My C7 from 2018 got some burn in on the area where subtitle show up. OLED is too expansive to only work well for 4 years. Next TV I buy will be either Mini LED or QLED but I advise to stay away from OLED.

    • +13

they have come a long way since the c7 friend

      • +17

That's what I've heard when I bought the C7 "burn in is not an issue", "the tv will break before way before you see any signs of burn in".
People can downvote as much as they want, I'm just telling my experience after spending $$$ on this TV for the best image and thinking it would last a lot longer than it did. No more OLED for me but go ahead and buy OLED if you want.

Also OLED is not as bright in a sunlight room which makes the viewing experience not great. I'd go Mini LED all the way today, great contrast and much better brightness without the risk o burn in and for less money.

        • thk for the advice, my new 65" tv will be QLED

          • +8

@sltsta1: Don't listen to the C7 guy. I have two B9's (spec down from C9) cause I got one for mum and dad. 4 years on and neither have burn in. 120hz gaming, 4k and hdr. Best tv I've ever had. I can only imagine what a new LG is like.

I did my research years ago on RTING's, anyone buying tvs, headphones or speakers should go there first and currently they are not recommending QLEDs due to burn in testing they are doing at the moment: https://youtube.com/watch?v=my1lyUE7WVM&feature=share8

            • +4

@Winters Claw: Always the same trend - someone with a newer panel that hasn’t hit burn in yet telling another with an older panel that has burn in that it won’t happen to anyone else.

4 years is right on the edge of when people start usually start to get it

            • +2

@Winters Claw: Since you mentioned RING's you can see the burn in test of the CX here https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/cx-oled#test_16344 check out the "Accelerated Longevity Test". It's also written very clearly there "Permanent Burn-In Risk: Yes"

The C2 released in 2022 went through the same Longevity Test and also got burn in https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c2-oled#test_16344 if you chose the "50% Gray" and click on the image to zoom in the CNN logo on the lower right is starting to appear.

To be fair if we didn't watch a lot of content with subtitles at home perhaps I'd have never got burn in. Regardless it's just matter of time, I'd rather not buy something this expensive and have the risk. Better safe than sorry.
When I see OLED working after 10 years without burn in I might consider again, until then my next TV will be MiniLED (thanks for the reference on the QLED, I'm not getting that anymore either).

There is a good description of different TV technologies here for people looking to buy their next TV -> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/06/lcd-vs-led-vs-mini-l…

              • +1

@ooooooooyeahhhhh: Yes this is a very important note about the accelerated tests - the grey burn-in test. I am amazed people gloss over this point. I am in the exact same boat, I watch varied content, but cannot part with $2.5-3.5k if it only lasts 5-6 years. My 50” plasma after 12 yrs has given up now. So for the same price around $3k back then it lasted 12 years.

I’m torn between OLED and the other options

        • I needed to buy TV in 2018 due to last LG TV packed up after 10 years and was looking around and wasn't still convince that OLED will not have burn-in issue.

Hence, I went with LG nanocell TV and have 0 regrets.

        • Where do you get your subtitled content from? Is subtitled content from SBS ok? The subtitles on SBS comes up as a bright yellow text; however, they frequently change so I would have thought that would eliminate burn in risk.

        • +3

Well I'm still with a 2010 LCD Bravia Sony 46" that TV just won't die

          • @neonlight: Built to last - I’m happy to spend good money if we get the same value as we did back then.

I was about to buy the 65” S95B - then you read about bent panels on a $2K+ tv, seriously!

        • JBs extended warranty covers “image retention” aka burn ins, I usually buy this whenever I buy an OLED. Have three at home and yet to see any burn in but not 4 years old yet.

    • +3

Did you try to get the panel replaced with LG?

      • Yep LG will fix it

        • -2

For a price not under warranty

          • +8

@ooooooooyeahhhhh: Did you ask? mention ACL to them as I'm sure you spent $$$ on it.
I got my C9 panel replaced for free out of warranty.

            • +8

@theguyrules: Can confirm - my B7's panel was replaced for free literally yesterday by LG.
I just mentioned the ACL and LG's previous claim that its OLEDs would last 30,000 hours or 10 years without suffering defects.

          • +2

@ooooooooyeahhhhh: We had our B8 panel replaced not long ago way outside of warranty, for free. You clearly have no experience with LG customer support, they are fantastic.

            • @j1nx: Our B8 has rather bad burn-in and after seeing this thread thought I'd give it a go. Just got denied them fixing it as it is out of warranty.

"We note that the Manufacturer’s Warranty has expired. We have considered the Australian Consumer Lawand given the age of your TV. LG considers that the product has been of acceptable quality for a reasonable period of time. As such the consumer guarantees no longer apply and LG does not believe that it is liable to provide you with a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law."

              • @Forphucsake: What age is the TV, and how many hours on the panel?

    • +15

Its not as bad as buying a regular TV and wishing it would die already so you can buy an OLED once you discover true blacks.

      • Sure if you go for a lower end model, but no one buying a top of the range MiniLED is going to be saying that though

      • FALD has true blacks as well, OLED cant be used as monitor

        • Says who, i have a 42" C2 as a monitor and wouldnt go back to my Acer XB323UGP… so many others using 42" and 48" as monitors too..

          • @Woody982: You're ten times more prone to burning in

            • @nikoris: It's very unlikely ill get burn in. Even if i do, ill just get it replaced… Australia has very good policies and it doesnt matter if its in warranty or not. Theres nothing to fear…

    • +10

All OLED TVs get burn in eventually. It's inherent to the technology and just a matter of when.

I've observed consistent themes where old OLED owners get affected by burn in and complain about it. New owners have no burn in and say they aren't affected (yet) and the image quality is awesome so what are you complaining about? The new models have solved burn in.

The main way they've prevented burn in is by being new models. Of course a 2yo OLED doesn't have burn in. OLED is heaven until it turns to hell, and you just enjoy it while you can. Just don't tell people burn in is not a thing any more. It's easy to be dismissive of it when you've never seen it.

      • +4

I'm still using a B8 and can't see any burn in yet. Love the picture.

        • Same I've got a B8 65" in my Theatre and the panel is close to 6000 hours. I absolutely love the picture, black on black is still mind blowing and I've had it for 4 years! Dolby Vision still looks great and paired with my NVIDIA shield I can't fault functionality.

          • +1

@SoTightEcoLPI: Same. I see these new reviews for later models and wonder how they can actually be better? It's a perfect picture!

      • Friend's LG C2 OLED has clocked more than 3,500 hours, no burn-in.

One person's 2 years of a few hours per week is another's few hours per day. Hours clocked - via the menu screen is best measure. 3,500 hours is about 4 hours every day for more than 2 years.

Nice-sounding feature on the C2 is the "pixel cleaning" function. Not seen that in use myself, but good to have user friendly utility functions related to maintenance.

    • what would a good quality C7 sell for 2nd hand these days ?

      • +3

The second hand OLED market is another interesting study in psychology. While tons of current owners say not to worry about burn in when someone publicly says they're thinking of buying a second hand OLED they get bombarded with 'only a fool would buy a second hand OLED because of burn in' comments.

The mentality seems to be that any Oled you are personally involved with is safe, all the others have probably not been looked after and are therefore risky.

I expect a C7 would be pretty cheap these day, depending on hours viewed. The LG X6 models were quite popular with some people due to their 3D support (which looks SENSATIONAL on Oled).

    • +1

I have a C7 which I got 2nd hand . No burn in issues for me and its on everyday. I am though very concious to watch out static or content within the screen such as news banners or sub text etc for extended period. Maybe thats helped or maybe im lucky dunno.

    • +1

How many hours on your panel?

    • I bought Lg OLED 55"" B7 in 2018 and nothing wrong with it until now, beautiful screen.

    • Can you please share how many hours of use you TV has. I think you can pull that data from the TV.

    • Thanks for this VERY important feedback, enough to make me wait!

    • That's what you get for being an early adopter of a new technology. I always wait a few years (ok, to be fair, it's mostly because of the price).

  • i am waiting 100 inch at this price, then i can replace my projector

    • +1

Yep, same. I adore OLED, picture quality is unmatched, but man, once you've beamed at 120"+, it's hard to go back to regular TV sizes haha

      • -1

Completely disagree! My brother had a 135" screen with a 12k projector… Colours and clarity were no where near that of an OLED TV - and that was comparing to a C8…

He has since sold the projector setup and wants to get a bigger OLED tv, think hes waiting till the 97" comes down to a reasonable price.

And ive recently upgraded from that 65" C8 to a 83" C2. Now he has the 65" C8 lol.

    • -2

      offtopic

      • actually it’s bang on topic - would you rather a 65” OLED or a 85” QLED or something similar..

Visually (filling your peripheral view impact vs quality on a smaller screen)

Professional cinema doesn’t have the contrast of OLED but it has the wow factor due to the size/immersive experience

        • To a degree yes, but see comment above. Bigger screen, even with a REALLY expensive projector setup just doesnt compare imo - and my brothers opinion who had the setup…

          • @Woody982: Yes I have a 120” screen size - and i’m contemplating buying a cheaper 65” non-OLED tv and putting the left over funds to a 4K projector.

        • +1

I've been using this 65" OLED all week and really enjoying it compared to the 50" Kuro I had previously. I sit ~4.5m from the screen and started watching a film last night, persevered for 20 minutes and then just pulled down the 102" projector screen and fired up my 10 year old 1080p Epson. Yes, the blacks levels and pop are on completely on different levels, but I enjoyed the experience more with the bigger image. To me the image on the OLED was "wow, this is awesome," but the projector was "yeah, this is right." Everyone will have their own preferences.

Looks like an ATL! Bloody tempting.

  • Not a lot of stock in QLD, but there's one in Hervey Bay at least.

  • awesome tv ive got the 77

    • +4

      Is every TV the same?

        • +2

Just don't click the listing you're not interested in?

      • +2

Please do post every TV. And thank you for taking the time to post them.

    • Listed inside the Perks deal perhaps

  • +2

Hisense 65X9HAU for $1518.10 seems an insane deal.
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-65-x9hau-4k-uhd-o…
    -15% perks.

    Is it however???

Is the LG CS worth $400 more?

    • +1

Yeah, very hard to find reviews about it though. Even the UK version which is the a9h has very few reviews. Deciding whether to buy it because it's cheap or put the money toward a 65 s95c.

    • I bought it over the weekend. Don’t think it’s eligible for the 15% off because it’s Hisense, but for 1789 it’s still amazing value.

Picture quality is stunning, except I don’t use their stock VIDAA UI and I turned off the ‘Ultra Smoothing’ processing effect because it caused some movie scenes to jitter for some reason. Probably fixable in a software update..but the scenes are still very smooth at 120hz.

      • +2

Yeah, just tried and it isn't eligible for the 15% discount. That's a shame, I'd have definitely bought it for $1580 lol.

    • What panels do Hisense use? That should answer your question.

      • LG apparently, probably using the older style oled panels though. There's not much information about them that I could find but I just did a quick search.

        • +3

Hisense and LG are on 2 totally different tiers. If all cheap TVs were as good as premium TVs, then everyone would buy the cheaper ones. Would they not? If you want the cheaper option, you'd go Hisense, but if you want the better TV, then go LG? The extra $400 is subject to build quality and reliability.

          • +1

@thousandsuns: VIDAA UI is reason enough to avoid Hisense in my opinion.

          • +1

@thousandsuns: I think you're right in saying Hisense is a tier below LG because they neuter their Australian models and their app library/software (lags, unintuitive) isn't great. With that said (if it's true that it uses an LG panel), almost any TV with an LG OLED panel from the last 5 years will knock people's socks off. This includes Sony and Philips Ambilight models which all use the same LG panels and are on par regarding build quality, image processing and CPUs.

            • @Techie4066: The panel themselves aren't the only component of the unit. There are other factors to consider such as build quality, CPU as well as UI. A kogan OLED TV with a Google UI will never out perform a Sony OLED (regardless of panel). I find it dumb how people often compare apples and oranges. Just because they are both fruits does not make them the same.

              • @thousandsuns: Did you read my comment? I am aware of build quality, CPU and the UI.
I agree, and it's hard to compare "like for like" just on the limited list of specs out there for some products (no Rtings for Aussie Hisense models).

                • @Techie4066: Yes i did, I'm referring to the dude who posted the original comment regarding the extra $400 for LG. Legit stupid question.

                  • @thousandsuns: Thanks. That was me and was a serious question.

                    • -2

@boxall: I know, and as you can read by the comments and discussions, it was a seriosuly dumb question (no offence intended).

                    • +2

@boxall: I don't think it was a dumb question. I myself prefer android / google OS. Neither LG nor Hisense have either, so regardless of what tv I have neither of them would suit me for that purpose (I use an NVIDIA shield).

Hisense don't really state what processor they've used on that x9hau oled tv, so again, it could be laggy or it could be semi decent.

            • +1

@Techie4066: That's why I still love my 2015 27" retina iMac. The computing side is a bit slow these days and there is a bit of temporary burn-in, but it is absolutely beautiful to look at. LG panels are the best.

    • coupon doesnt work on this as its for samsung sony and LG only

  • C2 only thanks

  • Melbourne is basically sold out of these… That was quick!!

  • +1

Rather than one post “15% off tvs with perks” lets all post every tv in the JB catalogue separately

  • +1

Pretty impressed with JB Service tonight, I bought this TV last weekend, saw the cheaper price with Perks this evening, and received the the difference back after a visit to the store. A note on this and other WOLED TVs, watch for 4 hours and let it get through the first compensation cycle. I was pretty bumbed last Sunday with the degree of vertical banding visible in everyday content. Turned it on Monday morning and it had all been corrected.

  • hi
i have this oled 65 for about 5 weeks now. its great. gaming 4k hdr no issues. 120hz. all im doing is pc gaming on it. its become my monitor.

    • Aren't you worried about burn in from a static HUD?

      • Nope, I've got a 42" C2 for my PC setup. Not worried in the least. Even if burn in does happen (unlikely) I will just hitup LG for repair. Even if its "out of warranty" just quote ACL and youll be laughing.

      • hi
yes and no. but i am changing the hud size font size etc up and down every few days, through the game settings.just to change the area is on.
i have also in windows options, hide the taskbar. and if i browse internet while using example firefox or chrome i just make it from full size to slight smaller every few hours.
at the end its worth it. its amazing.

  • Hi Guys any reviews about this TV ?
LG 65" Nano75 4K Ultra HD LED Smart TV [2022]
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-65-nano75-4k-ultra-hd-…

    works out to be $930.75

    • +1

Good for the price if you don't want to pay extra for the TCL C835, but not at all comparable to an OLED. That doesn't even have full-array local dimming like the C835 does, which I'd strongly suggest at a minimum. It's worth your money :)

      • I was also considering this for a bit more, https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-75-qned80-4k-ultra-hd-…

      • i read so many reviews about OLED and burn in's

        • +2

If it was me I'd go for a TCL C835 or that LG in the size you'd like. It's an OzBargain favourite for a reason - you don't get that amazing of a picture unless you look up a tier to an OLED. A mini LED TV like the C835 or QNED80 cannot get burn-in.

Edit: on further investigation, LG sneakily omitted FALD from that QNED80 you linked, so it's best to subscribe to 75" C835 deals because it uses a VA panel instead of that LG's IPS panel and adds FALD = much better picture, the best you can get besides OLED. And it runs on Google TV.

          • @Techie4066: C835 is no more. Hard to find any stock of any size.

  • Any recommendation on sound bar & sub to go with this tv?

    • Sonos beam 2 or arc if U can splash out

  • B7 55” still happy with my panel. Hopefully I don’t get the dreaded burn in… every now and then there’s a static watermark (e.g., SBS logo) but thankfully nothing bad has happened yet.

    • Me too. Mine is 2018 B7 55". Nothing wrong with it, beautiful TV

  • Need a 75 not 65. Good price however

  • Can anyone please explain this perks 15% discount magic, what do I need? I haven't bought tv or any electronics for a looong time and I'm in the market for a new tv now. TIA

    • Got it but no online delivery available on this tv. :-( late to the game.

      • You probably have missed the boat on the 65" CS online, when I bought mine last weekend (Sat 17-Jun) there were 16 in the Melbourne warehouse at the start of the day, when I purchased late afternoon they were down to 11. If you don't mind ringing around you may find one or even a C2 if you are willing to go up a level, as I find their online stock system unreliable.
