Echo Dot (3rd Gen) smart speaker with Alexa $29

I have one of these and will probably buy another. Remarkably good sound for the price and size.

It has Bluetooth and a 3.5inch aux socket so it’s pretty versatile.

Update (thanks to sharkfan12)
$25 at Office Works and Bunnings if that is convenient

Thanks, I updated deal and will probably buy there.

      • No problem. Lazy people like me will still pay the extra $4 for delivery lol. :)

What it has is 3.5mm out instead of in, which means it is useless (it does not work as a wired speaker)

    • +2

It makes wired speakers have the same wireless capabilities as it

      • -3

Yes but most people wants 3.5mm in. Silly that it is out.

        • +1

Why does it has need a 3.5mm for?

        • It can function as a line in OR a line out, you can choose which one in the Alexa app

          • @Stooge007: is it possible to just connect via blutooth 2 units for stereo sound?

    • +3

in is good, but out might be way better. these things already stream online and bluetooth, and 3.5 out means that you can plug them into whatever speakers you were already using a few years ago, or your aldi soundbar, or even your dads vintage bookshelf stereo, and upgrade those old systems AND this cheapo unit at the same time

these are great and convenient (I have 3 or 4 strewn about) but they dont sound good enough on their own to stress the loss of sounds that you arent playing off your phone or similar. if you were wanting something to hook up to the tv or whatever, you'd be better off doing the rounds at the next council cleanup for any old non-bluetooth speakers, theyll all have a line in

  • Even better with two in stereo.

  • +1

We use two in stereo linked to fire TV for audio. Great for bedroom tv so audio comes from right next to you so can be a lot softer and not wake the kids.

  • I have 3 in the small bedroom (10+19+19=$48), good for surround sound white noise for sleeping. Can’t wait until Amazon prices them at $9

    • How do you use it for white noise? Do you just leave your phone in there playing?

im still using SD card speakers! on repeat for white noise

      • I exactly tell Alexa “Play brown noise on bedroom (its what I named the group of 3 echo dots) for 30 minutes”

  • I like good audio and while these of course don't sound like any decent hifi system, they sound as good as any $200 Bluetooth speaker I've heard and as good as some sound bars.

So certainly worth it even for a cheap Bluetooth speaker.

    • Was thinking of buying as a Bluetooth speaker. You can get the rechargeable battery bases on Ali for ~$35
