My opinion is that the Q7 max likely the better buy if:

  • You have more hard floors than carpet as it has a larger water tank but a smaller dustbin volume than the Q7
  • You want more mopping controls, it has an electronic water tank as opposed to a gravity tank in the Q7 and the ability to set mop and no mop zones.
  • You need superior suction power (4200Pa vs 2700Pa on the Q7)

Performance (including mopping) is similar to the S7 MaxV according to the video but the MaxV has better obstacle detection and the ability to lift it's mop making it more convenient. However, this will cost you a bit more as the MaxV sits at $1299 delivered.

Just bought this, seems to be the best balance of performance, feature set and value in the roborock lineup IMO

I have the gen 1 Xiaomi.

If I don't need the mop function the Q5 is the best? Or what the best non mop robot?

I’m in the same boat. Don’t care for the mop. Is there any suggestions on one without it?

    • Where can you even get the q5?

I can only comment on roborocks as I haven't used others, you can use all of these without the mops. You simply detach the mop head. Unless you need the added suction (which you may not if the gen 1 has been sufficient) regular Q7 or Q5 would be best (they don't really differ from each other as far as I can tell). You could go E5 but imo it loses the Lidar navigation which makes a big difference and is something you'll miss from the gen 1.

Regular Q7 without the dock is on sale for ~$40-50 more than than the previous dea from the Roborock ebay store. Link

    • Q5 isn't sold in Australia. I'd probably still grab the Q7 Max+ in that case and just not use the mop, Roborock software seems best. iRobot j7+ if you find a good deal on one.

I'm also upgrading from gen 1 Mi Robot, but I am planning to use the mop. Ecovacs software has a bunch of complaints, Dreame brush height has a bunch of complaints, iRobot navigation has a bunch of complaints, but considering what we're upgrading from I'm sure that anything will be fine. Mine is still working after 5 years and a service at Robot Specialist last year to replace the engine.

Seems a great deal @ $817.36 (eBay Plus).

Pull the trigger, or wait … Is the $ going to get any better?

    • Probably not unless someone has a whole heap of stock getting around.

That said, I picked the S7+ deal for $950 (eBay Plus) after a lot of direct comparisons:
      * carpet detection for mopping (I have a lot of rugs)
      * separate mop/dustbin
      * bagless option for auto-empty dock

Performance otherwise seems to be pretty much the same in practice, judging by reviewTube etc.

    Thanks for the credit!

    • Thank you for the original post. Your post helped me make a decision on finally getting one after my gen 1 died.

Thanks, grabbed this with extra 3% off using shopback gift cards

  • Does anyone know the max height of carpet edging this (or any) robot vac can get over in the transition from hardwood to carpet?

  • Has anybody received their Q7 max? I ordered on 13th and paid for express shipping but still have not received it.
