          • @KB57: Thanks, yeah tried with a few different support people, none are playing ball with refund.

            • @containsmsg: Me too! At some stage they even refused to cancel the plan. But after complaining they finally cancelled it for me; no refund though.

              • @KB57: what reason did you give them for the cancellation?

      • Do I get to keep the plan active for the first month after cancelling it?

  • -1

Looks like the voucher repayment fee has gone up to $1000?

    https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

    • +1

No it's still $800, can confirm in the jb mobile app, $766.59 voucher repayment fee of cancel or downgrade today

      • +1

Can also confirm, I've called Telstra already and they read out the cost when cancelling will be $766

    • I can confirm that mine is also $800. But it was $1000 for Flip 7 when I pre-ordered not long ago. Not sure why Pixel 10 got lower fee.

  • Do I have to sort out the trade-in online to get the voucher first or can they process it in store at the same time?

    • +2

As discussed previously, you need to do it online before visiting a store.

    • +2

      You do it online first

  • How much do you actually end up paying if one cancels ( immediately ) the phone provider plan if one doesn't intend on using the $99 phone plan?

  • It’s strictly port-in now right, not new number?

    • Aldi mobile is the solution for this

      • managed to get an Optus $2 activated instore without a recharge

        • +1

          how?

          • @truebunny: i bought it from woolies, and tried to activate it, but forces a recharge to be added

i went into the optus store with the sim and asked them to activate it but i dont want to put a recharge just yet. I just said i'm looking at a few options right now and will add it later in the evening. Had issues doing it online in the past so while i'm here, do it instore to avoid any issues.

            then ported out 30m later

  • Hopefully they've sorted out the battery management on this pixel. Tensor chip isn't ideal but good enough phones if you can get them for the cheapest deal. I have never really been a Samsung person but haven't looked back since the S25U (and I've had every odd number pixel since the Nexus 6P).

    • Yeah, it'll never be as good as a snapdragon, but TSMC made 3nm chip with a better modem and vapor chamber means heat+battery drain should be a lot lower.

  • In this long thread, I can't find an answer to the following question:

In case I can't get to stack $350 bonus trade-in voucher and want to cancel the trade-in, do I get charged value of my trade-in device ($20) + $350 or just the cost of the device? (I'm trading in my Samsung S8+). If I can't stack the voucher, I wouldn't have the use for trade-in voucher either ($20).

    Thanks.

    • You would have been already charged/on hold for trade in device value ($20) & got a job hifi coupon worth $20 and you will get back $20 in your card if you send in device.

Trade in bonus is a coupon code (not typical bar code - so expires after promotion date)

If you don't send your trade in device then they won't refund you so you keep $20 JB hifi coupon for future purchases.

  • I submitted for a trade in but haven't received any emails for the gift card, can I still get the trade in bonus if I don't use the gift cards?

    • check ur spam, usually quite fast

  • Greensborough Plaza store - no stacking. 1400 off or trade in bonus. 400 GC at pickup.

    • +1

Same with Chadstone shopping centre and Chadstone Homemaker.
Looks like a lot of the stores have caught on.

  • Hi,
Anyone have trouble getting the verification code for the trade in gift card?

  • I was almost rejected this morning at Springvale store but luckily they still applied the $350 bonus trade-in credit, after I argued with them but I doubt they will do it anymore. Another thing is, surprisingly, the $99 plan cancellation fee for Pixel is still $800, not $1000. It means I would still pay only $766.58 (termination) + $99 (1st month) if I cancel it tomorrow, which is a great bonus.

Not long ago, when I pre-ordered Samsung Flip 7 + $99 Telstra plan for my wife, the termination charge was $1000 though. Very strange.

    • How did you argue with them, also was it the sales staff or checkout you had to argue with?

      • 1) I genuinely believe it is stackable because the way JB presents on their website implies that all offers can be utilised at the same time. The saleslady was also not aware of this arrangement either (I think it is something new this year).
        2) The T&C on the website is so ambiguous - cannot stack with other offers or promotion - does it mean not even with the $400 pre-order GC? Obviously not.
        3) The port-in process has completed and I was already on Telstra 24 months plan. It is irreversible and it is a huge trouble to cancel / refund and port-out the number to another sim card etc. The system still allows the coupon to be entered, so considering the mess, they just let me complete the deal with $350 trade-in coupon.

But I would not risk it if I knew it at the beginning. Just not worth the argument etc.

  • For those who got $1400 voucher like me but don't want the plan - are you waiting for phone to arrive and then cancel the plan or you're cancelling upon order has been placed? Thanks.

    • I have the same question

    • +1

Already cancelled! Waiting to pick up the phone on 28th I believe.

      • Thanks for your response. Aren't you concerned that your phone order may get cancelled if the Telstra service it's attached to is also cancelled?

        • Not really. I have the email from JB confirming my pre-order for the phone. The JB Hi Fi mobile which is essentially Telstra handles the phone plan so I'm not expecting issues. I'm sure many others have done the same. I did the same thing last year too. I wanted to cancel straight away to get the $99 refunded, which I did.

          • @shanks43: How did you ask for the refund? They refused my request

            • @KB57: Had to try 3 times for it to work! Third time I claimed financial hardship for them to transfer me to another rep in the Payment Assistance Team who promptly agreed for the refund.

            • +1

@KB57: The jbhifi store I went to didn't make my pay the first month untill the 28th. One hour after signing the contract I used the Telstra live chat on the mobile app and said I found a better deal and would like to cancel. Then they said I'll have to pay the $799.92 fee by the 28th. The cancellation process was about 5 minutes for me
Make sure to use a number that isn't important/new phone number because Telstra live chat said I cannot port the number to another provider for 6 months

    • +1

I'm waiting to cancel… Since I've paid for the first month might as well use it?

  • went to about 5 different places around Brisbane
    indro, city, garden city Carindale
yesterday and today and not accepting both offers. One or the other

Would be 0 out of pocket if got both but just paid under 150 (used trade-in gc value)

    • Went to 1 in Brisbane (north side) and got all the deals stacked. $350 trade in, $400 gift card, $1400 off. Pixel 10 Pro XL ($1997 retail).

      • Got lucky. Pretty inconsistent with this

Some doing and others not. Went to chermside at 130 today for something else and try my luck, no dice.

        • I think weekend staff might be more hesistant? I went to Carseldine and none of the staff had heard of the offers before.
I couldn't see anywhere it says we aren't meant to be able to stack them and neither could they.

          • @xsacha: I gave up and used only 1400 offer. Still better than full price regardless but was out of pocket 220 instead of 0

mentioned 150 above however my gift card never arrived during trade in process.. cancelled my tradein this morning by calling them up

            • @zb c: When you say gift card didn't arrive, do you mean the trade-in or the bonus coupon? You have to select the bonus (it gives a list of options) when you click through to the trade in page.
              Otherwise maybe spam/junk email?

              • @xsacha: the gift card that was issued for the trade in device

clicking download gift card just spooled on the loader and nothing happened

    • did you tell them up front before signing up to the phone plan that you had a trade in voucher?

  • Anyone been to the Melbourne stores today? Any luck?

    • You may get lucky JB store in Burnside ;-)

PM me for salesperson's name who made it happen.

The trick is to apply the $350 bonus voucher first. Salesperson then puts the "purchase process" on hold, until the next step which is signing up with Telstra. When this is approved, store manager will authorise a $1400 gift card. After that, you go to cashier who will apply the $1400 GC to already reduced (by $350) phone. At this stage, you could also apply any other GC you may have. Good luck!

      • Yeah party is over, everyone in the Melbourne CBD stores are clued up about this.

      • As in the salesperson and manager were aware what you were trying to do and helping?

Are you saying that the salesperson at the phone desk could start the process for you and put the $350 trade in bonus through for you before they took you to the cashier with the memo on their computer telling them not to accept the bonus?

I feel like most people would be happy enough to get any sale through if there's a way to get it through that won't get them pinged by head office later.

        • +1

The $350 still works in the system if they scan it BEFORE any other GC (i.e the $1400). But it goes against the T&Cs of the promotion, so any staff member aware of that knows they are breaking rules if they do allow it.

The way vrsac is describing it is incorrect. They will complete the entire transaction at the checkout in one go, there won't be any discount applied to the device prior to them ringing you up. All of the discounts are a combination of giftcards and manual codes, in which the order of them being applied is critical.

If they're starting the transaction for you prior to doing the port in with Telstra, then they're liable for a lot of things if your credit checks etc bounce.

  • cashier's seem to have a memo now, even though floor staff say it's ok, won't let it stack at payment

  • My trade in email says device must be returned by 31/8/2025 which is 7 days as I did the online trade in today. However at the top of the trade in page it says "Extended return times apply to pre-order offers" but it does not say how long that is anywhere. Do you have to contact them to say you used the gift card for pre order to have an extended return window?

    • +1

same with me, but when I flagged this in store the manager after I pre-ordered in-store, they confirmed it will be fine to hand over my old phone after picking up new pixel since its pre-order. So the 7 days should start from when I collect my new phone.

Manager said they will see it as I used the trade-in coupon for the pixel so they'll know that its linked to a pre-order so no issues.

I'll call the trade-in company tomorrow anyway to re-confirm

      • I also rang them this morning and they are aware of the pre-order date and the automated email saying 7 days, told me to ignore that date in email and just send it in as soon as possible after I have recieved the new phone and it wont be a problem. They are getting a lot of phone calls about it.

        • +1

haha yep called em this morning, you beat me to it with the update

They said the same thing to me, also said getting so many calls about this, so all good next Monday pick up phone, transfer data to it from old device, ship it to em the next day, no sweat

  • So just to clarify, there's $350 bonus gift card for trading in, then $400 gift card on picking up the phone?

    • +2

The $350 isn't a giftcard, it's a manual code they enter at checkout that only works for very specific items.

      • So $350 towards the phone on the spot?

        • Yep, when you do the trade in online, you get a choice of a few codes/promos.

  • Is there any reason to do the trade in over the $99 plan (assuming you can't get both)?

    If you do a trade in: its $350 (trade in bonus) + $400 (pre-order bonus) = $750

If you do the plan and cancel, its $1400 + $400 (pre-order bonus) - $99 (first month) - $800 (early repayment) = $901 (or even better if you get a full monthly refund etc)

    • I suspect people going down the trade in route are doing so because the value of their device is high enough that the plan doesn't provide any savings on paper.

I guess the credit check that goes on record may dissuade some people too. You also have to spend time in-store providing identity details for the credit check and organising the paperwork.

      • Don't you get the trade in value of the device (not the bonus) on either option though?

But I guess if you can't/don't want to meet the credit check or go into a store.

        • You do, but the 1.4k voucher amount is high enough that some people with recent models will clear the price gap and end up with an excessive amount left on the gift card - plus they will get the pre-order bonus gift card too.

          • @Tyrx: The $1.4 is meant to be only for " The $1400 off the current ticketed price of a Google Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL" but it seems like people are getting refunds of unused back to a gift card.

            • @tlai: You receive a JB Hi-Fi eGift against the value of the item you trade in.

This means if you're purchasing the Pixel 10 Pro XL 256GB, the "upfront" becomes $597 once the 1.4k voucher is applied.

If your old phone has a trade in value above this, then effectively you wind up with money left over on the gift card that you may not necessarily want. It becomes worse when you get the $400 pre-order JB Hi-Fi gift card when you pick up the phone. For some people, that's just too much to carry in gift cards.

  • How do you cancel without losing your number? If you sign up to another service, won't the number port over and automatically cancel the Telstra service?

    • +2

Yes ,you can port to another service and this plan get cancelled.

  • Got the Pixel 10 256gb on JB plan. Was able to stack the $200 trade in voucher. As noted here the counter ep entered the $200 voucher code first and then applied the 1400 GC. Left over $103 gc valie was handed over to me.
On pickup will get the $300 bonus gc.
    Happy days!!!

    • Which store please?

      • +1

Trade in value + $1400 GC you should be able to get anywhere. Issue is to use the $350 trade in bonus along with the $1400 GC

        • +3

Just to clarify, the $200 was actually the trade-in bonus.

      • JB Elizabeth St

        • Thats strange, i was told that they cannot be stacked.
May i know the rep name?

          • @Uniqlymine: Sorry mate, did not ask for their name.

          • @Uniqlymine: Maybe it's time to go there again, look for a different person that served you the other day
YMMV as a couple of post before this we had a persistent ozbargainer who got it done after his 3rd try

            • @evilhomura89: Also cancelled Tesltra plan and the early termination fee was 766. Have also requested refund of first bill 99 which can completed.

    • Did you slip the trade in bonus to the cashier first and hope they accepted it or convince the staff to let you stack it?

      • +2

Not really, the telco rep who signed me up upfront confirmed they can definitely stack it up.
All I told her was to used the bonus voucher code first and then the JB GC. At the counter the telco rep made sure to direct the counter rep to apply the voucher and GC in the said order. She even asked me not to use my dummy trade-in gift card and save it for something else..lol.
One of the better Telco reps I have dealt with!!

  • Hi guys, just a quick question. I am just curious about how many time i can do it on same Telstra account. I did it in July for iphone 16 pro max. Will it be too early to do another plan and then cancel later?

There must be some form of counting that Telstra is doing . Just weary of that. Can someone please clarify? Thanks

    • Just contemplating on it. If someone can shed some light on it?

    • +1

I've done it 3 times now. No issues

      • Can you please tell me 3 time in how many months ?

    • A different question, what was iPhone 16 pro max deal back then?

      • 1400$ off on 99$ plan in July 2025

    • I did 3 last year and 2 this year. total of 5 in 12 month's thinking about another one

      • Awesome. I am holding out for next iphone. But you never know, this deal is too tempting :)

  • Had success today with JB-HiFi in Homebush NSW. The $350 coupon needs to be applied first at the cashier - the trade-in coupon I received in the email only had a code (without a barcode) and so there was initially some confusion about how to get it applied. If they key it in first before doing anything else it should work, and then they apply the $1400 + the phone trade-in value. The extra $400 gift card was also issued on the spot, but they did mention that usual practice is to issue that when the phone is picked-up.

I think it's luck of the draw as to whether the promos can be stacked or not as I think the staff recognise that it's not supposed to be. Luckily the staff I spoke to were all super helpful.

    • Hi Mate, I might try my luck at homebush tomorrow. Can you DM me the sale rep's name?

      • Didn't get a name, but he was an Asian middle aged guy, think he had a buzz cut. Definitely find him if you can.

Also spoke with a girl named Brittney to resolve the confusion around coupon first and then gift cards at the counter, all of them seemed pretty chill about stacking the promos.

Just ask nicely and it should be fine. Best of luck!

  • can @BenjaminSesko or someone help me to calculate how numbers will stuck up for pixel 10 pro xl - 256gb RRP $1997 on $99 plan

trade in value pixel 9 pro xl - $585

    Thanks in advance

    • During pre order

      1997−350−585-1400+99+766.59

      =527.59 out of pocket

      Bonus
+400 JB hifi gift card for future purchase

      So overall
=127.59 for upgrading (considering you can sell or use JB hifi 400 gift card later)

      • what is 766.59

        • Telstra early cancellation charges (99 plan cancelling within a month)

(23/24)*800 = 766.66 but Telstra sent 766.59 invoice to be paid due to early cancellation.

          • @jaboday423: ohh ok thanks

            • @justchill: Without Telstra plan
