Have seen them on eBay for as much as $95 a 1kg bag..

        .

        • Oh wow, that's my local. what are the odds?

    • +1

Nice, I picked up a few bags from local my Big W.

      • i think i saw penrith, nsw only having stock in sydney?

  • +4

    showing $5.99 shipping for me

    • Same and the code only takes 5% off instead of 20%

  • +1

Discount code does not apply 20% off, and they charge for shipping

  • +1
    • +19

Pretty sure this is why the OP posted this deal

    • +2

they said they are still going to make them until some time in July, so more stock coming out

    • -1

Not sure why you were downvoted, valid post?

      • +1

Read above, OP didn't just post this out of pure coincidence.

        • -1

He didn't put that in the notes though and some people may not have been aware?

  • Postage isn't showing as free, and that code isn't giving 20% off either, looks to be 5%

  • Yes postage is not free and there is no 20% off either

  • Bugger, the store has fixed the free delivery and removed the promo code, sorry crew

  • -4

they don't last forever you know its chocolate it will go off if you don't eat them all.

But yeah I did the same thing when they got rid of plastic straws I bought like 10,000 of them so I could continue to use them.

    • +1

I still have an Easter egg from 1999
It hasn't gone off, just discoloration

      • -1

From where would you know? Have a taste! Do it!

      • It some of it and tell me it's still fine.

    • I could eat a kg a day I think.

  • I heard they were discontinuing these. I think I saw a news article. Is that true?

    • It is sadly.

    • Yep, probably going like Starbursts

      • +3

        Apparently Hi-Chew is better anyway.

      • +1

        They stopped making Starburst?!

        • the square soft ones that were individually wrapped, yeah :( :( :(

        • Tbf star burst got kicked out of colesworth due to use of artificial colours, they made the best soft lollies too way better than Allen’s/NCC but can’t really blame em for calling it quits when they weren’t going to be stocked in the major supermarkets.

    • Yes, I posted the news article above

    • I was editing to say it is but you guys were so quick

    • +5

I think it is publicity/marketing campaign. They will make more money from people wanting to buy more and then later say due high demands, we'll bring this product back.

      • +1

Probably not. In this case they mentioned the machine that makes them is breaking down and getting too expensive to fix. They’re not willing to invest in a new machine as sales are declining.

        • If they sell more stock in 1 month then they do a whole YEAR of production … i can grantee you that they will fix the machine one more time to at least run it a few more months

        • Why not license the brand to a more boutique candy maker?

          • @AustriaBargain: They probably want us to go without for a few years, so they can revive it later, and have another surge in sales from the hype.

  • +3

    collectable item

  • +3

Grabbed 10, I'm gonna be rich!

  • Do these still take the same as they did 20 years ago or have they changed the recipe?

    • +4

      changed

Like every lolly it's mostly indistinguishable from others now.

Every time I look at "chicos" I think "what did they do you :( "

    • changed, not as hard as they used to be, which is why I haven't been buying them. Can still get Fyna Mates (a bit like the old cobbers), although I am unsure how hard these ones are and how good. I was thinking of getting some to try. I love Reisen (hard choc caramel that is coated with a darker choc than the fantales, German Company Storck), but Aldi doesn't stock them anymore (since covid)….but way too expensive through Amazon.

      • They probably got sued for breaking children's teeth, much like minties and redskins.

  • Hmm, anyone else read this as Alien Fantasies

    • +4

      no

      • Username does not checkout

    • +1

You need go to the spec savers post

  • Delivery is only free for 'metro'. $5.99 for 3153 (outer east melb burbs) but $0 for 3000.

I still ordered a couple of bags anyway. $16/kg delivered is good enough.

only got $1.40 discount too so about 5%.

  • +1

today years old when i learned nestlé owns allens

    • Friday years old?

  • +1

Been heaps of news coverage on this, but are they planning to sell the IP/trademark/recipe? No journalist bothered to ask. Never really liked them, but was curious when I read the story.

    • +2

What I suspect or they'll just bring them back in X years' time as a limited edition, sell a bunch now as a run out and sell a bunch later as a limited edition… supply and demand, nostalgia and FOMO will drive future sales - and they'll probably sell more than they do when they are readily available.

    • Of course not. Let it die so others can't use it is the normal way of business :(
Worth more to them not being used by someone else.

    • If they were profitable they wouldn't be discontinuing them.

      • +2

They’d be profitable, they’re just making way for something more profitable.

  • +9

If you're nostalgic for these, I suggest you stay that way. They changed the taste of them a few years ago and now they are nowhere as good as they used to be, which is probably why nobody buys them anymore and they're being deleted.

    • +3

Yep. I had some about a month ago after years of not having them and wondered why they tasted so bad. i thought they were off so bought a different bag, but sadly the new bag was the same bad taste. Recipe has def changed. They prob switched to lower quality ingredients to cut costs.

      • +2

Haha product tasted like crap so you bought another, excellent play.

        • " i thought they were off" there you go…

    • +2

Ah, the tried and true "lets make them cheaper to make" over and over until no one buys them and "times have changed". Time does change for some things though. E.g. minties were shit.

  • Ordered 2 bags, only $1.40 discount, not 20%

  • +2

It'll cost more than $13.96 to get that filling replaced

    • +1

na, not like the used to be, nowhere near as hard, same as the Minties

  • +1

20% off with Minimum order of $25

love fantails, but I do not support Nestle

    • What did nestle do to you?

      • +8

They market infant formula in an unethical way in the developing world, with the outcome that some babies have undoubtedly died, and they have been involved in, and lobbied for, the privatization of water utilities in many countries with the outcome that costs for water in those communities rose substantially.
I’m personally impacted because they are gross business practices, that are harmful to people, so I don’t buy Nestle stuff (giving up Milo was hard, and we still buckle and get a can once a year).

  • +2

Bought two bags, doubt they will arrive.

    • Yeah I bought 10 and I'm expecting cancellation.

  • For those of you who have not heard the news. Nestle has discontinued making this iconic confectionary item due to poor sales.

    • +6

you're about the 4th person in this thread to say that

      • you know just making sure we get the word out there lol

        • OP should have put it in the description.

    • +2

      It's a shame nestle doesn't discontinue itself.

  • +1

What about Big Boss Cigars. Do they still taste the same?

    https://www.confectioneryworld.com.au/big-boss-candy-cigars-…

    • +1

Wow, been passively looking for those for years. Assumed they were gone.

    • Depends if eat them or smoke them

  • Loosening or removing fillings?

    Hold my beer…

Legit these were the things my parents used to shift those pesky loose teeth when we were children

In America they would have started a class action over how bad these were for teeth….

Fantales can safely go into the tip of history

What needs reviving (BADLY): Nabisco Coffee Scrolls - if a tasty coffee scroll biscuit with pink icing in the centre (if you nibbled around this and ate it last you were doing it right) triggers memories, then you're remembering it pefectly. Ive made several versions of internet recipes but still havent quite nailed it….

  • Has anyone actually bought from sunshinebazaar before? I doubt they have any stock left and just haven't updated the listing.

  • I got 4x 1KG bags from Winc today for the office. Can't remember how much I paid but they had 580+ in stock when I ordered.

  • RIP party loot bags

  • +2

I lost a filling eating these but if your teeth are perfect, chew away.

  • +4

It's funny how we always chose against them because there are better lollies, now we want it because it appears scarce.

  • +1

Probably like John Farnham's final tour, sudden spurt of interest keeps the dream alive.

  • This seems very sketchy the website states free delivery and now they don't even offer that on any items? Seems like a bait and switch lok

    • Free metro delivery, But their ‘metro’ seems to be just melb CBD.

Their shipping does seems to be capped though so could order 50x1kg bags for $5.99 delivery.

  • good way of getting people to buy them to say they are no more

  • My whole order was cancelled which had 1 bag of Fantales and some other small stuff… anyone actually get some shipped?

    • Same

      • same. didn't get a refund either. Have logged a fraud claim with my bank

  • +3

    Mine said:

    Sunshinebazaar.com
    Hi
Your order was tagged PAYPAL Medium-risk by our system and we had to cancel and refund the order. If you want you can reorder through debit ,credit card or afterpay

    Looks dodgy to me!!

    • just got the same email.

    • Got the same email, switched payment method and got this further email:

      Hai [sic]
Our delivery system was interrupted last week. So we refund your amt as a discount coupon. You can use this discount coupon on your next order.
      sorry for the inconvenience.

So they’re refunding me as a voucher??
Has anyone actually had a delivery of these? Think I’ll give up.

  • +1

Mine got cancelled as fraud risk because I used PayPal. No free shipping anymore. Feels like a scam to get out of free shipping

    • I used paypal and no cancellation, yet. Order confirmation email received from sunsinebazaar.

      I paid $5.99 shipping

    • +1

I had the same message. Funny that as it's the first time it's ever happened so I'm calling BS. They suggested they'd accept the order if you paid by credit card directly so now it seems suspiciously like a phishing scam.
FYI - I paid for shipping too.
