Who's keen for the new Flip 5?

    • +1

Does it have a 3.5mm headphone jack?

      • -2

        And no removable battery!

      • +1

it will have the old charging port which can be used with old nokia phone chargers

    • -8

Does it use a standard sim card non of that micro/nano bs?

      • +2

it won't even have a microSD slot anymore lol
source: S22, S23 all with no microSD slot

        • +5

I don't know why I got negged. Newer phones have regressed.

          • +1

            @Guybrush57: You need Sony ones

            • @solacens: Where to buy them in Australia though? I was thinking of the ASUS ROG 7 Ultimate but even JB Hi-Fi aren't stocking them this year.

        • it seems even the flip 4 doesnt have it

      • -1

Why are we getting negged? I thought we're listing features that we liked but companies removed them from the phones anyway.
I guess people are still sentimental about the headphones jacks. Maybe give it a few more years and then whoever mentions headphones jack will get negged too!

        • +3

I mean I can at least understand why a 3.5mm jack would be a wanted feature, but a full-sized SIM card? I genuinely can't think of any reason those should even exist anymore.

          • -2

@ngengerous: Maybe he finds the bigger SIM card easier to hold and to put it in and out of the phone. Instead of playing a puzzle, having to put the nano SIM onto a little tray and sliding it into the phone ensuring it goes in properly.

            • -1

@Secret ID: how often would they be replacing the sim for that to be an issue?

              • @Creamy: Please note, my previous comment started with "maybe", I was just speculating and allowing someone to have/share their opinion, without imposing on them something that I subjectively deem reasonable or useful. If the person wants a phone with the full size sim card, he can ask for it.
Regarding the frequency of it to be an issue, @thesmartone1125 would need to confirm if the above speculation is valid. Otherwise no point discussing it further.

  • +1

Picked this up for half that price recently

    • Same, imagine paying double 😂

    • mind if i ask what you're positive and negative opinions on the flip 4?

      • +1

Love mine, had the Motorola Razr before although was a good phone regretted leaving the Samsung Ecosystem the UI is just so far ahead of Motorola….All these people that worry about the phone not lasting I had the Motorola for 3 years the inside screen was still perfect, sold it because I dropped it and cracked outside screen. But going back to a phone that fits in your pocket, easier to carry is the best……I wouldn't mind the Fold but see so many for sale with cracked outer screens….

    • Which half of the phone did you get

  • +4

Samsung brings out the neggers 🤣

    • +7

      the what

    • -4

      i*

    • +1

Autocorrect had one job to do!

    • +2

Apple will show us all how to do a foldable phone eventually. Maybe it'll have a Dynamic Peninsula.

  • $899 is still higher

  • +1

Not trolling but aren’t these a bit of a gimmick? That crease would get annoying

    • +3

Not really. I got one from the previous deal for just under $500 and the crease annoys me 0% of the time.

    • +1

I rarely notice the crease, except when need to touch the center of the screen, and its rare to happen. Mine is 2,5 years z flip3.

    • I felt the same but the crease isn't noticeable on use. Only on a black screen so the crease doesn't actually stand out that much most of the time.

    • +1

The crease isn't noticeable. Yes they are a gimmick. I got it under the last deal for like $200 bucks, and I'd probably pay up to $700 for it at most. After that there's better options for the price. Those options won't be folding, but the folding doesn't add that much value anyway

    • +1

It helps a lot with storage. i.e. It fits in pockets that a normal phone wouldn't.
Can be placed in a bag with other objects and you know the screen won't get damaged/scratched.
I put mine in a sling around my waist when I go running when normally one wouldn't fit.
And it is almost impossible to pocket dial someone.

      • Good point about the accidental pocket dialling…
This was happening to me on my old S21+ with the [ emergency call ] shortcut on the lockscreen. I was calling 000 at least twice a day due to the screen activating in my pocket and somehow bumping the emergency callout. It shows up below the onscreen numberpad when you have a pin set. Could not remove the emergency option from lockscreen, the Flip4 fixed that crap completely.

Why on earth is there no option to remove emergency dial from the frikken lockscreen…

    • +1

You only really notice the crease when the phone is not lit up. Go have a play in one of the stores and you will see what I mean.

  • How much were these a few months ago? Like $1500?

  • I think there's a market for foldables, but I don't know if the tech is there yet. Bought Mum a Fold3 and she used it for a year and a half. Never took it out of the case, never dropped it, never unfolded it too far, but it developed a weird issue where the middle (where it folds) began to lift, and then one side became unresponsive. She had to use it folded until we got it repaired under warranty (had to send it off after wiping the device).

    • ….that's sorta why they released the revised 4 and about the release the further revised 5.

  • Got mine from the jb deal and have been very happy with it huge upgrade from the s21 fe I previously had.

    • +1

In what way was it an upgrade? I have the same s21 fe.

      • +2

Bigger screen, higher resolution, extra screen, 2GB more ram, FE has better camera resolution but will only do 4k video vs 8k video on Flip. Quicker processor and more….And it's more compact….

      • +1

For me snapdragon over exynos is the biggest upgrade, runs smoother/faster, no overheating issue which i previously had and despite smaller battery its actually lasting me much longer throughout the day. Other things that I could be more nit picky about is that it just feels like a more premium phone and better build quality compared to the 21 fe which was very plasticky. But for me the trade in was practically free so it was a no brainer, I would not fork out more money to trade it in though the 21 fe was just as good a phone.

  • +1

    Have one. Works very well.

Wouldn't buy again though. Fordable is nice but it is a HEAVY device.

Also, the base screen protection that comes on the phone is starting to unpeel in the crease area

    • +1

Same here with Fold3, it's a couple of months out of warranty and the screen protector started to peel off.
Tried Samsung support but no luck. Will keep it for now and trade-in when there's $500 JB or Samsung trade-in bonus offer.

  • +2

If under 12 months free at samsung centre. Hope this helps Screen Protector Replacement $49 https://www.cityphones.com.au/samsung-galaxy-z-flip4-repair/

  • +1

Too high for it still for a concept phone, they need to address the crease, battery, camera, and durability after a year, Flip 5 might be the one. $600 is about right.

  • showing $1,148.00, is there a code of discount to add?
