you cant add them to a digital wallet? also i cant use it to pay rego online as it needs to be the full amount due which is over $250

    • Pay rego quarterly maybe

    • Use Beemit to BPay your rego?? I was able to with this deal, gift card from Activ Visa, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771958

      • +1

Beem has disabled their BPay functionality, if/when it comes back only debit cards will be accepted.

        • Ahhh yah kidding.. just bought the damn things

        • For real? I was getting cc rewards for paying my rent though them. Damn.

      • Can't add prepaid card into beem it.

This is the best and quickest 7.2% tax-free return on investment
    $232 => $250

    • +2

      7.48%

      • +2

        Math me

        • +7
          (250 - 231.30) / 250 = 0.0748 = 7.48%

          • -1

            @HomeAlone: (250*09+7) / 250 = 0.072 = 7.2%

They do not give us 10% off for card fee of $7 like coles instore offer.

            • +1

              @koakun:

They do not give us 10% off for card fee of $7 like coles instore offer.

              Yes they do!

It clearly shows a discount of $25.70 and the order total as $231.30

        • (250 - 257 x 0.9) / 250 x 100

      • My bad.. I picked up fees as $7 from the title instead of $6.3 from description

    • +5

Have to factor in the hassle to spend these. It's hard for expenses paid via direct debit and/or transactions > $250 (usually cannot do split payments on line).

    • +12

The denominator should be $231.30, because that is the amount you initially paid, ie. invested.

Then, your dollar profit or return is $250-$231.30 = $18.70

$18.70 return, from your initial investment of $231.30 = 8.08%

Using $250 as the denominator gives you your discount of which 7.48% is correct. (Or, it is the % loss if you invested $250 and got back $231.30)

The two are asymmetric, unless you use continuous compounding.

      • But the convention in shopping is always on the discount side

People would say I got …% off with this purchase, not I got …% return with my purchase

        • it was in response to the comment

Gonna stock up on these to pay for HECS. Too bad it’s gonna be after the indexation!

    • +1

Is it even worth it after 7% indexation

    • -1

it’s gonna be after the indexation!

How ?? that happens on 30 the of June or like 1st of July isnt it ??

      • 1st June right on 12 oclock

    • isnt that as of the 1st of june?

    • +1

Don’t use it for that now… might as well wait for next year.

Better off keeping that money in a savings account earning interest and paying it off mid May next year if you really wanna pay it off.

This website - better use amex edge or amex charge card to pay ?

  • Can these be used to pay off a credit card?

    • Buy something, then return it on the other credit card? (Probably helps if its a Mastercard).

If possible might credit my energy/gas and Optus acc n req refund

        • +1

In compliance with AML laws, almost all merchants and retailers will refund back onto the original payment methods.
So, you better hold onto the purchase emails with card details.

  • +2

I’m so confused where we can use this?

    • +1

If you look at the terms and conditions, it says it can only be used for card-not-present transactions where prepaid Mastercard gift cards are accepted.

In other words, the prepaid gift card in this deal is a basically a physical Coles Mastercard gift card with the magstripe missing.

      • Physical Coles Mastercard gift card with the magstripe missing

Even if you encoded the card info onto a blank physical a card with magstripe, I do not think they would still be accepted at a POS terminal.

      • +2

I don't know if those T&Cs can be trusted.

        Second paragraph:

The Card balance, transaction history and important notices about your Card are available at www.colesmastercard-balance.com.au

        https://ventraip.com.au/?a=add&query=colesmastercard-balance…

Great news, that domain name is available for registration!

      • +1

        Thanks Wookiemonster:)

      • Hey Woolies, do you think these would be less likely to be hacked than the physical ones? Or it’s the same by brute force

        • +2

I think it will just be as likely to be hacked as a physical gift card.

      • Hi @WookieMonster, can we use these digital cards to pay Centrelink debts? Thanks.

        • I really do not know.

I remember someone last year used a physical Coles Mastercard gift card to pay down a Centrelink debt, but apparently something went wrong. Not sure what happened in the end.

    • Add it to Paypal.

      • +5

Still won't prevent them from being hacked.
The first rule with these cards is do not park them for too long.

        • +3

Yea, I’m just buying one for this reason. Got some small bills to use now, I’m not risking buying a few of these after my last cards got hacked.

        • crap just bought some, I forgot about the whole hacking issue, is that still going on?

          • +1

@lonewolf: Sure is. Better spend them quick before the hackers get to them.
