Google deals are so bad this year,

lower trade-in ($700 vs $850 last year), lower store credit ($300 vs $450 last year),

no more 10% student beans / Unidays discount,

  • Can you use the pre-order gift card in-store to purchase the phone?

    • +2

No , giftcard arrives only after you recive your phone.

      • +1

i got the giftcard today , but they wouldnt let the GC use it with this purchase , only future purchase. If you know anyone at JB , they might be able to do it i guess.

        • That's lucky you got it already, I'm not sure if they'll give it to be knowing I've cancelled the plan

  • +2

Just had a chat with a JbHifi Sales rep to clarify the stacking/Mobile Phone plan deal:
    - Can get $400 pre order Gift Card alongside the 1400off on the phone plan, but will only receive the gift card when you pick up the phone so cannot use it for the phone purchase
    - Will not get the bonus 350 off on trade in with the 1400 off as those aren't stackable.
    - Didn't ask about any other freebies but may head into the store a bit later to ask in person.

    So ends up being
    Phone price - Trade in Value - 350 & 400GC Outright
    Phone Price - 1400 - TIV & 400GC on 99 Phone Plan

    Anyone heard differently/had better luck?

    • +6

when i called the JB , she told me you can use the trade-in voucher towards the payment . I will be go to JB later today see if thats the case.

      • +5

        Update

I was able to use the $350 trade in voucher

        Used $350 trade in coupon,
        Used $60 trade in value+
        Got $1400 jb gift card
        Paid $37.00
        Got $350 GC

            • @BenjaminSesko: Do you remember sales person name at rouse hill? I checked this arvo and they said u can't trade in bouns

    • +3

you can defenitely use the $350 trade in bonus offer along with $1400 voucher. When u go to counter, scan ur trade in device value voucher first, then scan the $350 voucher, then the $1400 voucher.

      • +2

Oh ok that's good to know, was told you don't get the 350 bonus voucher for trade in if you get the 1400 voucher but will confirm in store.

        • Let me know if it works and I'll do the same!

        • I would not assume you get it. But perhaps staff don't know and you get lucky.

      • $350 GC that you get when you pre-order the phone (whether on plan or outright) can't be used in the same transaction.

      • Many JB stores DO NOT stack bonus trade-in credit with $99 Telstra plan anymore. I was almost rejected this morning and the lady staff showed me a JB internal memo which clearly states that it is not stackable. Luckily I got through after I argued about the ambigiuous T&C on JB website and they honoured it but I doubt they will do it again. It is not worth to take the risk now.

    • +3

just talked to JB live chat, they said all 3 promos should be able to stack for a pro
      1: $1400 off
2: $350 extra trade in bonus
      3: $350 gift card

So I reckon best deal is
      Pixel 10 Pro 512GB $2047
      - $350 (trade in bonus)
      - $320 (trade in value)
      - $1400
      = $0 ($350 GC)

with voucher repayment being $1000x23/24 as well as the $99 first month (can maybe be refunded) thatd be $1057.33

As opposed to outright purchase of 128GB
      Pixel 10 Pro 128GB $1697
      - $350 (trade in bonus)
      - $320 (trade in value)

      = $1027 ($350 GC)

      • +1

Isn't the $1400 for port-in only? Not for new numbers if you just plan on canceling.

        • Just buy cheap sim card like Aldi Mobile $5 with new number for porting if you want to use the plan deal.

      • +8

I just ported on 99 plan and preordered pixel 10 pro 256
        Used $350 trade in coupon,
        Used $60 trade in value+
        Got $1400 jb gift card
        Paid $37.00
        Got $350 GC
Also when I signed up cancelation charge was showing only 800 not 1000. Even the sales guy was surprised to see it.

@NaimAlad: First they sign you up for telsta $99 plan. Took 30 min . Pay $99 for the first month.

Then they create a docket for the Phone pre-order $1847 + handed over $1400 GC

Head to the counter , redeem your Trade-In coupon $350 first (they can't redeem coupon if you use the GC first)
            use the $1400 GC
Use your Trade in Value GC . Pay the difeereance.
Collect your $350 GC and smile :)

            • @BenjaminSesko: Do you have to give your trade in device right away or can post in 7 days time (as will need a phone until Pixel 10 Pro/XL) arrive?

              • +2

@jaboday423: You need to do trade-in online before heading to the store , but as per the email i have time till 28th Aug to arrange the shipping

            • @BenjaminSesko: Which JB Store did you go to?

            • @BenjaminSesko: Is the plan cancellation a total of 800 including the $99 first month? ie. You only have to pay 701 to cancel now?

        • Can you share which store (state, suburb - just to quote in another store to check cancellation charges - it would be helpful for everyone to understand the plan)

        • Hey do you already know the exact cancellation for the 99 plan? Is it 800 confirmed if I cancel straight away?

          • +1

@shanks43: while going through the signing up , mine was showing $800 insted of $1000

        • Is there a barcode in your email of $350 trade-in coupon? I only see the code, but no barcode. I did trade-in 2x as of now. Can we stake more than 1 trade-in coupons?

        • @listenam Have you got JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (as a bonus) Already?

"JB Hi-Fi gift card emailed within 2 weeks of pre-order or purchase being collected or delivered. For instore pre-orders and purchases, gift card provided in-store when pre-order or purchase product is collected"

          • @jaboday423: Yes. I got my GC today. I wasn't expecting to get it today.

            • @BenjaminSesko: Wow they told me I get the GC when I pick up. Maybe youll get a 2nd GC fingers crossed.

              • @Johche: They also told me I'll get it when the phone is delivered. Do you reckon I'll still get it if I cancel my plan?

                • @poKumon: cancelled by contacting Telstra directly.
Phone and gift card will be handled by JB Hi-Fi, so no fuss I hope so.

                  • @jaboday423: To be safe I'll wait till I got the phone and GC before cancelling the plan within the first month

                    • @poKumon: @poKumon that should be okay as well but you will be charged with first month.
In case if you want to try your luck to get $99 refund you can contact telstra within few hours or a day and request for $99 refund which should work (they would take a case and refund in 2-3 days as first month $99 will be in pending state and once they get they will refund - this would be case by case).

              • @Johche: Yes , you are right! I am luckly to get a second gift card today while collecting my P10pro

        • wow the cancellation charge is only 800? good deal. I assume this is online pre order?

        • @listenam thanks for sharing and appreciate your time for answering questions. Pre-ordered Google Pixel 10 Pro XL in similar fashion.
Pending pickup of device and $400 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card.

    • How does it work if your trade in makes the price negative?

  • +3

How much do we need to pay if we don't send in our trade-in device?

    • +1

      I have the same question…

      • Would be the cost of the phone if buying outright, then would get the gift card amount in the table above as a GC when you collect the phone.

If you get the phone plan:
        = Cost of Phone - 1400 (for Pro/Pro XL)

Then if you'd cancel in first month you'd pay the 99+ Voucher Fee (1000x(23/24) I believe) = 1057 total

So you'll end up paying 1057 + whatever you paid upfront

        For a Pro 128gb its 297 + 1057 - 1354 and still get the 350/400gift card

        • Looks like you are replying to another post mate. The question is when I add trade-in, let's say a $200 device, and use the bonus ($350), what happens if I don't send the trade-in device? Do they charge me $550? or just the device cost of $200? or $200+admin fee/non-return fee?

      • +3

JB Hi-Fi Customer Support (Live Chat)

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/tradein

You can get a quote of the value via this link. So, if you want a trade in value, you are required to add credit card details in order for the value of the trade in, to be held in funds and it will be released once the item is received and confirmed.

Or, you can send it the phone, then get a voucher after assessment.

If Assurant does not receive your device within 7 days of you being issued the JB Hi-Fi eGift Card, Assurant will process the payment on your card to the equivalent value of the JB Hi-Fi eGift Card.

    • +2

I think the bonus and trade value are issued in the same voucher, but will try later today and update here

      • I'm waiting til at least tomorrow as it says you need to send the phone in within 7 days and I need a phone for the next week.

      • +3

So you actually get a seperate coupon from JB hi-fi while the actual trade value is from 3rd party. The hold on your credit card is only for the trade value.

  • +2

Can anyone validate the following calculations and help others?

    Pixel 10 Pro XL – 256 GB

    Retail Price: $1,999

    With Trade In

Trade-in Bonus (Instant deduction at checkout): -$350

Trade-in Device (Pixel 6a with battery issue): -$85

The trade-in value is obtained via the JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Portal
    * To get the quote, you must provide:
    * IMEI number of the device
    * Valid photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License, Passport)
    * Bank card details

$85 is held on your bank card, and will be charged if the device is not sent within 7 days.

    Effective Price After Trade-in:

    $1,999 - $350 - $85 = $1,564

    Using Discounted Gift Cards

You can buy $1,550 worth of JB Hi-Fi gift cards at 10% off https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/920608 Pay only $1,395 and Save $155

Effective Price After Gift Card Savings:
    $1,564 - $155 = $1,409

Bonus JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (Pre-Sale Offer)

JB Hi-Fi is currently offering a $400 bonus gift card with the purchase.

Final Effective Price (assuming full use of the $400 gift card for current calculations even though gift card is allowed to be used in future purchases):
    $1,409 - $400 = $1,009

Or, if selling the $400 gift card for ~$350:
    $1,409 - $350 = $1,059

Note: The $400 gift card is issued separately and can only be used for future purchases.

Alternative Scenario: If Trade-In Device Is NOT Sent

If you do not send in the trade-in device, the $85 initially on hold will be deducted/ charged back to your bank card after 7 days.

    So, in this case:

    Effective Price Adjusted:
    $1,409 + $85 = $1,494

Final Price (after factoring in JB Hi-Fi bonus gift card):

    Calculating using full $400 gift card: $1,494 - $400 = $1,094

    If selling the gift card for ~$350: $1,494 - $350 = $1,144

Let me know if I’ve missed anything or if there’s an even better stacking method!

    • +2

If you are not planning to send the trade-in device, its better to find the cheapest option ($5 seems to be the cheapest) so you could pay the rest with discounted GC.

Also have you confirmed with JB if you don't send the device, you don't need to pay the $350 bonus?

      • +1

JB Hi Fi Customer Live Chat mentioned

Yes. They just won't return (the hold value on your card) the funds essentially.
Because you will have failed to send it the phone for the value of the voucher they've generated for the device value.
You're more than welcome to chat to Assurant directly though, as this isn't something we facilitate. More for any concerns that I may not be able to answer.

Can you share a device which is valued at $5? How do we provide an IMEI number (google imei generator)? Isn't it risky to provide fake IMEI when we are providing ID verification with Photo ID or Passport and then not sending it? Instead safe to provide our current device IMEI and then don't send it at all and get the value of the trade in voucher of the device charged?

  • If someone can please help me out to understand this. Let's say i want to buy pixel 10 pro 256. Which costs 2000.
My current phone I want to trade-in has value of 675, trade in bonus 350. Total $1025.

Then i go with 99 plan and get 1400 gift card, so total becomes 2425 to pay for 2000 phone. What will happen to 425 on top ? As i plan to cancel the 24months contract and pay (959+99) $1058.

I'll get 400 bonus gift card afterwards.

    • +1

Better check instore. My guess is they gave you a voucher for the remaining balance. I could be wrong I'm a noob.

    • +2

Trade in Value is is JB giftcard - you can use it fully or partially for this purchse
$1400 is also JB gift card , you can use it fully or parially .

so you should use your trade-in vocher first $350
Use your trade in gift card - 1025
Use a portion of the $1400 GC and balance you can use later plus you get another $350 GC

      • Is the trade in value a different GC to the GC for the trade in bonus $350?
Also what is the hold on your credit card only for the trade in value or a total of the value + 350 bonus?
Eg. if I trade in a phone for $10, will they charge my credit card for $10 or $360 ?
        Thanks

        • +2

Trade in bonus of $350 is a unique barcode which an be used towards the purchase of Pixel 10 phones only.
Trade in value is issued as a JB hifi E-Giftcard
I looked my creditcard transactions and I can see is a pending amount of $60 ( which was the trade-in value)

          • @BenjaminSesko: So this should confirm if we don't send the phone in they will just keep the trade in value right and not issue us another invoice for the trade in bonus.

            • +2

@shanks43: I guess so , but i remember from previous deals like they blacklist you so won't be able to use any of future trade-in promotions with JB

  • -2

Here’s the step‑by‑step maths behind that $2,059 first‑month exit figure, using the assumptions we’ve locked in:

1️⃣ Start with the phone’s retail price
    • Pixel 10 Pro XL 1 TB RRP: $2,547

2️⃣ Subtract all the up‑front value you’re keeping
    • JB gift card bonus: –$400
    • Trade‑in bonus: –$350
    • Trade‑in value for your old phone: –$795
      Total bonuses/credits: $400 + $350 + $795 = $1,545

$2,547 – $1,545 = $1,002 ← this is your net handset cost after instant credits

3️⃣ Add the month 1 plan cost
    • $99 for the first month’s Telstra plan

    $1,002 + $99 = $1,101

4️⃣ Add the early exit voucher repayment
    • Max repayment = $1,000, pro‑rated over 24 months
    • Cancelling after month 1 = 23/24ths owed
    • $1,000 ÷ 24 ≈ $41.67 per unused month
    • 23 × $41.67 ≈ $958.33

    $1,101 + $958.33 = $2,059.33

Total true cost: $2,059 (rounded to nearest dollar)
That’s the absolute floor under these rules — any extra month adds $99 in plan fees but only cuts ~$41.67 off the repayment, so the total climbs steadily from here.

    • What about the 1400 off with Telstra plan ?

      • Here’s how it would look for the Pixel 10 Pro XL 1 TB with your other assumptions:

        📦 Step‑by‑Step
        1. **Retail price: ** $2,547
        2. Instant Telstra plan discount: ** –$1,400
→ New handset price at checkout: **$1,147
        3. **Subtract other up‑front credits: **
          • JB gift card: –$400
          • Trade‑in bonus: –$350
          • Trade‑in value: –$795
            **Total extra credits: ** $1,545

Since $1,545 in credits is more than the $1,147 you’re paying for the phone, you’re effectively $398 ahead on the handset itself before plan fees or claw back.

💰 Month 1 Early Exit (with $1,000 max voucher repayment)
        • Plan fee: $99
        • Voucher repayment: $958.33 (23/24ths of $1,000)
        • Net handset “profit”: –$398 (credits exceed phone cost)

        Total true cost:
        $99 (plan) + $958.33 (repayment) – $398 (handset surplus)
= $659.33 out of pocket for the whole maneuver.

        • Hi @MJ99YT

I hope you would not mind me following up with your calculation.

Do you or any friendly OZ Bargainers know what the negative balance ($398 ahead here) will look like in real life?

Will JB Hi-Fi provide a Gift Card honouring the balance?

Also, for a product like "Pixel 10 Pro 128GB", the combined discount of the Telstra plan and trade-in bonus ($1,400 + $350 = $1,750) has already surpassed the RRP ($1,697) by $53, before considering the trade-in value.

Would a customer essentially forfeit the difference?

Thank everyone for answering in advance.

    • Not sure why you got downvoted; was there any calculation error in your flow?
      I found it very useful.

      • He forgot the $1400 off lol which is the whole point of the sim deal.

  • Can anyone confirm if the early exit/termination fees of the contract will be the same regardless of whether I go for the 10 pro or the 10 pro xl? Some saying $800 and others reporting $1000. Anyone has a confirmed number as that is our out of pocket cost right?

As per JB it's $1000 however you are signing a contract with Telstra . During the sign up process, it shows the terms and conditions of this contract including the cancellation fee and it displayed $800 for me. Even the JB guy was surprised to see $800. So I am not sure its just being lucky or it's just $800 for everyone.

Just checked the JB mobile App and it shows $800 Gift card and 23 month remaning . Also it says $766.59 Voucher repayment if you cancel or downgrade.

      • Can we use 400 gift card to pay contract cancellation?

my guess is NO as the GC is from JB and cancellation fee to be paid to Telstra.

          • @BenjaminSesko: Yep this. Telstra will bill you on your Telstra payment method/card. You can't pay Telstra with JB GC.

      • @BenjaminSesko: I like your name! Hoping he scores tonight and United win!

Lets hope a good good win and a decent season ahead.

  • Can someone please confirm if they could successfully apply all the vouchers and gift cards?
There is a $1400 discount for porting in, $350+trade-in value and $400 gift card (which arrives later).
If all above applies I should be able to get Pixel 10 Pro XL 512GB for $1094.33:

    Pixel 10 Pro XL 512GB:
    $2197 - $1400 (port-in) - $350 (trade-in bonus) - $10 (trade-in device value) + $1000*23/24 (plan cancellation) + $99 first month plan fee = $1494.33 and with the $400 gift card my final out of pocket will be $1094.33.

Looks right here. You might get $99 back too via Telstra for first month cancellation but it is a roll of the dice.

Could also be less if ETF is $800 and not $1000.

  • Can I port in a new number onto an existing account?

Or do I have to be a brand new jbhifi mobile customer

    • If you just want to do the plan cancellation then get a cheap SIM and port in. Don't use your real primary number.

Got 10 Pro 128 thanks OP. Trade in $600 odd for P9P XL 256GB. $350 GC coming in 3 weeks as I ordered online. Instant $350 off via trade in bonus too.

I cbf getting another SIM and doing the $1400 port in thing. Happy with the above.

  • I put the trade in order and got the $350 coupon code for Pixel 10 Pro/XL
But it was not able to stack with the $1400 SIM offer. I'm not doing an outright purchase
Now not sure what to do with the code.

    • You need to sign up at the store. Also while making the payement , use the trade in coupon first then the gift cards. If you use the giftcards first , the system won't allow to enter the coupon code. They had to cancel the docket and generate new one and process the coupon first.

      • They clearly said it can't be stacked together.
        They were aware of this
You will be lucky if the person is not aware

        • @NaimAlad: Since you already have a trade in coupon can you try this method of using trade in coupon first and then 1400 coupon to see how it goes. This will help everyone to use it in right way if it works :)

          • @jaboday423: I already tried but the person at checkout was aware that these 2 deals can't stack together. You can only get away if person at counter new staff and not aware about.

            • @NaimAlad: @NaimAlad probably head to another store and show the order in which it is supposed to work. Let us know how it goes :P

              • @jaboday423: You can't try that.. you sign up and pay $99 plan and then go to the counter to pay where you apply. The person sign you up for plan most likely aware about this but the person at checkout might not. If person at checkout is also aware then you can't do anything because you already signed up for plan. I hope this makes sense

                • @NaimAlad: @NaimAlad if the persons are easy going it should work right?

Also what have you done now, considering you had signed up for $99 plan already :|

                  • @jaboday423: Can't do anything.. it's what it is. If I can manage to sell my $350 coupon that would help to save some cost

                    • @NaimAlad: @NaimAlad sorry to hear this. Your inputs might help others as well.

Can you also share if some inputs for a new sim signup (aldi/ other cheap sim) as most wouldn't want to use primary number to port.

                    • @NaimAlad: That's very sad. JB team at my local store was very helpful including the store manager who helped to cancel the initial docket as the coupon need to apply first before GCs. I interacted with 4 JB staff at the store and everyone tried to help me.

  • The trade-in values are a joke. Even with the $350 bonus, you’d get more selling your phone on FB Marketplace. The bonus is nice, but the actual trade-in offer is way low, especially if your phone’s got a few scratches or scuffs. They are offering $19 for my fully working P8Pro with slightly cracked glass. Feels like they’re trying to make it look good on paper, but in reality you might be better off selling privately.

    • Pretty sure you don't have to send it in and you can sell it on Marketplace if you want. You'll still get the trade in bonus.

      • Can they make you repay the trade in bonus?

        • I don't think so but to be honest I'm not 100% sure.
