  • bought one in ballarat to replace a Tom Tom one xl with out of date maps. I went through the online map redemption but my unit doesn't have a serial number on the back like the one in the example pic hopefully it goes through.

Serial is on the bottom. Under where it says Nuvi 50.

Just picked one up, thanks for the heads up. Buying to replace a Tom Tom with out of date maps :)

Bit strange that no USB cable supplied in the box - lucky I have a few mini USB cables lying around!

    • Buying to replace a Tom Tom with out of date maps :)

Me too. When it's cheaper to buy a whole new GPS unit with lifetime maps, instead of a single map update for a TomTom unit, something is wrong.

      Wake up TomTom!

  • does any other places have stock to pricematch? ie DSE or GoodGuys?
    cbf drivin to JB
    cheers!

  • Are these fairly reliable or should I fork out for extended warranty?

  • Thanks for the post dfitzy. Grabbed one first thing this morning. Updated maps, addded a few cars, grabbed another couple of 'aussie' languages from the Garmin dashboard and all is well.

Hopefully thats the end of the in-car domestics with the misses (after getting us lost). Next time I guess I'll be blaming 'Karen', the GPS girl!!!

  • does anyone know to to activate the speed limit alert. like when i go over the limit it beeps to warn me

    • -4

      Don't drive over the limit?

      • its for my dad. i brought the gps thinking it would do that. any way i could set it

        • Did you work out how to do it hungho? I was trying to figure that out too.

      • That's the point. He doesn't want to. Hence him wanting the beep.

    • If you want to test it without speeding, try going through a school zone. I haven't tested it with Garmin, they may be a bit smarter by checking if it's in the normal 'school zone time', but my navman would ALWAYS freaking beep when I was in or near one 24/7.

But good way to test if it's beep cause it would do so at normal legal speeds (as long as it's outside school zone times)

The Garmin just shows up the speed you are doing in RED when it thinks you are over the limit. It is not an audible speed alert device.

    • I have only seen this feature on the 2360. Turns red and beeps.

  • Just picked one up.
    Thanks

  • Great device, esp for 88 bucks, picked one up earlier. Thanks OP.

  • This is what I was waiting for! Ordered one, thanks!!

  • bought one, thanks poster

  • hi guys,
I'm looking at buying a GPS for the US.
I am happy to use my phone maps when in Australia.
Is it possible to get this deal with the actual US maps loaded on the device or do I have to buy them separately?

    • +1

If you want the US Navteq maps, then you'll have to pay (usually cheaper to buy a unit in the US than to buy US maps separately. Otherwise you can use the OpenStreetMap maps, which can be easily gotten from http://downloads.cloudmade.com/, or you can build your own .img from the latest .osm maps.

  • i just bought one to give as a gift, if i register for the free maps with my email address would i be able to change it so the person i give it to can update it with their email address?

  • Anyone know when the deal will expire?

  • I ordered yesterday lunch time and chose free delivery. It arrived first thing this morning - very efficient.

  • anybody knows whether it is better than Garmin 1450T?

  • picked one up at garbo….bout 6 left in bin

  • I got one from greensborough, vic. There was about 10 left, they are near the counter where all the tvs are.

  • Pretty good for the price… bought to replace my old TomTom one… that I bought 6 years ago for $600!!!
Impressed with what they can do for less than $100… on the paper the resolution is low, but it's quite readable, the screen has a good contrast and overall the unit is responsive and easy to use!
Cheers for sharing this one :)

  • Is there anybody knows how to update the safety camera once the first month trial expires. Thanks

  • Is this better than Nuvi 2350 that is on sale at Dick Smith for $50??

    • Personally I think that the $38 difference is worthwhile just for the lifetime map updates, you will not get this on 2350 model.

  • Does anyone know if this has an av in for reverse camera - I need a 5" gps with reverse camera input - appreciate any help.

  • Just bought it from JB. A decent piece of GPS device, no fancy and no frills for that kind of price.

  • +1

Just a reminder that you need to register before 15th October to get the free lifetime maps. Valid for all Nuvi 40 and 50 purchases between 1st August and 30 September.

    Register here.

Once this is received your entry will be validated and your Lifetime Map Update code will be emailed to you within 8 weeks.

DSE have a Navman 5" case for $10 atm:

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/D6598/navman-protective-carr…

    It fits the MY75T, which is 142.5 x 88.5 x 17.4 mm…the Garmin is 140 x 86 x 18mm, so should be fine.

    This $10 HDD case might work too (internal dimensions: 152 x 95 x 31mm):

  • Repco have $49 MY30T branded Nav for only $49, if you spend $50 in store. Hurry, it ends tomorrow I think. It is only $75 without the conditional spend. Definitely the best value Nav on the market anywhere. 3.5 inch, free maps three years and safety alerts. Everything you need for the price of a hard copy manual!

    • It's a good deal. After a few years on a 3.5" TomTom, happy to step up to a widescreen 4.3". I think this is a useful upgrade, while the 5" is just the same resolution as the 4.3" but with larger pixels. Stopped looking at Navman as they don't support Macs while both TomTom and Garmin do.

  • Just got my email with lifetime redemption code :D

    • That was quick! Considering they said 8 week turnaround…nice
