FANATEC CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle for PC (5 NM) $639.90 + Delivery @ FANATEC

1290

Seems like a pretty good deal on an entry level direct drive wheel and pedal combo.

The blurb from Fanatec:

Dear sim racer,
We’ve done it again - another game-changing price point in sim racing! Full Direct Drive package for $639.90. Plus, you can save additional if you add the Boost Kit at the same time!

Direct Drive: the choice of pro racers worldwide. What’s the big deal?

Most entry-level racing wheels use small motors in combination with gears or belts to increase the torque on the steering shaft. Using the same technology as professional simulators, direct drive requires a more powerful motor, because the steering wheel is directly mounted to the motor shaft. This means there’s no belt or gear mechanism to dampen the force feedback effects.

FANATEC CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle for PC includes:

CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2
The steering wheel’s lightweight construction helps to retain fine force feedback detail even at low torque settings. Its 300 mm diameter is suitable for many vehicle types. It features a RevStripe and display, and metal paddle shifters.

CSL DD Wheel Base
The CSL DD raises the bar for performance at this price point. The powerful direct drive servo motor delivers linear, consistent performance (5 Nm torque), with the optional Boost Kit 180 (sold separately) unlocking the maximum strength (8 Nm torque).

CSL Pedals
Both the throttle and brake axes use precision Hall-effect sensors. The stability of the all-metal design means it is built to last. The stiffer spring on the brake pedal combined with the PU foam damper provides a realistic, progressive feeling. The pedals can be upgraded to a load cell brake for even higher performance.

This is another step towards our goal of bringing direct drive technology to a wider audience. Now is the perfect time to find out what you’ve been missing!

Kind regards,
Team Fanatec

Could probably cop a little pain in the worst circumstance, for your average adult player. Don't think 5nm DD could go dislocating/breaking hands or wrists though

    • +2

I ran the 5Nm before getting the boost kit and it really depends on the circumstances.

Hotlapping by yourself you're unlikely to have the wheel pulled out of your hands if you're over 15 I'd say. However in a race against the AI I have been at a hairpin where my arms were crossed over when one of the AI divebombed into the side of me and that pulled the wheel out of my hand and hurt my thumb pretty badly as it got caught in the grip.

One thing I've had to adapt with direct drive is to respect slamming the curbs and be ready to let go of the wheel in case of a crash. Its the sudden jolt of an impact when one handed or at an awkward angle that gets you.

      • Ahhh ok. Sounds interesting! A lot of fun, no doubt!? Is it worth the outlay of such a rig?

        • It's certainly fun but different, more intense.

Grabbing a gamepad and having a quick race is a way more casual sort of fun, getting in the rig is just way more mentally and physically intense. At first I wasn't having as much actual fun as I sucked compared to what I could do with the gamepad but as I've improved its become more fun, but yeah hard to describe, its a different kind of enjoyment.

I can only imagine taking the next step to the track is similar when you find out you need to build up some skill and the intensity level of feeling g-forces and actual risk of bodily harm and expensive repairs add to the intensity level!

  • Decided to get 1 - been meaning to try out a DD wheel since I sold my Logitech G920. Looks more compact to for easy storage than the Logitech?

  • +5

with my skill level, i dont deserve this

    • +2

Get this to improve your skill level is what I heard.

        • Step 1: Get sim racing setup
        • Step 2: Improve skillz in F1
        • Step 3: Take new skillz to driving daily car
        • Step 4: End up causing an accident because your brakes locked up

Though in all seriousness, I think Dirt Rally did improve my skill level.

    • Upvoted for honest review.

  • +3

Great first deal OP! And also good on you for not asking everyone to 'go gentle on me' :)

  • I cant see where this mounts to the desk?

    • +3

From memory there is a separate desk mount you need to buy.

  • +1

Euro Truck Sim here I come!

  • I have the G29 currently. Would upgrading to something like this (with the boost) be worthwhile and keep me happy for a long time or would I be looking to upgrade to clubsport pedals, better/stronger DD etc quite quickly do you think ?

G29 has served me well since GT Sport came out (majority of that time it did spend in a box) the last year or so I've been using it mostly weekly at least and more frequently in the past couple of months so now that I got a basic rig set up permanently. Starting to think I want to upgrade and just worry about having to do it twice by only going entry level DD.

    • +3

      Great deal.

I've had the CSL DD with 8nm boost kit, CSL pedals and McLaren GT3 wheel since release, but dial the FF strength for most cars in AC down to about 60-70%, as I find stronger settings whilst perhaps more realistic can slow me down - e.g. affect me driving a precise line through chicanes over high kerbs. Also, some community built tracks in AC that are not as polished can also produce odd FF effects that are unpleasant/distracting at high force settings.

I probably would have been fine with the 5nm to be honest! I think the G29 is around 2.2nm, so if you got the DD with boost kit you're already looking at more than 3X the power.

So yeah, after 2 years I have no intention of upgrading the base - my next upgrade will probably be a Formula wheel, something like the Leoxz XF1. Hope this helps! :)

      • +2

Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback from someone who's actually made the jump!
Certainly gives me some more incentive that it'd be a good upgrade rather than going stupid getting a DD1 and crazy priced stuff!

  • This is a fantastic deal.

  • Can someone tell me I don't need this please

    • +1

      doooo it….it will be fun!

    • +1

      you don't need this.
Also can you return the favour LOL

      • Stay strong brother, we can't be doing this right now. That being said.. if there was an outrageously cheap cockpit / rig deal near me on marketplace or something I probably would have just bit the bullet haha

  • 2268 clicks - wonder how much stock they have lol

    • 2263 of those are people clicking to see why a $600+ vidya game peripheral is a deal ;)

(not having a go, I'm about to buy one!)

  • +1

Very happy with my CSL DD

If you plan on playing a lot of F1 games / GT3 cars the McLaren GT3 V2 CSL Elite Steering Wheel is a great addition. Having the option to swap between a round wheel and a formula-style wheel depending on the game you're playing

  • +5

get the pedals from aliexpress or somewhere instead of paying extra 250 for the load cell. They are much more adjustable.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004122119334.html

    • +1

The Simmson/Ruito version from Ruito store is an even better deal. Upgraded from T-LCM (already load cell), very happy with it.

      • did you get the hydraulic rod? worth it?

        • I got one for the brake pedal. I didn't do comparisons with and without it due to not being practical to remove, but I can tell the difference in the stiffness and stroke just by repositioning the dumper up and down in the slot. There is a particular ad selling it separately for about $16 AUD, which I think is worth it.

    • Have you tried pairing the aliexpress pedals with Drivehub?

Plan to play on ps5, but unsure whether the aliexpress pedals are compatible with Drivehub.

  • Nice price. I don't need the pedals but would have considered the bundle anyway and just find a way to hack a bigger power supply to get 8Nm later.
I ended up going for the Chinese 15Nm Cammus bundle (no pedals) via Toyosim EOF sales, $899 with the wheel. Now I have to upgrade the cockpit as well (:

  • Purchased! Thanks! Was 50/50 about the load cell. Decided on the poverty package

  • +2

What's funny is the RRP for a Logitech G29 or G923 is similar to this price… And I know for a fact people have paid that price in the past.

Insane to think for the price of a gear driven wheel you can get a Fanatec DD wheel lol

  • For anybody looking at third party boost kits and wanting to do it with an Australian approved power supply, the best price for a 200W, 24V supply is going to be about $110 before plug and diy wiring (which in my case is also often a bit of diy burning myself) - which makes the $175 discounted price for the fanatec boost supply not too bad (https://fanatec.com/au-en/detail/index/sArticle/1789).

The one sucky part is that the 8Nm kit has only 1 year vs 2 year warranty for the 5Nm.

    • How bad is the Aliexpress version?

      • Not so much an issue of how bad they are, as a problem that they aren't certified to Australian standards. A lot of imported power supplies will meet or beat Australian standards. The very cheap ones, probably not so much - which is also probably what you would get when you buy a cheap knock off boost kit.

Unfortunately, a small proportion of the cheap power supplies catch fire (check out stories on cheap imported phone chargers). And if this happens it could void your house/contents insurance because you were using a power supply that wasn't up to Australian standard - regardless of quality.

Lots of ifs and buts, but I've taken it seriously enough to hunt down and chuck out about 2 decades worth of accumulated no name power supplies. I figure I've paid enough for house and contents that spending a couple of hundred bucks sorting power supplies to eliminate insurance problems is worth doing - but that's just me.

  • +2

If they would apply the same discount to the Gran Turismo version, would be all over it

  • +2

The reason of $79 bundle discount for 'CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit' is not shown might be due to such discount is not eligible for stacking with the bundle discount of 'CSL DD Ready2Race' Bundle, which is $288.85.

If you check from 'Bundles' page there is a 'CSL Pedals Pro Bundle' that comprises of three components: CSL Pedals, load cell kit, and pedals tuning kit (basically they are three steel pedals instead of the standard one), so if you check the specific bundle discount it is $79, hence why someone has mentioned that he has to add the CSL Pedal TWICE in order for bundle discounts of both $79 and $288.85 to be shown.

Please note that the $79 discount is still eligible also with CSL Pedals + load cell kit, without the pedals tuning kit, albeit non-stackable with OP's deal bundle discount.

I am not sure if it is a good idea that you buy extra set of CSL pedals solely for the $79 discount, as the marginal return of your total discount is diminished. But if you are one of those who switch pedal sets between casual and critical driving styles for different genres of racing, consider the CSL Pedal set costs the least from the combination, this could be an option.

  • +1

Sat on the fence about this one for ages, but just pulled the trigger. In the end couldn't justify load cell or 8 Nm boost. Will check out Aliexpress load cell options instead. Did opt for the extra 1 year DD warranty though.

Will offset by selling my G920 and an old stand I've had sitting around. Nothing like an expensive upgrade for motivation to pull my finger out and get stuff on marketplace lol

    Thanks OP!

  • Next Level Racing Wheel Stand (NLR-S002) from 2017 anyone know if CSL DD is compatible?

    • Not sure how well that one will work, given it's not designed for DD wheels. I'd suggest it'll probably rattle and move about quite a bit if you manage to attach the CSL DD.

Next level racing sell a specific stand for DD wheels, that's probably the one to get.

      • im not too bothered, currently have a t300rs and wasnt planning on upgrading for a year but the price has got me interested

already have the NLR-S002 im not bothered if it performs poorly just hoping it'll mount without drilling holes until i can figure out a long term solution

  • Ordered Tuesday night, received shipping and tracking confirmation this morning , nice

    • +1

Very tempted by this deal… did you have a link to the boost kit you purchased?

      • +1

        I purchased this one: https://rb.gy/61dtj

        • I ordered the same one, pretty cool that they have option to pay only after you receive for some items like this

  • Wasn't planning on it but here VR! 🍿

  • +2

@Bedford just a headsup, 5nm bundle is now OOS, 8nm still available.

For anyone looking for a wheel stand.

Managed to pick up the FS3 wheel stand and the Fanatec DD wheel mount for $183 delivered using the $20 code (they email the code once you subscribe to their mailing list).

    Also cheers OP! 🍻

  • For someone starting out in Sim Racing. Will this bundle be all I need for F1 racing game on PC?

    • +1

Plenty enough, but you'll need something to mount it to (or a desk mount)

      • Thanks @mickeyjuiceman

Have to wait for their next deal. I missed this round 😭

        • What do you mean? it's still showing up for $639.90 for me! Get on it!! :D

Very nice! I received my bundle yesterday and can confirm that the quality all round is absolutely top notch. Even the packaging/boxing really impressed me, everything very well packaged and all components are of very high quality. The wheel force feedback is fantastic and definitely a big step above the Logitech. Look forward to receiving my Ali Express 10Nm power supply to try!

Good stuff looking forward to receiving mine and seeing what all the fuss is about! 🤌
