HTC ChaCha (Unlocked) - $98 at EB Games

40

I just saw this on the EB Games website, and thought that it was a reasonable price for the device. It is not a huge bargain, though I have used the device before, and it is better than you would expect it to be for that price. It is the type of mobile that I would give to my child as their first mobile.. if I was a father, lol.

Unlocked
2G Network: 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100

    • Except no one ever ended up getting any since they were out of stock.

      Hardly a bargain.

      • Nikko was a lucky one to get it. Most stores didn't have it and the few that did kept it quiet

      • so if we listen to sulmarNOT A SINGLE PERSON GOT ONE FROM BIG W FOR $29!

am i some kind of anomaly then? cause i got one for $29 and was able to unlock it free…

this is a pretty good price for it knowing that it is definitely unlocked… but saying that the Big W post was HARDLY A BARGAIN is wrong.

Also, if its important that you specifically need any of the 3G bandwidths, check before you buy if possible. The ones that Big W sold (voda stock) were only 850/2100… not tri-band like EB states here. GSM Arena only shows a 900/2100 version. So yeah, check before you buy if that is important to you…

        • Alright bud, most people weren't able to grab one. It was VERY limited stock.

hence why the price was so low, cause they were clearing old stock.

the lesson here is don't generalize; a handful of people got a sick price on that phone and you say its hardly a bargain because not EVERYONE could get it? just be happy for the people that did…

          I got one as well @ $29

          Me too, got 2

    • If a nearby store had stock and you were with Vodafone, then yes, that would obviously be a better bargain.

      • the ones Big W sold at $29 were unlockable free… at least the one i grabbed was :P
this is a good buy though for the price at the current point in time and you know that it is unlocked as compared to the Big W ones where it was somewhat 50-50

      • Is your phone triband 3G? I'm fairly sure they are either 850/2100 or 900/2100. As Chux mentioned before check this with EB, you don't want to end up with a dud.

$99 for a HTC Explorer is a better deal and you can buy it at many woolworths stores.

      how is the explorer better?
      check out a comparison here

      • they're both quite similar in specs, except for the camera, with which the ChaCha comes out ahead.

the rest is just personal preference i.e. full touch screen vs physical keyboard

      • for one, explorer is more like a proper smart phone since it has a 3.2 inch screen. Cha Cha is more like a qwerty phone as the tiny screen is not practical enough to enjoy the full touch screen experiences.

  • Woolworth's have the Samsung Galaxy 5 for $49.50.
    Telstra locked.
