Split payment is easy at coles worth self checkout. Otherwise I use post bill pay to use odd balances.

    • The alternative if you have no bills to pay or no grocery to buy from coles/woolies (being a spoilt kid living with parents like I was) is to buy Amazon gift card which can be down to $1

  • @ozbargainerlife1
Maybe the marketing guys @ Woolies worked @ Subw/ or Macca3

  • -7

My local Coles only had the $100 cards, couldn't see any $250. But stashed a few for Wednesday anyway.

    • pets section or icecream

      • Health section under the dried fruit and also under the Dettol wipes in the cleaning section.

Will need a refill after using these to pay the ATO.

  • +1

Wow wasn't expecting one so soon especially after the online deal recently!

    • mustve been so popular and OOS early

    • +22

I think they just always run a promotion on Mastercard gift cards at this time of year.

      • 14/6/2023 - 10% off

      • 15/6/2022 - 10% off

      • 16/6/2021 - 10% off

      • 10/6/2020 - 2,000 points

A similar pattern can be observed in March as well:

      • 15/3/2023 - 2,000 points

      • 16/3/2022 - 2,000 points

      • 17/3/2021 - 2,000 points

      • 18/3/2020 - 2,000 points

      • +1

Thanks OP. Marked my calendar for 2024 😂

      • Thanks VantageXL, so the next quarterly promotion will be in September and December? I'll wait then.

        • +2

Looking at the historical data a bit closer, I believe the next most likely date for a 10% off Mastercard gift cards promotion is 18 October 2023. The bonus points promotions on Mastercard gift cards are more common so there will almost certainly be some of those between now and then (perhaps one will be on 9 August 2023?).

All of this is purely a guess, though. They've been doing weird things with these promotions this year so I wouldn't be at all surprised if none of my predictions materialise.

  • +2

So the last instore deal screwed up my monthly spend $50 get 10,000 points deals. Do you guys use a burner flybuys card or what?

    • +1

No, I just shop at Woolies for a few weeks! 🤣

    • Same here. Wasn't the case previously.

  • Are we able to purchase gift cards from other stores with these? Want to buy Apple Gift Cards from woolies.

    • +1

Yes, you can. I bought apple GC with these from Big W last time.

        • Do they sell like $15.75 gift card?

Need to put in super. Perfect timing

    • +3

      how to put into super?

      • My super fund stopped accepting credit cards a year or so back :(

    • Wtf, this is possible?

      • Personal concessional contribution.

        • But how do you BPAY into super using a gift card? I know I can BPAY via my bank account.

          • @Ghost47: Some BPAYs allow card payment method. Some BPAYs strictly enforce bank payment.

            • @nsingh21: Hmm ok. Might give my super fund a call and find out if there's a way to do it via card.

      • +1

Somebody reported in the digital gifted thread that they could do it via Sniip. Hadn't worked for me with Hostplus in the past.

        • Interesting. Wondering if Beem would work? I don't really know anything about these payment apps. Might do some research.

          • @Ghost47: That's IF you can get your hands on these invisible cards on the shelves

            • @nsingh21: I commented earlier that I visited my local and stashed some $100 cards already lol. Got downvoted for it though :(

Either way, using them to put money into super is just a bonus.

          • +2

@Ghost47: Beem doesn't accept these gift cards. Sniip works.

            • +1

@beesider: Yeah I just signed up to Beem It and tried adding one of the old cards I have. I'll give Sniip ago, but aware of the transaction fee they charge.. might still end up ahead in this situation though by a few percent. Thanks :)

            • @beesider: DEFT payment in sniip doesn't accept digital coles mc :(
              Not sure about physical one

        • +1

worked for me paying into rest super via sniip

    • +1

No good, already maxxed out this year's 55k (between both of us). So can't even pay ourselves again till July.

      • +2

Are you aware of carrying forward contributions from previous years? Your limit may not be $27,500 unless you've maxxed out your contributions the past 5 years.

  • +1

    Digital better for me

    • +3

Yep. Better for the planet too.
Also, less time wasted scanning cards.

      • +3

Less time wasted running to shops
        Guaranteed stock availability, etc

Must admit, I'm spoiled by the Digital promo as well. Hope that keeps coming back regularly.

        • +7

There was something incredibly satisfying about laying all comfy rugged up in bed while it rained outside, buying $2500 of cards at a time, then immediately converting them into utility payments, other gift cards, etc. Too easy.

          • @wavesgreen: Yes. Even more so when they sent them out almost instantly.

I had all my browser tabs open ready to go to make the payments.

  • +2

I only wish I can add and use it from Google wallet :(

  • +4

Hate buying physical gift cards for the discount. Cashiers treat you like some criminal just because you buy more than 2.

    • mine dont give a toss

    • +5

They're just jealous cos you're rich.

  • I got new CBA credit card .. can I purchase this MasterCard and meet my 90 day spend requirements to earn bonus Qantas points?

    • -1

Yes, but you must drive all the way to the Coles located in the rich suburbs(in your logic).

      • +1

Hahahahaha …. I was going to do it anyway as that's the only place to get it without needing to be disappointed… !!!!

    • +3

Yes, I earned 25k+ qantas points by doing this last time this promo was out.

If you want to earn points with ATO payments, I think this is the best way. 0.5% surcharge only, and no need to use third party websites if your card doesn't allow points on government spend.

      • Do we need to make payment directly by credit card or through google wallet?

      • These cards are only charged a 0.20% surcharge at the ATO.
A payment of $249.50 totals to exactly $250.00 ($249.50 of debt cleared + 50c surcharge)

        • Well worth it IMHO!

        • Sorry can I confirm that this physical coles Mastercard gift card can be used to pre-pay my future tax bill with ATO (eventhough I haven't lodged my tax return for this FY)? Thanks

          • +1

@illuminate-cn78: I don't know if you can pre-load your ATO account and have that offset any future tax obligations. If I had to guess, I'd say it probably would work but I have never needed to do it.

          • +1

@illuminate-cn78: I can definitely confirm that you can deposit the balance of this card into your ATO account. I just did some this morning. Regarding what happens then if you do not have a current debt you need to search this thread. Go to view all and do a word search for ATO. I do recall someone saying that the funds were returned to the card.

    • +2

Of course you can. I'm doing the same to meet the limit and take advantage of the $300 cashback. Winning!

  • -5

    You pay &94.50 so how’s 10%?

  • +1

Can you buy costco shop cards with this?

      happy to be corrected

    • The Costco website does not take prepaid cards for purchases, and I was not able to use it instore either.
I have not tried for their shop cards, but I would imagine you'd experience the same issue as any other Costco website purchase.

      • Which Costco is this? I know my mum has been using these cards at Costco Ipswich for the last two years or so.

        • They haven’t been accepting these cards from recent months. I used these cards last year but this year they reject

          • @ashtdp: That's interesting. I used one at Costco Ipswich today. Might be warehouse specific.

Damn, I am travelling overseas at the moment and will not be back until July!

    • +1

      There’s always next time

  • Well this is a nice surprise, so close to the digital 10% off offer

So back to the 5 cards per person per store per day routine

My local today had 6 rows of $250's and some of them are now hiding in a slow moving section

    • what section ?

    • -1

How often did the digital offer come? Where do I get it for next time? Is it easy to use in store and online? Thanks

      • +1

How often did the digital offer come?

It has only happened once, so I have no idea how often InComm (the gift card scheme owner) or Coles (the company that licenses its brand for use on the prepaid gift card) want to run those kinds of deals.

Where do I get it for next time?

The only place I know of that sells digital Coles Mastercard gift cards is Coles Group’s online gift card portal.

Is it easy to use in store and online?

        Sort of.

Digital Coles Mastercard gift cards only support card-not-present transactions. In other words, they only support transactions where you only need to provide the card number, expiry date and CVC2 to initiate payment (and that is assuming the merchant asks for the CVC2). You may be asked for a cardholder name, but for prepaid gift cards, it can be literally anything (e.g. Donald Duck, Homer Simpson).

In terms of instore purchases, digital Coles Mastercard gift cards do not support mobile wallets, so the only instore redemption method available is MOTO (mail order / telephone order). Good luck finding a merchant that (a) knows what MOTO is and (b) will willingly let you pay for something in-person via MOTO.

In terms of online purchases, digital Coles Mastercard gift cards will only be accepted at merchants that choose to accept it as a payment method. Considering digital Coles Mastercard gift cards are not tied to a verified cardholder and do not support security features found on many debit and credit cards (e.g. 3-D Secure), some merchants will choose not to accept them out of concern the gift card has been fraudulently obtained and therefore more likely to be associated with a fraudulent transaction. You can scroll through the 23 pages of comments of the aforementioned deal to get a sense of what worked and what didn’t work…

        • +1

I actually had quite a bit success with MOTO. Most merchants who dont know MOTO are actually willing to let you MOTO when the transaction is a reasonable amount (>$100) because they are unaware of the fraud exposure related to MOTO and want to close a sale. You just need to guide them how to MOTO.

Also most dentists/optometrists/ specialist/hospitals who have your personal info are pretty willing to put MOTO through on HICAPS terminals (It is under NAB Applications- manual card entry instead of using the MOTO term) They seem to be more aware of the "manual card entry" capability compared to regular retailers.

          • @truetypezk: I must say my experience has been pretty much the opposite. Pretty much every time I have asked about MOTO, I either get told no or staff get very suspicious of me wanting to guide them in using their EFTPOS terminal.

The only MOTO transaction that I have managed to do in-person recently was at a hotel, but the hotel staff member insisted on seeing my physical credit card and they would key it into the EFTPOS terminal themselves. No chance of me doing anything sneaky there.

I will also mention that when I volunteered at a cafe a few years ago (and part of the job was using the EFTPOS terminal to accept payments), one of the managers instructed me as part of training to never accept MOTO transactions. There was actually a case of a transaction dispute arising from a MOTO transaction not long before I started volunteering there, and that caused the two managers a massive headache, even though the amount being disputed was around $5…

  • Sucks if I have to provide them with an email and mobile number. I wonder if they consider old registrations that pre-date those requirements fully registered. Well I suppose I'll find out next week if there are still any cards in stock by the time I get to my usual Coles.

BTW, it seems you can go somewhat over the loaded value of these in some circumstances. I unintentionally managed to go over paying my council rates because they charge a card fee and the way my council or rather their software package uses Paypal. Like a normal Paypal payment I was redirected to Paypal and had to confirm the payment amount which at this point didn't have the card fee included but unlike a normal payment Paypal stated it was only going to pre-auth the card and the rest of the payment was to be completed on the council's website. At the council's web site I was asked me to confirm the payment this time with the card fee added and they generated their own receipt. So it would seem that for some combination of payment processor/issuer you can exceed a pre-auth when finalising a transaction even if that takes the transaction above available funds. You would think that shouldn't be possible especially with a non-reloadable prepaid card.

    • -2

Seems that Coles aren't enforcing the fully registered criteria at least in my case. This was a FlyBuys account that was never requested and came unsolicited to a Coles Mastercard holder. That Mastercard was closed without notice but the FlyBuys account lives on and it also linked to my card. Not sure whether I was lied to or there was a spatial or communication issue but was initially told no stock was received as of Wednesday evening but $100 cards managed to be found after I asked a manager. They were sold to me by the staff member I asked in the first places.

  • -3

Just wondering can I buy this coles master card by using Coles gift card? I have some gift card left..

  • Has anyone actually tried purchasing multiple quantities of 5 with different Flybuys cards, but at the same store?

Wondering how the staff would react to it :/

    • +2

Yes, I did it last time and the lady at coles was so helpful and put them all through, about 40 cards with 4 different flybuys numbers :-)

Try to pay at a different register and you will be alright.

    • +3

I did but not alone as other said above staff look at you like you are criminal or stealing their candy… LoL

I go first and do five and then have my partner doing same but on different counter .. lol

As I said number of times before go to wealthy suburbs and staff don't give rats about how many you buy or your partner… !

    • +4

It really depends on the staff member you get.

      • I have only done this once myself (back when you did not need a Flybuys account for these deals), but it was a couple of hours before the store closed on the last night of the promotion and there were still heaps of $100s on the shelf. I could tell the self checkout assistant was extremely hesitant to let me purchase 10x $100, but she told me not to tell her supervisor what I was doing and that I could definitely not purchase any more than ten.

      • During the last 10% off Coles Mastercard gift card deal, a customer just bought 5x $250s at the self checkout next to me and wanted to purchase more. The self checkout assistant called over the store manager to authorise the second transaction, then the store manager said that the gift card purchase limit was 5 gift cards per customer and they would not authorise any more purchases for them. The customer then argued with the store manager for a couple of minutes - essentially, the customer argued the catalogue only had limits for each Flybuys account, but the store manager pointed out there were two posters at the top of the gift card shelf saying limit of 5 gift cards per customer - and the store manager eventually got fed up and asked them to leave the store.

      • +7

I feel arguing with or even trying to politely convince a team member to sell you more is never an efficient use of time. I normally bring 2 sets of 5 cards to the checkout, if they happily put it through without saying anything, I will return to the same checkout and buy another 2 sets. If they refuse to sell me the 2nd set, then just say alright that's fine and go to a different register or drive to another store. Time is literally money on Wednesdays as it is the only day most stores still have some cards on the shelf and worthy of doing drive arounds.

        • +4

Exactly, the only time I had to argue was my very first purchase in the last round.

Self-Checkout was closed early in the morning, so went to the service counter

Forgot to scan my Flybuys and purchased the cards at full price

Initially the girl didn't want to refund as she wasn't allowed to, then the excuse was the system wouldn't let her

3 staff members later, got the refund and purchased 5 at the correct discounted price

Drawing attention to yourself to try to get more than 5, is not productive

Go elsewhere/different store or checkout and move on

        • +1

My local Coles hides the $250s. Funny thinking I guess, running a promo and hiding stock.

          • @t25: go to rich / wealth suburb of wherever you are living and let everyone know how you cracked the code :D

          • @t25: Might be someone else living in your suburb who did that. This person is likely reading your comment too

      • +1

I agree it all depends upon staff on duty at that time but my experience since i started buying is that the western sydney suburb is worst … they literally have two staff standing next to me watching like i can take card in my pocket and run away and redeem it … !!

staff should learn that each flybuy can have 5 cards and don't argue or waste time trying to stand next to customer buying this cards … ! if someone has two coles card then again don't waste time because as i shared last time same family member with two different card get discount once only if their flybuy accounts are connected … so the only way one can have discount twice is if they have two separate card not connected on flybuy account and if that is the case then staff should just let customer buy .. !!!

        • +3

You didn't know? Each saving you take home is a negative entry on their payslip. That's why they act like the AFP of gift cards.
