I noticed this discount was back on, obviously not the most exciting deal, but it is still at RRP in most other stores which is [4K] $99 and [HD] $59 so I guess its good to know.

    Chromecast with Google TV - [4K] $79

    $77 here…

    $78 here…

    No deal

    • you reckon if we price match harveynorman to OW they'll give a 5%? :P

      • +2

        Very likely.

  • If have old tv and just want internet functionality. Any benefit of 4k model over hd model?

    • +1

      No

      • Thanks

    • If you have a 4k TV, buy the 4k model, otherwise buy the had version.

      • Understood! Thanks!

        • 4K has more ram

    • yes, 4k model, has 512mb more ram and a faster cpu, hence less lag on interface.

      • Oh right. Thanks

  • Can these operate like an old school Chromecast? I don't want to have to add my account to it because I don't want the kids to have access to mine, I'd rather no account set up and just cast off phone apps.

You can. I do. But they will see all those apps and ads every time it's not casing something. It's really designed to be used just with the remote.

    • You may register a new account just for the Chromecast

      • Yeah but my family account for YouTube is already full, so either the new account gets ads or someone loses access.

        • +1

Sideload Smarttube on it, ad free youtube.

    Good first post. Well done.

Lol, these are cheaper at a raft of different stores. This isn't a bargain.

      • Are you able to link to where you've found it cheaper? Especially the HD version as @JV has already linked the 4K versions.
Then OzBers can price beat it at O.W.

        • Seems I linked a referral link. But Amazon, David Jones & HN are all cheaper.

Thinking about this comment re the hardware in the 4K vs HD version:

The 4K version has older hardware (and doesn't even support AV1 codec, for example).
The newer FullHD version DOES support AV1 (and has a newer chip).

I got the 4K one about 2 years ago. I recently noticed it'd been set to HD output for some time. I switched back to 4K and you could tell the FPS in the menus dropped.

The 4K model is cheaper on eBay if you have eBay Plus via AllPhones for $74.72 with SEOFY22 code at checkout:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165032787105?epid=8041421108&has…

Also selling for $79 on the Google Store, and if you have the higher tier Google One subscription, with 10% back in credit, brings the price of this down to about $71.10 delivered.

  • The 4K one was as low as $54 very recently, got it myself. Not a deal at $79.
