a word of warning: if you use them on the road you might get fined

  • +13

    Illegal. Negative.

      But they are fully sick.

    • Serious? Illegal for all vehicles on the road?

      • something about dazzling other drivers as i recall

      • +2

Yes. However, not illegal to own or buy, or use on a show car for example.

    • it wouldn't be illegal for bicycles right?

i have some on my bike when i ride at night - not speaking from a legal POV but obviously this greatly increases your visibility (and it lights up the road at your feet…but you should look forward not down).

they would have to be the most bored, *nal police officer to pull you over (YOU'RE ON A BICYCLE) if this is illegal. honestly if you have these on your bike and NO OTHER LIGHTS, they are more effective than the little flashing LEDs that are so common. my perspective.

        • oh well thats fine then, because I have never ever come across a bored *nal police officer! :)

They would be illegal for bicycles.

Bicycles are subject to the same road rules as cars, as much as bicycle riders seem to be unaware of this fact.

Nice try, taking a stab at cyclists. Surely i can find you in the comments sections of the SMH whenever there's an article relating to cycling?

All i'm saying is that even if it's illegal on a bicycle, having them on a bicycle can only benefit both the rider AND drivers. Have some common sense.

I drive and cycle and i would much rather see these on a cyclist than any other light.

      • last week, i rode past a cop car with 2 cops inside. i wasn't pulled over, but i may not have been seen. but then again, i did have the bright led caps, so i must have been seen! so, even if it is illegal, it might be something that some cops are not aware of or just not bothered with.

i got some for my kids bikes. but thinking about it now…..they never ride their bikes at night.

  • It's legal to display red but illegal for any blue lighting.

I heard if you say YOLO when they pull you over they let you off with a warning.

    • it's true

        even for murder?

i suppose you could stick them on fans when summer rolls around and enjoy a 'cool' night show :)

    • +12

even more fun when they come loose and fly off in a random direction :)

I wonder how well this would work as frisbee?

I looked at getting some for the mrs's car a few years back (in Perth) when I was doing her under-car neons. I went into the licensing "pits" and spoke to a generally helpful guy about what you can and can't do (again, in WA). He said "flashing" lights were a no go, but constant lights were ok. I do recall some sort of limitation on colour, but remember blue was ok. The "flashing" and colour restriction was something to do with emergency vehicles and you couldn't have anything that might make other cars think you were an emergency vehicle … or something. He printed me off the relevant sections of law and it all checked out, and he said to keep the print out in the car in case the cops did pull her over at some point. I bet that would really help in the situation when a bored cop has pulled you over!

Now, most of this conversation was directed at the under-car lighting, but it was my understanding that it would apply to both. Either way, it is a grey area, and if you don't want to attract undue attention, might just be better to err on the side of caution ;)

Side note: I went ahead with the under car neons (blue), but not the tyre lights, and she has never had a problem as far as I'm aware (we went our separate ways a few years back).

    Just my 2c!

      i'm sorry to hear that…

  • Bugger, out of stock…

  • Attach them to your nipples and wear a white shirt over them at night. Stand out.

  • Yes these would be against the law in most states due to the colour.
