Dont forget to stack with 10% off in giftcards from Coles

    • How do you do this? Keen on purchasing if I can get it at $1500 that’ll be a steal

      • +7

Step 1: Go to Coles and purchase $1700 worth of ultimate gift cards that can be used at Officeworks (e.g ultimate home). Because the maximum denominator is $100 (that is currently on sale for 10%) you will need to purchase 17 cards. Note you can only purchase 5 per transaction (max per customer), so you might need to visit different stores or just walk out and walk back in and purchase more at different register (so staff dont complain)

Step 2: Take the 17 cards to Officeworks and tell them you would like to pay with 17 split transactions of $100 each. The staff may look at you weird and even say thats not possible (but I've paid with 18 cards before and can confirm it works). So just keep pushing if they say it cant be done or just go to a different store. If the product is not in stock in that store you can ask them to place a click and collect order (you will have to wait 1-2 business day).

TIPS: Before going to the store, unpack all the cards and scratch out off all the pins at the back so they are ready to go. It will save you and the checkout staff alot of time. Also see if you can purchase the visa version of the gift cards at Coles (make sure the card number on the back starts with 457824), this way you can use remaining balance online at any eligible store later. Also just triple check the gift card you buy has the officeworks logo on the front, best to purchase ultimate home as they are usually available in denominations of $100.

        • Actually gonna give this a crack today haha

Thanks for the insight, I’ll let you know how I go

        • +1

Worked! Was a bit of a muck around because the coles employee didn’t want to let me get more than 5 gift cards and apparently if you walk out and walk back in you’re still the same customer? (5 gift cards for lifetime? Lol)

Anyway got it done, confirmed with manager at office works first that I could use 17 gift cards in one transaction, worked a treat! Much appreciated!

According to apple.com.au this laptop doesn't support 120hz monitor

Nothing better than macbook air m2 model.

      • Do you mean the display is not promotion 120hz or it does not support external monitor with high refresh rate?

        • +1

          First one

        • +2

Even m1 can support 4k 120 withexternal monitor

          • @javawoo: I figured but had to ask because you reference 'monitor' but not the screen. I don't mind not having high refresh rate on the display if that means longer battery life. However, I do appreciate high refresh rate support to an external monitor. I currently have the MacBook Pro M1 and its been great. I regularly have it hooked to my Odyssey G9.

  • Do any of the stores like Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi sell 16 GB M2 MacBook Airs, or is that a special order only from the Apple Store?

    • +4

      Special order.

    • +1

No anything that requires a custom config is apple store only order.

    • +2

all sorts of weird configs pop up in the apple refurb store from time to time. usually around 15% off rrp - same warranty as new ones.

      People… make unhelpful suggestions

TL;DR: The base M2 Air is noticeably quicker than the M1 Air and 14" Pro in actual real-world use despite what many say. You will be happy with the base and the money saved. Only upgrade the SSD if you need the extra storage.

With only 8gb of Ram its easily running out and SSD will be used as swap memory

Not by telling how many votes but I got a M2 MBP 8gb/256gb from work
and I can tell the difference compare to my M1 MBA 8gb/256gb

I am not even using it for heavy tasks like exporting 4k / 8k videos
mainly used as ios app development and normal web browsing

        • I only care about web browsing speed and opening google docs/word. The speed of opening these applications is most important in my work as I open and close multiple an hour. Any difference between the M1 and M2 you could possibly test for me?

edit: not just opening, but loading all contents and being able to type instantly

Good machine but the RAM and storage capacity is criminal

    • +4

I think 256GB storage is a bit manageable, but 8GB RAM is not good for future-proofing. As soon as you go for 16GB RAM & 512 GB storage, Apple charges hundreds of dollars more which is ridiculous.

      • 16gb is a must, could go with windows $1000 16gb but batteries on mac is unbeatable

        • Its $300 AUD extra from Apples’ website though, it feels like they are overcharging. For the average user, 8GB RAM is most likely fine as the M1/M2 chips optimises processes and memory usage.

        • This MSI is currently on sale for $1500 and has 75Wh battery. I get excellent battery from my Surface laptop 4 which only has 45Wh battery so MSI should be a lot more and it weights less than 1kg.

    • Pay more for what you want. This is minimum spec for people who only watch YT and simple works on their PC

      • +3

1600$ for watching YT.. strange times

  • Noob question. Does Macbook’s CPU and GPU share/use the same RAM? For eg. with this Macbook, the stated RAM is 8G, so are both CPU and GPU using the same RAM?

    • +1

Yes. But it's not your old Intel onboard graphics.

  • +5

I don’t think I would buy this machine. Ever.
A 13 inch MBA is quieter and cheaper. If you want heavier loads should be getting a 14 inch MBP.
The 13 inch MBP only exists as a price point. Oh, and for the five people that thought the Touch Bar is desirable.

    • +1

Oh, and for the five people that thought the Touch Bar is desirable.

Who are these people? Where can I find them?

  • hope they sell iphone pro max cheaper later

    • They will and they already do

  • As someone that dislikes Apple, I'm very tempted!

I don't like their protectionism of products and being generally overpriced, but their battery life and M2 chips are just outstanding.

Does anyone know if I can run Fusion 360 (CAD software) on it?

    8GB ram?

    • +1

        256GB?

Low storage and ram , what is the use case for this device?

        • +3

from 8gb to 16gb need to pay extra 300
          apple know the tricks

        • Anything

  • +2

I wouldnt buy this model. If you want to upgrade that would make sense but this basic model is same performance with macboook air m2 model and this one doesnt support 120hz display.
