I want money off. Not gift cards that mean i have to buy more shit

    • +2

I thought some of the JB gift card deals were used in the same transaction off the phone price? (Or I have misremembered what I read in previous Ozbargain deal comments).

      • I think that's from promos that come with their phone plans.

    • +2

      Capitalism

    • -1

Just sell the gift card at like 10% off

    • hear! hear!

    • Gotta do some sort of gift card hot potato with other OzBargain members.

    • They don't expire and you'll find something one day.
Otherwise sell on here for 10% less.
Otherwise just keep phone you got.

  • Meh deal…

  • can somebody do the calculations to show how much the total cost spending when we do the jbhifi way 🙏😄

    • +9

      Do you even math?

      • +14

        Noob sir

This guy understand.. I'm a noob and I'm ok asking the question. :)

Considering trading in my Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB and I did some maths :D

      Google Store
      $1849 - $700 (trade in) - $355.47(store credit) = $793.53 out of pocket

      JB Hifi
$1847-$605 (Trade in) - $350 (Trade in bonus discount) - $350 (JB HiFi gift card) = $542 out of pocket

Obviously there are variables to consider, for example I have $55.47 of credit remaining on Google store, and for JB it depends on whether i intend on using the gift card to upgrade my existing Pixel Buds Pro 1st gen…………..

      YMMV, obvi.

      • In this case TMWV

  • +16

I thought the point of a pixel was it didn't cost thousands

    • +19

      was

    • +2

That was Nexus. Pixels want to compete in the premium space with iPhones and Galaxies so their ridiculous prices reflect that.

      • +1

Dunno, my 7A was $520 on release

        • +10

I was clearly referring to the premium range. The A series is not that.

      • +3

Crazy how he stated something so blatantly wrong yet still got upvotes lol
Pixels were always expensive, with a few cheaper devices.

        • Must be plenty of peeps like me who buy the A series

I'm genuinely blind to high price phones, i rarely notice such ads i tune them out. Even being in this thread is a weird occurrence for me

If they paid their slave labour appropriately (right through supply chain) then yeah to higher prices. Then maybe people would keep their phones longer (I only bought the pixel 7a for better kid photos, otherwise I'd still be using my lg v30+)

      • But they don’t compete . Only in price

    • Thousand now with a bonus of HUGE camera bump as well.

      • +4

Pixel do the best camera bump in the industry. Length of the phone, centred, doesn't wabble at all when on a table. Other phone's amount of wobble and instability should be a crime.

        • -2

L take, pixel bumps are the ugliest out there. Also, who cares about table wabbling? Who uses his phone on the table? How is this even an issue when you have a case on?

    • When they invest $Bs, they want money back …

    • Generally Google like to anchor the price of the Pixel absurdly high at the start (to give it in the same halo-product aura as iPhones etc) and then a couple of months down the line they start getting major discounts/bundles that make the deal a lot more attractive. That's why you often see deals on them here.

It's a strategy they've used for basically a decade now at this point, it must be working for them to some degree.

      • They were an awesome proposition when 799 or even 999. If it weren't for the hacks (ie cancelling the Mobile contract, given the cancellation is less than voucher) then it's hardly a great deal.

  • +19

This pricing is absurd for a phone with the hardware performance that is 5 years old (e.g. the Tensor G5 chipset having dreadful performance) and is already beaten by many mid range devices.

If you're that obsessed with stock Android, wait a few months and this will be 50% off. It's a general rule to never purchase the Pixel range on launch unless you get extremely good deal, which isn't the case here.

    • But but but its about "amazing AI experiences"

      Hahaha

    • +3

      Waiting on Black Friday basically.

      • +1

Tbf, Black Friday deals have been sub par lately. We all saw the Amazon price hike before BF last year.

    • +3

I can't find a Black Friday post for previous Pixel 9 Pro for example. How much was it?

Only good deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL in the last few months, I think (outside preorder).

    • New built in wireless charging thing and new built in AI and more camera lens. I don't know if they still use the old camera chip from 10 years ago

  • +2

    For a Pixel 10 $1347; trade in boost $200 + trade in value $385 (pixel 8 pro 128gb) = $762
Seems to be the best outright offer available to me atm, anyone expect something cheaper? Based on past deals.

    • +3

I'd wait for cheaper unless using the 8 Pro is killing you.

      • +4

Will consider this. Last time I skipped a pre-order deal I ended up waiting almost a year for the same price. Can I wait that long for a 0 difference new-phone-feeling? Let's see haha

      • My pixel 8 pro top right pixels are bleeding :((

      • 8 pro is kinda killing me though, ever since the last update the battery drains twice as fast.
The lengths these evil companies go to to scam you out of your money these days…

    • swapping a pro to a non pro thou

    • +1

      For a Pixel 10 $1347; trade in boost $200 + trade in value $385 (pixel 8 pro 128gb) = $762

You also get a $300 gift card, effectively bringing the cost down to $462. While the JB gift card isn’t redeemable when purchasing the phone, it has no expiry, so it’s as good as cash (unless you never intend to buy anything from JB again).
Or get the Pixel 10 Pro for ($1697 - $350 Bonus pre-order GC - $350 trade in bonus - $385 trade-in value) = $612 for the Pixel 10 Pro, which I’m considering as a replacement for my Pixel 8 Pro.

Or am I missing something ?

      • Math is mathing here. If I needed something from JB then it'd make more sense to get the pro - otherwise I'm just out of pocket a bit more.

In my edge case, I don't mind the smaller phone - actually looking forward to downsizing, not so fussed about battery or cameras - really just care for the chip and longevity.

        • "Maths", we are in the United States.

        • +2

In my edge case, I don't mind the smaller phone - actually looking forward to downsizing, not so fussed about battery or cameras - really just care for the chip and longevity.

Just FYI, the 10 Pro and 10 are the same size. I don’t play games and haven’t had any issues with the G3 in the 8 Pro, therefore unless you do heavy gaming or demanding tasks, you likely won’t either. But the regular 10 is a downgrade in many other areas : all three cameras, the display (LTPO vs. OLED), Wi-Fi spec, no UWB, and wireless charging compared to even the 8 Pro. Aside from the SoC (which you may not notice a difference in daily use) you’re mostly downgrading by choosing the regular 10. That’s why I think the 10 Pro is worth the extra $150.

  • +1

not the best offer of pixel series

  • For Pixel 10 Pro: if I buy Ultimate Him gift Card at 10% off from this deal and use that gift card for JB HiFi pre-order, can I save further 10% of final cost price?

  • +3

    Sombody check my maths

    Pixel 10 pro 128GB

    1697 - 350 (gc) - 300 (trade in) - trade in value

    = 1397 - trade in value - 350 gc

If ultimate gift card 10% works then cost is
    0.9(1397 - trade in value) - 350 gc
If we say trade in worth 300

    987.3 - 350 gc

For the plan with trade in (1400 off)

Out of pocket cost: 297- trade in value - 350 gift card
    Assume trade in calue 300
    = 0 - 350gc

    Voucher repayment fee 1000x23/24 = 958.33
    Using 1 month = 99

    Total = 1057.33 - 350gc

So the plan method is more expensive?

    • Don't know maths but this phone is expensive…..

      • If you subtract the value of the gc then 637 for a new phone isnt that bad imo

        • For the trade in gc would you be able to get the 350 off for every phone you trade in? or just 1 time only. Thanks

          • +1

@noobsir: Would be very surprised if u can get it multiple times

            • @emperortamarin: Why not? If you have multiple phones, you should be able to trade in multiple times and get $350 off/coupon. Assuming you want to buy multiple Pixels.

              • @FerreroRocher: Many JB stores DO NOT stack bonus trade-in credit with $99 Telstra plan anymore. I was almost rejected this morning but luckily I got through after I argued about it. It is not worth to take the risk now.

                • @brich1980: Always been the way. Just lucky if you get an attendant who doesn't know or care.

    • You should also assess what a fair trade value for old phone is. The 350 bonus is great but you do get lowballed on the phone. Apparently my p8p with cracked back glass is worth $20 🤣. $370 total trade is probably more than fair, but it's definitely not $350 better than just selling it on marketplace.

      • +1

I have a samsung galaxy s23 and it gives 320, approx same value as samsung store so not that bad

      • just don't send the phone in and sell it on marketplace afterward

        • Then need to calculate the penalty for not sending the phone …

    • Yeh seems like outright purchase atm is cheaper.
I'll have to wait until TRS valid period. Deals then will decide whether i getvthe S25 or P10P

  • +5

Looks like the gift card amount has increased by $50 for each phone. If you look at the Pixel 10 overview page or the individual phone pages, eg 10 Pro XL it says it's $300 for the 10, $350 for the 10 Pro and $400 gift card for the 10 Pro XL.

I currently pay for 2tb Google One and YouTube premium. There's some freebies thrown in here, so wondering if I can cancel or downgrade those plans and then accept these offers…

    • +1

The YouTube Premium offer is only available to new users (no current or past trial of YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, YouTube Red or Google Play Music). The Google AI Pro offer is not available to Google One users subscribed to an add-on, Google One users subscribed to a higher-tier plan than the one being offered, Google One users on a family plan who are not the plan manager, and Google One users who have a subscription via a third party or affiliate.

      • Yeah new users only not existing so you can't take advantage of those bundled offers. Unless you setup your phone/add a different account that has never used those services, to redeem it.

    • +3

Cancel youtube premium and use Revanced instead or other ad free options.

  • +4

Wasn't the Pixel 6 Pro $1299 and now they trying for 2k. I feel they will shoot themselves in the foot, if its iPhone price people will just get an iPhone

    • +4

They increased the price since the launch of Pixel 8
      Pixel 6 Pro 128GB $1,299 28 Oct 2021
      Pixel 7 Pro 128GB $1,299 13 Oct 2022
      Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 4 Oct 2023
      Pixel 9 Pro 128GB $1,699 22 Aug 2024
      Pixel 10 Pro 128GB $1,699 28 Aug 2025

      • Increased the price and decreased the screen size.

        • +2

Yes they did, but they also upgraded from Amoled to Oled, refresh rate increase to 120Hz as well
it is not too bad I think

          Pixel 6 6.4 inches AMOLED 1080 × 2400 px 90 Hz
          Pixel 7 6.3 inches AMOLED 1080 × 2400 px 90 Hz
          Pixel 8 6.2 inches OLED 1080 × 2400 px 120 Hz
          Pixel 9 6.3 inches OLED 1080 × 2424 px 120 Hz
          Pixel 10 6.3 inches LTPO OLED 1080 × 2424 px 120 Hz

        • And kept the same modem.

      • +1

But the p6 pro was technically p6 pro xl.
So it went from p6 pro xl 128gb $1299 to p9 pro xl 128gb $1799

    • +3

If it's iPhone prices, Android people might just be better off going for a Samsung Galaxy S series, at least the SoC will likely have better performance. Me personally, I'll be holding onto my Pixel 7 Pro for much longer. These prices are pure greed.

    • -3

I would get an iPhone even if the pixel cost much much less. Tensor is a joke.

      • Please explain what you find funny about it?

    • +1

Pixel do heavy discount like this while iPhone don't unless iPhone do the same like last few deals (rare before). These days it's just the matter of iOS or Android.

  • +1

So with the bonuses it really makes more sense to go the Pro.

  • +3

I took advantage of HN $69 plan for last few years to get my new pixel . Now with 36 month contract , I am looking at JB 99 deal.

    Want to pre-order pixel 10 pro 256 - $1847
    $1400 off on 99 plan
    Trade-in Bonus -$350
    Trade-in (old pixel 5) for $60
So overall cost is = 1847-1400-350-60 =$37 (plus 99 per month for 24 months)

    Plus will get $350 GC
Plus - Google AI (1year with 2TB storage) which is $34 i guess

Also planning to sell my pixel 9 pro XL mobile monster for $750( $390 goes towards the HN optus contact cancellation )

    Does it make sense?

    • +1

      is this real ?

      • +2

I just pre-ordered my new pixel 10 pro Jade 256GB
        Used $350 Trade-in Coupon
used $60 Trade in value Giftcard
Used $1400 GC from JB promoton $99 plan
        Paid the differance of $37
and got $350 JB Gift card

        • How did you get the $350 gc if you haven't collected the order yet?

          • @reactor-au: I was surprised as well , the sales guy told me i can collect it today , and while paying at the counter , they looked at the order checked the offers and handed over $350 GC.

    • Does the trade in bonus stack with the mobile plan voucher?

Also if you're in Sydney have a look at Phone Exchange. Not sure if they take Pixels but has a great experience selling a s25U to them.

      • Many JB stores DO NOT stack bonus trade-in credit with $99 Telstra plan anymore. I was almost rejected this morning but luckily I got through after I argued about it. It is not worth to take the risk now.

Anyone who wants to buy this phone should consider this issue below. If same issue, your Pixel 10 Pro/XL may die after raining for example because your phone may have a hole between the camera bar and the phone later maybe in less than a year. If less and less people buy this Pixel 10 Pro/XL series, hopefully they'll sell these much cheaper :P

I wonder if the camera bar design for Pixel 10 Pro & XL has the same flaw problem with Pixel 9 Pro/XL:

    Also with Pro non XL:

    • +6

i am using Pixel 9 pro XL for last 12 months. No issues . Same design for pixel 10 range as well , so I am not worried . if there is issues , it will cover in warrenty.

      • -7

If this issue is on all Pixel 9/10 Pro/XL series, it's only a matter of time because our phone has vibration for alarm, phone calls, messages, keyboard, etc.

        • Does Australian Consumer Law protect us from the defects of camera bar dislocating/ detaching within 2 years from the phone and claim warranty by replacement or refund?

          • @jaboday423: Do you prefer repair or replace? Replace with new or refurb? How about the hassle from transfering data, change settings etc. if not all data on the cloud?

            • @neoleo: I assume many might prefer brand new device sent first (then return defective one) or request refund if this happens within 2 years of warranty period - using Australia Consumer Law protection - Any thoughts if we can use it against Google if their is any defect in the device within 2 years?

              • @jaboday423: I think we can use ACL even outside warranty period for this issue. If I buy this, I hope to use it for years … Not keen on changing phone every year.

                • @neoleo: @neoleo did anyone (you might know off) of Australian users who faced this issue tried to use Australian Consumer Law to get a new device or refund?

    • Had same issue. Holding onto it for a class action. Pixel are always generous with them. I would really hope they have fixed it with this one

  • +2

Will there be better deals than this? Hopefully…

Waiting on actual device performance metrics.

  • +7

Google deals are so bad this year,

lower trade-in ($700 vs $850 last year), lower store credit ($300 vs $450 last year),

no more 10% student beans / Unidays discount,

  • Can you use the pre-order gift card in-store to purchase the phone?

    • +2

No , giftcard arrives only after you recive your phone.
