    +1 for description.

  • Yeh but the screen can't even display a reasonable set of colours

And IdeaPad is full aluminium now?

That's good sick of the plastic

    • +6

Not going to get a $3000 laptop for $1000

      • +2

we do get laptops with color accurate screens within $1k mark pretty often

        • +1

True but with a H series processor the likelihood ain't high.

        • +4

          With:
          - DDR5
          - 13th Gen H series
          - USB-C
          ?

  • +1

    This vs Macbook Air M1…

Still don't see any Intel altnernatives to the M1 - no fans required, and high performance whether on battery or not… and good battery life. Can't be that…?

But this deal is very enticing, especially compared to the previous Lenovo deal.

    • +4

Yea but not windows buddy .. sadly

    • +2

someone mentioned amd 7940hs as m2 rival

      • +1

This is for gaming… i.e. massive fans, not passivly cooled like the M1.

        • +1

There’s a few AAA DX12 games that work surprisingly well on M1 MBA with the new Porting Toolkit. Not quite consumer-level ease of operation, but it’s getting there.

    • +4

If you are looking for a MacBook M1/M2 rival you aren't looking at Intel 12th and 13th gen, because they have very average performance per watt. Hence probably why Apple presentations keep comparing to past Intel based laptops prior to M1. Instead you are looking at AMD Phoenix, 7640/7840/7940, which have much better performance per watt and good iGPUs. Hence you are starting to see these CPUs being promoted on YouTube in multiple devices such as SFF PCs, hand helds like the ROG Ally, and laptops like the 2023 Asus X13.

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/5454vs5183/AMD-Ryzen-9-…

      7940HS scores 30k
      M2 Max scores 26k

The Asus A16 gaming laptop with AMD Phoenix can play a lot of AAA titles at high/ultra settings and has a battery runtime up to 20hrs. Whilst it's not an Air competitor, it's rare for a gaming focused laptop to have such good battery life capabilities.

Your response could be awesome if you advised which AMD chips are fanless?

        • +1

Likewise if you could provide a response where M1/M2 can provide performance in applications outside the controlled Apple ecosystem, like AMD and Intel CPUs can provide with operating systems beyond Windows.

        • +1

Good point, Apple fanless chips are really awesome. Even on battery power, the performance is really good.

      • This is not an alternative (AMD 7940HS) because it's a gaming laptop, i.e. requires massive fans and very likely plugged in to reach its max potential.

Genuinely curious about M1/M2 alternatives for WIndows with respect to performance and cooling and battery life.

        • As I already stated in my previous comment, the Asus A16 is a gaming laptop which provide really good battery life for productivity and also play AAA titles at high/ultra settings with a 7940HS. It's something that the M1/M2 can't provide and hence is not a direct competitor.

If you want a 13" laptop with the same AMD Phoenix CPU, good dGPU, and good battery life, lookup the Asus ROG Flow X13 2023 2in1 touch screen.

No fleecing for cloud services because they dont provide enough storage. And it's possible to leave android if you want, because they don't make a whole heap of transfer programs that don't work.

Is this really 3.5 KG heavy ? I cant get hold of a personnel on chat. I would have bought it by now if it was not this heavy

    • +1

Check out the third last line of the deal post.

    • +2

      Lol wut. It's 1.46kg.

    • +2

That's probably the whole package's weight
      1.46kg for the laptop

      • +2

What kind of a charger weighs over 1kg

  • +2

Thanks mate for all the deals you have been posting. 👍

His username is ChatGPT .. there is no effort involved .. it's all AI.

      • No you are wrong. Effort it's required to find the deals and post the deals.

        • +1

          AI is smarter than that

      • ChatGPT would recommend a deal on a car without wheels and say you can just push it.

  • Seems odd to have a powerful Intel 13gen but no TB on one of the 4 USB ports.

    • +5

Probably because they didn't want to pay for costs of certifying the laptop for Thunderbolt by Intel. It is an entry level chassis.

    • +3

It is $1K .. not going to have everything.

      • How about $715 for Acer Nitro5 an515-56 with Thunderbolt? Can attach few 4K screens.
        Super upgradeable with M.2 (gen3), SSD & max 64GB RAM :)

        • +3

          11th Gen
          8Gb RAM
          2.3kg

        • Where's the link?

    • Would rather 4 usb ports than 2 TB ports

  • +3

I'd personally save the money and get either the Yoga Slim 7 suggested by OP or this:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780062

The processor choice seems extremely weird. Tons of CPU cores but there's no way you're extracting anywhere near all the performance with the cooling afforded by a small 14" chassis. Not to mention the H series processors have severely cut down graphics engines (64 graphics cores vs 80/96 in the U series i5/i7) so for most people who would use this laptop for casual gaming it's actually not a good choice.

In my opinion this model only really makes sense as a portable workstation for someone with very bursty loads who can make use of the full 16 threads.

    • +3

I bought the Asus ROG Flow Z13 last year .. i5-12500H is tablet form factor. Worked great in tablet. This should have more cooling capacity.

      • +1

Interestingly Asus made the Z13 as a concept to see if making a tablet form factor could result in better cooling as the hot parts are raised and exposed to airflow. It actually worked, so the Z13 is one of the better cooled devices out there.

  • Can you play League of Legends on this? And can anyone make a Lenovo edu account?

  • anyone here can confirm how they got the additional 10% when using latitude pay? I cant get the chat going

  • Can anyone suggest me any cloud base server/services which I can run 3D Cad applications such as revit, autocad? I need to buy a new laptop but for these applications but I don't want to carry around heavy gaming around wit me. Instead, I would like get lightest 16" laptop and run those applications on the cloud. Is there such a cloud services like that. I appreciate for the answers. Thanks

    • You could set-up a Virtual Machine using AWS or something, then run it on that, ask ChatGPT mate

Meanwhile scApple want $3229 for their 14” similarly specced MBP

    • +2

Meanwhile some ozbargainers complain about the screen at this price.

  • Can this be connected to two or three 4K monitors?

I have one Dell U2723QE and two Philips 328P6V

    • Probably be ok @ 30hz.
Will need decent thunderbolt dock otw

      • Thank you for your reply.

Yes I am going to do 30hz.

So to connect to all three monitors at 4K 30hz, can I connect from the HDMI and the two USB-Cs (using USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DP cables/docks) at the laptop end? And is that the only option?

        • 3 monitors plus the laptop screen as well, so 4 displays in total?

          • @Ninja9: Correct, although I don't think I will use the laptop screen if I connect to 3 monitors
