  • Really want an iPad primarily for streaming movies/tv shows but want that sweet 120hz which is only in iPad Pro. Worth waiting for a Pro to go on sale?

    • +6

Just for streaming or planning on playing high refresh rate games on it? If just for streaming, definitely not worth it!

    • +1

      I would wait

    • +1

Nope, definitely get this. Only concern is only 64GB

    • +7

TV shows and movies are 24fps/hz, so there's no benefit to 120. Though 120 is equally divisible by 24, so maybe streaming would look better on iPad Pro. If standard iPad Liquid Retina display doesn't do 24hz then it'll perform a telecine process to repeat certain frames to make it look correct at 60hz and you probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. iPad Pro is about due for a big update so maybe get this iPad now and save for the new Pro next year, might even get OLED next year then you'd have buyer's remorse if you bought the current one.

    • +1

why not just get a used or referb iPad Pro 2nd Gen (2020). Has 120hz and never feels like needing more power, will keep mine for a while

  • +11

So close to pulling the pin.. EOFY sales are coming.. decisions and divorce court could be on the radar…

    • +3

Hopefully stocked up on Coles mastercards for the legal fees

      • +2

Armani: can i pay you in coles mastercards?
Divorce lawyer: you had me at pay

    • +1

Mate, sounds like you got bigger problems coming. Good luck.

  • Friend of a friend just said that 64 GB is not enough.

    • I did say that, on a previous deal. People thought disagreed with me. And said it's sufficient for kids at school. So here I am posting.

      • +5

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/779331

64GB is plenty for a media consumption device which is what my iPad Pro has become.

        • +3

Damn, that's a lot of hardware for media consumption.

          • @GregRust: I want an iPad mini, but makes no sense to trade into one.

        • +2

An M series? That is overkill indeed.

For consumption only I would go the base iPad tbh.

This Air is what you get for work/uni if you can’t afford an IPP. Although I would want the 256gb Air, which sorta negates that.

    • +1

64GB is never enough now days 128 GB is the new standard

      • Are you one of those who takes videos with their iPad?

        • Nope just games

    • was that for the cellular or wifi model?

    • Its enough. Plus it has typec so u can run a hdd

    • +1

Well, I just looked at this 256Gb IPP I use as my main machine at home.
But it is used for a lot of work GIS based mapping and reporting, CAD viewing and annotation, forms, note taking (OneNote), emails, letter writing, and editing documents, either in Word or annotating pdfs. Web browsing of course.

For private use it is used for reading online newspapers, personal emails, or viewing on any one of numerous streaming services, blogs and ozbargain.
      I haven’t downloaded a tonne of games.
Everything content wise, including maps, documents, video, photos and music tends to be on the cloud. I might download maps, CAD designs and layers if in the field where mobile service may be spotty.

      I have used 49GB.

I do have 64 GB iPhone 12 mini and have about 30 GB of downloaded music on it, and i of course use it for video a lot more than the IPP. It often struggles with 64 GB.

  • Don't do it… 64GB is not enough, you can't do much with it.

    • +1

I disagree. I have one of these and if your primary purpose is to watch movies and TV shows (I use Jellyfin), it's absolutely awesome

      • Like I said not much you can do with it besides steaming videos. 64GB is not enough for gaming or productivity.

        • +1

You didn't say anything about streaming. Depends on how many games you play, but sure. As for productivity, why not? Most of my docs would be in cloud storage, or just use an external drive (cheaper than upgrading to higher GB)

          • -2

@reloxation: I said can't do much meaning it's limited as to what it can do.

Yes, you have to be connected to the cloud and carry an external drive around… Or pay extra $174 for 256GB for the convenience and versailtility. I'm not here to argue with you, just stating the obvious and a major issue people need to consider when purchasing a device with limited storage.

            • @JajaMinx: Fair points! Depends on the user for sure, and if you're willing to pay $174 extra for what could be considered as convenience rather than using external storage.

  • +3

    60hz LCD and 64GB :(

    • Why make incremental product improvements year on year when you can just sell the same thing and people will buy it.

Even if you make your products unrepairable, people won't care

      💵

  • This is a really good price. Comparable to AOC store + those 15% off gift cards from a while back (which was $710)

  • +1 for ATL, buy the dip

  • +2

    Even 128gb isn’t enough for me 😭
    Nonetheless good deal OP

    • Get icloud storage?

      • @nightelves I already do, 2TB plan through Turkey ;)

  • is 10.9 inches enough??

    • +2

Ask your gf or wife 😉

      • or mistress

        • or your "mate"

  • +2

I bought a 256gb one ($1050) because others said 64gb wasn't enough. That one no longer turned on so got refunded. I bought the 64gb one after ($880) and had no issue with the smaller storage. $749 is seriously cheap, especially as the prices I stated were before Apple rose prices because of inflation.

I actually owned a 256gb ipad 9 prior (gave it to a family member), honestly regret not getting the 64gb one as I didn't exceed 64gb on that one - could've saved $229.

If you are concerned about photos or not having enough storage to back up your device, you can buy from icloud 50gb for $1.49 monthly (which I did) or 200gb for $4.49 monthly.

    • -1

I also had an iPad Pro that stopped turning on. Appears to be a common problem. iPads are f'ing garbage products.

      • +1

Ironically, I did charge that ipad with a Heymix "GAN" charger. It first fried my battery bank and produced a horrid plastic smell. Therefore, I suspect the charger caused the ipad's demise or it was just a defective ipad.

  • OOS I think

  • Took too long to decide. Missed out :(

  • Anyone looking forward to wwdc23 tmr especially those ar goggles?

  • +1

Drove to officeworks then saw it’s OOS :(

    • All the more reason to get the Pro.

    • Imagine living next door to an officeworks, they probably just refuse to price match after scoring so many deals

  • Hey someone who owns one of these can they tell me its dimensions in cm ??

Cannot seem to trust amazon listings for a screen protector

    • 10.9

      • dimensions in cm, (A length x B width)

        Not diagonal specs in inches

        If it is infact
        "Height
        247.6 mm
        Width
        178.5 mm"

then I know one listing that says wrong specs (you could claim refund on the wrong specs)

  • My wife has one of these and they really are great devices. The only issue is that you'll never go back to a regular iPad again as the Air makes the base model feel very cheap.

    • Laminated display makes a HUGE difference especially when used with an Apply pencil.

      • The screen, build quality, cameras and general feel of the device is poles apart from the regular iPad.
