    Yeah,nah.

  • +45

Still so expensive, terrible app that is painful to use.

    • Agreed!

    • -2

      This!

    • +40

Lol. Expensive compared to what? $15 per month for every game of NRL, AFL,NBL, F1 & a reasonable amount of American sport with ESPN & ESPN 2.

If you have no interest in sport, then fine, but we don't see people complaining on deals because they don't use the particular product.

Kayo is objectively, not "expensive" and $10pm off is a deal.

      • +1

        I agree.

      • Yeap, great value. I share basic with two others as it's rare we are all on at the same time so only costs us $6.66 a month each. For F1, MotoGP (all classes), AFL………can't complain.

      • +1

Just lost beIN sports, who knows what other channels Fox will lose over the next 12 months.

      • No soccer

        • Correct. Kayo don't have all sports. Soccer is with Optus or even Stan depending on which League you follow.

    • +2

Use the Kayo add-on for Kodi.

Much faster interface and plays at the correct frame-rate so no stutter!

Previous deal expired June 16. Looks like it has effectively been extended. I’ll make a new account in August to take advantage of it. Cheers.

    • Would a new phone number be required to make another account?

      • +1

        Yes.

  • +1

Rubbish content these days. What was the Mecca has become Kuta

    • +3

Its the same content its been for a few years? What content have they dumped?

Also agreed with others app is a pain to use, if you pause and exit to do something you have to start the program again to load, uses a stack of data, the only recent update they did add recently atleast allows for background running

  • +17

Waiting for a Kayo Turkey [VPN Required] deal. One can dream.

Until then, it's not a bargain.

    • +1

I've been using ssportsplus (https://www.ssportplus.com/) for a while now. Sign up with the code "YILLIKLOCA " and it's 280 TRY ie a touch over $17 AUD for the first year (after that is 360 TRY ie $22 AUD). Is very picky about the vpn you use, but not too bad in general. Slightly annoying in that the F1 commentary is in Turkish but if you want can watch it muted and listen to the commentary via the BBC. Almost everything else such as NBA, NFL, etc is dual language.

      • +1

        And Aussie sports?

        • -2

Not as such, but they did have the Power Slap League which is kinda the same thing? Just joking.

      • Dam it…. I only use it for the F1 cos I have a NBA subscription

      • Is VPN required to watch or only to sign up - if sign up only this is a bargain in it's own right!

        • Need the vpn to sign up and to watch, so yeah - not ideal. Also you can only watch on one device at a time ie no concurrent streams. Still reckon it's a bargain though. Been using it for 6 months now without any major hitch other than having to switch vpn servers when they blacklist one - I toggle between nordvpn and fastestvpn, with fastestvpn generally being the most reliable. The cool thing is the F1 stream seems to run for ages both before and after the race, and they also stream the practise and quali sessions.

          • @PlasticSpaceman: Ok - Yes not ideal - but at this price may be worth it still
I am mostly after the NBA games - Do they show them all do you know?

            • @Noblejoker: They seem to have quite a few, but no idea if the have them all. Frankly I doubt it - there are a lot of games after all! They have "NBA TV" along with a stack of replays of various matches for the playoffs, finals, etc if that helps. Oh, also have a number of dedicated sport channels - at the moment one is showing a Miami vs Denver replay (no Turkish commentary). I have watched a few games, but for the most part I'm interested in F1 followed by the occasional NFL game and for that I'm happy to pay the (approx) $1.50 per month and deal with the hassle of vpns. Also watch the occasional offbeat thing like for example they have monster jam on now - but unfortunately that has Turkish commentary over the American voices and no option to switch it off. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some shows are in English, others have multi language so can toggle between English and Turkish, some are Turkish only, and some have Turkish subtitles that can either be toggled on/off or are hard coded…. I guess you get what you pay for!

    • Waiting for a Kayo Turkey

      Yum !!!

      With stuffing…

      • +2

If it's a KO turkey, the stuffing has been…knocked out of it.

        • BA DUM tssshhh

  • +1

Haven't even got the Ashes. I've been watching the mostly ad-free coverage from Sky Sports UK for free on my Android TV boxes, including my VTV that hasn't got the Kayo app because they won't cater for older Android versions. I won't be renewing my el cheapo subscription when it expires. It's hardly worth the five bucks I pay.

    • +4

How are you accessing the Sky coverage? I'm sick of Channel 9s ads after every over already and it's only been 2 days.

      • +2

Torrent live streaming using Acestream mostly but I also have IPTV apps and Kodi addons with sports channels. Reddit is the place to look.

        • How does Acestream work?

    • +2

I didn't realise the coverage was free - looking at Sky Sports UK info now and it seems to be a paid service?

    • +1

      Haven't even got the Ashes.

And yet if Foxtel got it and it wasn’t on FTA ….

      • +1

Yep same as the Supercars debacle 7-8 years ago. All of the noise was about how the fans missed out on the action on FTA and none of them would ever consider paying for Foxtel.

The fact is that the coverage on Foxtel ever since has been 1000% better than FTA ever was.

      • I only subscribed to Kayo for the cricket because Foxtel hijacked white ball games and put them behind a paywall, like every every other major sport in this country. It has prompted me to seek and find alternatives, though.

    • +4

If you are looking for a legal (use of country excluded) way to watch ad free coverage of the Ashes, Spark Sport in NZ are offering it for no cost this month. Works on both PIA and DNS4Me, and probably most other VPNs that offer a NZ end point. No ads (not even in the lunch and afternoon tea stops). They also don't have the digitally inserted on ground advers (like Merlin and bet365). Spark Sport shuts down at the end of the month, and TVNZ is likely to pick up the coverage.

      • +2

Thanks for the Spark Sport NZ tip. I had to side load an apk (thanks Matt Huisman). So far the quality is great via Nord VPN. I haven’t tried without a VPN yet. No ads between overs :D

      • +1

Brilliant! It's got highlights and full replays on demand, too.

      • +1

Just want to say, Spark Sport has been sensational. Thanks so much for the tip. I actually think it could warrant its own deal.

Works with Surfshark VPN, in case anyone is curious. (On the PC - no idea how to set a VPN up on a Chromecast or Google TV, personally.)

Channel 9's half-arsed ad-ridden coverage is abominable. Kerry Packer must be rolling in his grave.

    • Kayo can be sideloaded to VTV.
Stupid that it works perfectly fine, but you have to jump through a couple of hoops to get it working.

  • Never been happier since cancelling my Kayo 6 months ago. It did force me to look for alternatives and I'm now $120 happier. This did tempt me i must admit.

  • +1

if you want two screens the western bulldogs membership is cheaper

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755257

now that the NBA has wrapped up, kayo becomes less attractive…but still has F1 and is real handy for watching AFL/NRL on delay

split 2 screens with a trusted mate or familiy member and you have a tad over $9 pm each

    • all AFL and NRL matches are available live? Why are yours delayed.

      • +1

Yeah I think he means being able to watch the game from the start at any time

        • being able to watch the game from the start at any time

Which you can't do with Foxtel Now…

      • Mine are delayed from 15-45 seconds. I don't think kayo is live.. Live. Foxtel satellite is. Internet I do not belive is yet.

    • +1

Cheaper if you commit for the 12 months

    • Can add a third screen as well for $7.50 a month extra

  • $15 for 3 screens is doable. These "specials" aren't worth it.

  • How long does the points take to come?

    • +1

I'll let you know when I receive them

  • +6

If you do a search on duckduckgo for "free live sport streams" the first result will be a certain web site which does exactly what it claims. You will need a good ad blocker and quite a bit of patience closing all the obnoxious tabs and windows it attempts opening on you, but eventually you can watch and cast almost any sport imaginable live and free.

    • +12

Yeah duck that. There is a price I'm willing to pay for just being able to watch sports. Even if the app is total garbage

    • There’s add ons using kodi for sports too. With free comes the cost of reliability and quality. Though Kayo isn’t the most reliable service ime. I would use a vpn if you are accessing these streams. I enjoyed the ~90 second fight today. :)

  • +2

Only thing I really watched was F1.. Miss not watching it, but even at $15 for that, not VFM.
Anyone have other sources/sites for F1 streaming?

    • Same boat … wish there was a decent alternative.

      • Get together with Maz78. One stream each for $10 a month.

    • Last year you could sail the seas and find all pratice, qualify, race sessions usually only 12 hours after live if you dont mind watching on delay.

Haven't looked this year but I doubt it's changed

      • you can get all that live without subscription using kayo freebie

    • F1 tv

    • As above - ssportplus via Turkey. Roughly $1.50 per month, need to find a vpn service that works (fastestvpn generally works for me) and need to separately listen to the commentary via the bbc if you're not fluent in Turkish (although my daughter and I have kinda got used to his excited shouting).

    • RIP hendo and his mates

  • I'm guessing I can't cancel and resub to get the deal?

    • I’d be keen to know if too if this can be done. Also if it can be combined with Kayo gift cards ($100 gift cards for $85 at Costco)

      • +2

It can be combined with gift cards. You need to sign up via the Qantas link first and during sign up you have to add a credit card but can also add a gift card at the same time to be deducted from first. I did this last week and used a swap from Shop Back.

    • Buy a $5 SIM from Aldi and create a new account. That's what I did.

      • Why not a $2 SIM from Telstra?

        Why pay 250% more?

        • Most of the $2 SIM cards I saw at Coles and Woollies had text similar to "recharge required to activate". Is that not the case with Telstra SIMs?

          • @dazweeja:

Is that not the case with Telstra SIMs?

            no.

            • @jv: Thanks. I'll use one of those next time.

    • Yes if you create a new Kayo account (requires new phone number for SMS verification). Not sure if you need a new Qantas FF account if you’ve used this deal previously.

  • They don't even have Ashes this time round. Nor did they broadcast the WTC final.

    • Fortunately both are/were FTA.

  • +3

    Not even 4K footy.

    • Funny you mention that. I remem in WA when the TV stations started broadcasting hd. They started with high bit rate 720p which was exceptional and then they switch to lower bit rate and then 1080i. I hate interlace. Remem seven broadcasting footy and detail was crisp and after the downgrade couldn't see the ball well at all. They were going places with the initial quality idea and it must of been the costs of broadcasting at high bit rate and p. They should kill all the TV stations that ain't 1080p now.

  • Thanks for sharing. Got the premium plan and share with my mates

  • +3

They have 4k footy, they just choose not to stream it and force people to hook up a satellite while having a perfectly good broadband connection

    • Yeah, that's the crime. NRL/AFL don't care except for the money. Imagine of they charged say $2/mth to stream 4k. Most would pay it.

  • Nice deal, but not a fan of Kayo. It has adverts and you also get forced every sport when, say, all I want to watch is Motorsports and MMA. Too much noise to signal.

  • I cancelled Kayo years ago and it doesn't seem to let me sign up as a new customer

    • +1

Use the web browser version had the same issue the other week on my phone

      • I've tried, but I'm trying to use the same phone number and it says I've already got an account. Ah well

        • Need a new phone number for a new account.

  • +1

It's actually a fantastic price for the amount of live sport you get. However the UI on the apps and even the browser site is absolutely horrendous. It's an absolute punish to use, but for that content it's something you have to put up with.

    • I've been forced to listen to live audio broadcast for afl games cause I can't get live streaming

      • cause I can't get live streaming

sounds like you have an issue with your ISP.

I stream AFL all the time on Kayo and it works great.

  • +1

Apart from watching channels, what's so bad about the UI? Androids & IOS are simple. Even my 80yo old man can manage it.

    • +4

The row layout (with landscape cards?!) is unintuitive and it's really hard to find a specific sport/show you want to watch

      • -1

        Andorid & IOS phone
Down the bottom it has a menu

        Home, Fixtures, shows, sport

You select one and you find it.
I've setup favourite (sports & teams).
I did the same for the old man.

Android TV, you press up & get the same menu.

For either you select Sports and it has

PPV, AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Motorsport, etc.

        Of you select says AFL
        It has rows of

        Live & upcoming
        Replay
        Shows
        Kayo Mini's

Then a heap of other crap.

        Do you get something different?

        • +4

Agreed. Only takes me a sec to find what I want. It's not that hard once you set your favourites and use menu.
My biggest grip is lack of a "continue playback" option. Stupid that it starts from the beginning if stopped midway.

          • +1

@Borg: This is my biggest gripe by far. Still worth it, but it should absolutely remember where you left off.

  • Does this need a Qantas frequent flyer account?

    • Yes, they are free.

      • You should post it!
