CommBank Low Fee Credit Card: $250 Cashback with $1000 Spend within 90 Days, $0 1st Year Fee (Save $29), New Cardholder

1630

Looks like Commbank has rearranged their credit card line up. They've canned the Low Fee Gold and now offer just the Low Fee card. This time last year the card was $300 cashback for $1500 spend (20%). Now it's $250 for $1000 spend (25%).

  • $0 annual fee for the first year and every subsequent year if you spend at least $1,000 in the previous year
  • changing to $0 monthly fee when you spend $300 per month from 25 August 2023

Offer available on new Low Fee credit cards applied for between 3 Jun 2023 and 30 Sep 2023. Offer not available on all other card types, existing cards, and switches from other card types and is not available to customers who currently hold, or have held, any activated Low Fee or Low Rate card types in the 12 months prior as a primary cardholder.

To be eligible for the $250 cashback on a new Low Fee card, you need to spend at least $1,000 on purchases (not including balance transfers and cash advances) using your new card within 90 days of activation. Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria and will appear on your statement as ‘CASHBACK $250’.

      • OK, some may choose to keep it as the current annual spend criteria is pretty low.

  • Would paying off Zip or Afterpay count for the minimum spend?

    • There website should answer that question.

    • Like to know this too…

First statement and no cashback. CBA have become useless at paying up. I’m guessing they will wait until the 89th day. Makes me determined to churn them every time and get everyone I know to do it.

    • Same, please update us on how you go

      • They have previously paid up 2 odd business days since spending reached but last time took legit 70 odd days. Annoying. Still nothing.

      • @smako69

        $250 stimulus injection received today.

        • 75 days since meeting the requirement?

  • Trying to apply, it just says

    Sorry!

edit: doesn't work in FF, works in Chrome. bleh.. shit site.

  • How often do statements come out? I've met the spend requirement but can't pay back the balance until I get a statement with the BPAY information. No cashback yet.

    • +3

BPAY biller code is 1818, reference is your card number.

        Champion, thanks.

  • Applied on the 30th June uploaded payslips, haven't heard anything. Applied for a virgin credit card on 2nd July and approved on the 3rd.

    CBA are slow.

  • would paying rates or other bills be counted as spending?

  • What's the best way to get the cashback off the card? Bit confused whether I'll incur a cash advance fee from transferring the cashback between accounts

    • Close the account, they'll have to refund it to you.
That's probably what I'll do since this card isn't a keeper.

    • Have you already received the cashback on your card?

    • Defs do get charged a cash advance fee when withdrawing. Could always just spend $250 of ‘free money’ until the card goes back to 0 balance (from in credit).

      • or close the a/c and get a refund.

        • You sure it allows you to do that? I’m assuming you mean after you’ve gotten the cash back, correct?

          • +2

            @Bigboy97: definitely after the cashback.
If you close a credit card and it has a positive balance, they must return it to you.

eg from St George, couldn't find anything in 2 secs for cba

If you have a positive balance, your request to close the credit card account will be processed immediately subject to the application of any accrued interest, fees, outstanding authorised transactions and charges. Any refund due will be processed once these have been applied

  • I closed my previous commbank low fee gold credit card on 16/7/2022.
Am I eligible to apply again on 16/7/2023, or just wait and apply in August?

  • So I'm after this card to try and snag a somewhat decent price on a GPU over the next few months, but I'm guessing with the language if I apply now and haven't purchased anything from the 25th August that I'll start to be charged the $3 fee? Not the end of the world, just a little confusing the language they use with saying there's no fee for the first year but not sure if that means if we apply before the 25th August the card can be used for a year 'fee free' until the $3/month charge kicks in.

In the end it's not really that much in the grand scheme of things, but could be sitting with the card for a couple of months waiting for a decent deal to pop up.

  • Do we have to pay off the credit card purchase to be eligible?

  • Reached the spend criteria as well in first statement period and didnt get any cashback

  • Well gave up on applying for this card.

From the extremely limited amount of professions you can enter yourself as (they have politician but not just a simple ‘other’ category?!) along with verifying my ID online through the app, then saying I needed to verify it in a breach or could it in the app.. just after I’d done it. Then to logging into the app again and it opening another prompt to say my card (?) was on its way when I haven’t applied for any card yet?

Went to then cancel the application and they had a text box for feedback but couldn’t use any special characters at all. What is this 1992?

Honestly couldn’t help but laugh at just how ridiculous their flaws are for the most basic things for the biggest (?) bank in Australia.

  • Has anyone received the cashback yet? I have cleared one billing cycle and still no cashback.

  • +1

Applied online, submitted all the required documents, now they want me to go into a branch with all the same documents! How ridiculous

    • Possible to share if you already are CBA customer with existing accounts?

Agree still ridiculous process if they allowed submitting online applications in the first place.
But even more ridiculous if you're already a customer needing in-branch verifications.

      • +1

New customer. But why provide all that info plus ID during the application if they’re just going to make me go into branch anyway?

  • +1

    Just got my credit

    • Same.

      Applied: ~Jun 5
      Spent: Jun 16
      Statement: Jun 26
      Cashback: Jul 20

  • Also got my credit yesterday (20 July). My statement was issued 13 July so for those waiting for their cashback, it looks like it's one week after statement issue that you get it in your account.

  • Got my credit as well!

  • Got my cash back! Finally!!

  • Got my credit yesterday (20 July).

    • You might need to check the calendar

  • +1

Got my cash back last week, took about 21 or so days after meeting spending criteria.

  • I met the spend awhile ago but haven't had a statement yet. No cashback for me yet.

  • Got my credit, now thinking of closing this account soon

What's the last date before they introduce monthly charge on it ??

    • OP says Aug 25
How long after your statement did you get the credit? My first statement is due Aug 4 I think.

      • about 7-15 days after statement I think

        • As soon as I get it I'm cancelling it.

  • Just applied.
Pay car rego and buy takeaway lunch one day and there'sy $1000 spend.
$250 cashback and then cancel card

Now looking to apply for a good rewards/FF card for some big expenses expecting coming up

  • Can you apply for low fee card (this deal), get the $250, and also apply for the ultimate card from this deal below:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/779100
and get the 70,000 QFF points?

  • Anyone know if having the Low Fee Gold in the past 12 months make me ineligible for this deal? I can't see any mention of it in the T&Cs.

    • Not eligible - Offer not available on all other card types, existing cards, and switches from other card types and is not available to customers who currently hold, or have held, any activated Low Fee or Low Rate card types in the 12 months prior as a primary cardholder

  • Previous cba low fee gold was closed on 16/7/2022.
Applied for this one 2/8/2023, got the card 9/8/2023, min spend reached 16/8/2023, cashback received 24/8/2023. Gonna close the card today before first statement.

    • I had a very similar experience to you. I hit the spend 2 days axtivating the card. Received cashback today.

I am yet to receive my 1st statement.

Looks like might do cashback in batches.
