  • I think this is a duplicate, but prolly worth a repost

    • +12

I reported the old post asking for it to be bumped as a dupe instead, but official response from mods was to post a new deal! 🤷

      • It is a cracker of a deal, so worth the repost for those that missed :)

        • +7

Not really. I'd like to know how many people have actually obtained it. The whole new customers thing… generally I'd say people are either customers already or have made a conscious decision to avoid being a customer

          • @justtoreply: I can't advise how people redeemed it, but if you can work it out seems cheap.

          • +1

@justtoreply: Yeah I'm one that has no interest in using Afterpay but one son is keen on the game so maybe I'll take advantage of this deal.

        • +1

Yeah it did for me this morning (note it's July not June in the terms). No idea how close we are to 5,000 redemptions but you can swing a referral code for the same benefit.

      • loving it, i've been excited for this title for a long time!

  • Can anyone confirm if using XJUN2023 is the same as the 10% off shop you get each month with woolies mobile or is it separate/different? I usually do a large woolies shop with that monthly 10% off which will give more savings

    • I don't think we get discount codes anymore. Since June, the discount only applies if you buy and pay in store.

      • +3

The code doesn't appear in the app and it says in-store only for me but I'm still able to apply it to my order.

        • Then go with god (so to speak). Be interesting to see if the codes continue to work past June.

      • +2

The new terms only apply from July 1, so we can still use the June codes for online (and presumably in-store as well with the double dip trick)

    • +1

Way i read the terms is one 10% off a month at Woolworths and one 10% off a month at Bigw. Best to double check yourself though.

  • +2

So I've played BoTW but haven't finished (only finished elephant boss).

Can I just pick up ToTK and play it or does it build on (or make references to) BoTW?

    • +9

Completely new story but some minor references throughout, plus some characters are common across both.

    • -5

From what I heard its basically the same game. With new…..what are they called? tricks? You know how you do magnets and stuff…

      • +3

New abilities are arguably much cooler and versatile than the previous ones. Here is a subreddit that has some insane stuff that people have built.

The map might have the same layout as the old one, but most of it is different. Not to mention the addition of the sky islands and the underground areas. I'd say it's an at least doubling of the actual explorable space.

Can't comment on the story, not that far through the game yet myself.

    • +2

Depending on your perspective, you could say yes or no. ToTK takes place directly after BoTW, but without going into more detail (I would have to spoil the game) I think you could play ToTK stand alone. Especially since you didn't finish BoTW.

    • +2

ToTK is a sequel to BoTW, so yeah technically it does follow on.

    • +2

Finish BotW, you wont go back to it after TotK

      • +1

exactly my reason to finally play my BOTW after owning it for 3yrs lol.. cuz once i play totk i dont think ill be playing it again

        • +1

finally play my BOTW after owning it for 3yrs lol.

          3 years XD

          ozbargainer buy now play later?

    • +1

You can just play ToTK. Same map, but added in sky and underground area. Existing areas have been upgraded too and there's new caves to explore.

The beginning of ToTK sets up the story and opening area acts as a tutorial for you to get used to the new abilities so even if you haven't had experience with BoTW you can still play.

Having said that I do think you'll get more out of it if you've played the old game because it's a sequel.

    • +4

If story is important to you then you should finish BotW.
TotK is a direct continuation of it.

      • -1

Surely someone has written the story by this stage, it's not that new of a game.
        Perhaps here?
        https://www.zeldadungeon.net/wiki/Breath_of_the_Wild_Story
Otherwise, it looks like a LOT of people have covered it on Youtube.

        • +7

If OP is fine with a secondhand experience then there is no need to buy TotK at all.

There are plenty of people streaming it online and its story has all been explained by now.

          • @PKBeam: Well sure, but it sounds like they WANT to play TotK.
I was suggesting they could read the story first hand, if there was story elements that you felt were important not to miss, then play TotK.

I wasn't suggesting that they wouldn't like playing the game.

        • +4

Part of the charm is coming back to a world that you have explored to find what has changed and what has stayed the same. What are the characters up to now? How have things you set in motion progressed?

The game certainly is a love letter to players of the first. Entirely enjoyable as a standalone, but you're definitely missing part of the experience.

Plus if BotW didn't pique your interest, this, while arguably improve in most ways, is unlikely to change your mind.

IMO play BotW first, especially if you already own it.

      • +1

Totk is a direct expansion of it.

    • +2

      Just finish BotW first.

In the ongoing launch excitement we're all gushing about how TotK is better than BotW, but that's because it builds on the genius of the original and adds more.

Would you skip an amazing movie just because an even better sequel came out, and people were talking about it?

  • am i considered a new customer if i closed my afterpay previously and reopened?

  • If you are an Everyday Rewards member, try coupon XJUN2023 in the Big W checkout to get an extra $6.90 off

Will this work with the console without afterpay?

    • What console? I'll see if I can apply the code.

      • Nintendo switch

        • +1

The code is applying but isn't taking money off the console. I don't think it works with consoles.

          • @GoonSack69: Thanks, I tried didn't work without link the rewards card, in that case not because I didn't link the card.

          • @GoonSack69: Yeah, the 10% off doesn't apply to consoles

  • +4

you need to be a new customer though wish they did this for existing.

  • +1

Must've screwed something up. Signed up for an account, added card etc, but when I try to use it to buy this it just says my account is frozen.

  • -6

Nintendo: Brand new sequel $39. 7 year old (still great) original game, $79. Sounds about right! Bought both of course, even a "bad" LOZ is better than most other games!

    • +6

The game is still $79 though. Afterpay are just picking up the difference.

      • I know, I was being facetious, as there are a lot of offers on TOTK where BOTW can often still attract almost full price, notwithstanding generic offers.

    • +7

      The game isn't $39, it's on sale for $69 ($10 off).

It's just Afterpay are willing to give you $30 for you to sign up and hand over your personal information (provided you make a $50 purchase).

You could use that $30 for Breath of the Wild instead, or you could use it on a bulk purchase of dishwasher tablets. It's all the same to Afterpay.

Personally, I'll let them keep their $30 and stay out of their database.

      • Probably smart, I hear they don't delete your personal data when requested to but instead amend your email address. They may delete other things (e.g name, phone number) but I have no way of knowing not being on the inside

        • +1

Personally, it just seems silly to sign up to a whole new financial service just for a $30 coupon.

From a cyber-security perspective, it's increasing your vulnerability surface for pocket change. Not to mention the possible use of personal information for annoying, intrusive targeted marketing.

If someone really needs Afterpay to help manage their cash flow, then fair enough… take the $30 as a bonus for signing up to something you were already going to use. However, if Afterpay wants me to sign up for the sake of it, it's going to need to offer an incentive an order of magnitude bigger than this one.

          • @axyh:

Same don't want to sign up with afterpay, zip, etc etc etc.

          • @axyh: I'm with you in principle. But what happens if you just sign up, make this one purchase, and never use Afterpay again. And delete your account. I'm not sure the level of personal data they are asking for (not having signed up before). Can you expand on this?

            • +1

@gryphondarks: Looking at the website, they require: your name, address, credit card details, date of birth, phone number, email address and identity documents (i.e. Driver's Licence, Medicare Card, or Passport).

The privacy policy then states they use this to gather information from “fraud prevention providers, and credit reference agencies” and other “publicly or commercially available sources” to screen and profile users. There is no mention of retention periods for this additional information. They also collect IP address and geolocation information from website sign-ins.

I’m not handing that kind of information over unless I plan to use the service long-term. It’s not worth it for a one-off $30 voucher. In the event of a data breach, that’s more than enough information for some serious identity theft.

              • @axyh: Got you, thanks @axyh @superforever

Yeah given the repeated hacking of major providers Optus, Medibank, 28 Degrees, it's not worth the risk. Although the ozbargainer in me finds it hard to look away from $30 for Zelda!

            • @gryphondarks: They are like apply for credit card, so not that simple, needs a lot of your personal information.

  • -4

Deal posted today on 13th, however deal ended on 12th June.

  • i tried typing / copy pasting the code but it kept saying "Please enter a valid promotion code". What's going on?

    • It's an Afterpay promo code, not Big W.

      • +1

sorry, am confused so i need to go through the Afterpay app to order and then pay for it?

  • suitable for a 4 yo?

    • +3

My 4yo likes to explore the open world and help with the amiibo but he's not ready for the combat or that weapons break easily. He smashes Kirby Forgotten Land and Mario 3D World if you're looking for neurotypical 4yo appropriate games.

      • +6

        thanks mate

can't wait to play diablo 4 with my son :)

    • Probably too complex unless they're the next Stephen Hawking

  • +1

Thanks OP. Ordered for $39 on my wife's brand new Afterpay account ;)

And got another $30 off voucher on my Afterpay account for referring a friend. Cheers!

    • +1

      It was $32.10 with XJUN2023 code :)

Referred a family member and used their account to get it . They got an extra $30 off promo to use later and now I also have a $30 referral on my account.

      • Good work! I was too lazy to make an everyday rewards account haha

    • i did this with my wife's new Afterpay account but not showing $39 :( would you mind outlining what you did step by step please?

      • Did you add the promotion code in your account through afterpay app? You need to use the app, at least last week it was like that

      • Yeah what playboy said. Made a new account. Added code in afterpay app. Shopped on bigw store inside afterpay app. Checked out with afterpay. That’s when it shows $39. Good luck!

        • The app was apparently super buggy as some other commenters has mentioned. When it didnt work the first time, I cancelled my order and reached out to support (in hindsight should have contacted support first before cancelling my order as they would've simply credited $30 to me). But now they applied the promo to my account and I ordered it again. For some reason couldn't use my referral code on her account either, I'll have to ask support again.

Cheers OP and others for helping

    • I did the same. Then tried to use another $30 off on my wife account, but Afterpay blocked it now.

  • +9

Isn't it against the Ozb spirit when you can get exactly the same discount with a referral and give another Ozbargainer $30 off at the same time?

  • When will AP give promos like these for exisiting members? I have noone to refer to :/

  • +1

Do I have to actually use afterpay to purchase it, or just sign up for afterpay? I would feel dirty even having an afterpay account though

    • +1

Need to use Afterpay unfortunately as it's an Afterpay discount which applies during the Afterpay checkout process.

  • such a good game, finished it last night

  • Looks like all it takes is a Zelda game for everyone to jump on board AP.

  • +6

My stubborn self doesn’t want anything to do with Afterpay. Have foregone many a deals due to it!

    • +1

My stubborn self doesn’t want anything to do with Afterpay

      Same

    • Alright, i'll bite. Why?

  • Bit of a mess around, but great price! Had to create an account for my wife as I've used some Afterpay offer in the past.

  • Just signed up afterpay but i cant anywhere I can put to code before payment

    • Add the code in your Afterpay app and then at checkout, pay with Afterpay.

      • Thanks found it.

  • Do i check out at BigW page with afterpay? I can’t see where to put in the code except at the cart which the code is invalid.

    • +2

Add the code in your Afterpay app and then at checkout, pay with Afterpay.

  • +2

Thanks OP, created an afterpay acc for my partner using my refer code and applied ER pts. So got the game for $36 delivered and 30 bucks credit in my afterpay acc. :-)

  • Is there anyway to find the referral code?

  • Would this game appropriate for a 7yr old? Or would the controls and things be too finicky?

    • +2

Probably not. It's a grind and a half. I'm sure they would prefer a Pokemon game.

    • Better to start of with breath of the wild its more beginner friendly. Tears of The Kingdom makes the assumption you already beat the previous game it felt like.

  • +1

first time using afterpay. can I just leave it so after pay charge for the moninated dates? or should I open the app and pay on time?

    • +1

just pay now and forget about it

      • Damn I could pay all now thanks

  • Just bought, thanks for the deal!

  • Darn I am a long time Afterpay user

  • Doesn't work for me. I have tried creating an afterpay account after adding the item in big w and there is no discount other than the everyday rewards code. I have also tried going in directly from afterpay, no dice either..
