[PC] Battlefield 2042 $5 + Delivery (Free Click & Collect) @ Joyce Mayne

884

Receiving some conflicting information regarding this game based on previous posts on Ozbargain… thought I'd give it a go at this price.

Cost me $10.95 with delivery, here's hoping it's worth the price of a kebab

Edit: Can confirm orders are being cancelled.

Def worth the price of a kebab but I feel (mod: edited) that I paid $149.95 for it at launch. Still a playable game even @$20-$30 price tag.

    • +12

Damn there aren't many games I'd pay $149.95 for at launch I'm assuming it was ultimate edition or something lol.

      I don't preorder after Cyberpunk 😂

      • +11

Yea Im the type of guy who buys everything maxed out, but this was probably the most regretful purchase I've made in the last 5 years

        • +1

          You aren't the only one.

The game earned itself over 30,000 negative reviews on Steam and the company was forced into a no-questions-asked instant refund for anyone who wanted it in many regions of the world, up to 6 months after it was launched.

Path of Exile was only game on the steam platform to ever have lost more of it's players (as a percent) in a 1 - 7 day period after a content or game launch as BF2042. Which is impressive for all the wrong reasons.

          • @infinite: Did this game ever improve? I hear it's a lot better these days, but I'm finding alot of conflicting views on the modern state of the game.

      • +11

I did the same with Diablo 4. I got maybe 80 hours out of it, but still feel like the game isn't finished from a replayability standpoint and was released way too early. Have buyers' remorse now. Copium dictates seasons brings improvements, but there is way too much that needs improving in the base game as it is :'(

        • +9

Not sure why you got negged for giving your opinion, so I upvoted to cancel out.

        • +1

It was the same for diablo 3 in the early days too. Then they improved upon it.

        • +1

No buyer's remorse with D4 here if anyone was wondering if everyone feels that way.

    • +12

Yeah but so is BattleBit Remastered.

      • bought it the other day and had to refund after about 2 hours of trying to get it to launch with antieasycheat. Had to give up and refund it which is disappointing since it looks like a lot of fun

        • What did you try and play it on that gave you anti cheat problems?

          • @Lord G: My ayaneo 2, do you think it's specific to my device? I don't have a gaming pc to test it on

      • +1

Well call me a donkey. Didn't even know the game existed. Looks interesting.

      • BattleBit looks fun but I reckon it's a fad game and wont sustain a player base in Australia long term.

        • +2

Having played it I couldn't disagree more. I'm about 20 hours in (including the beta) and never enjoyed a game this much since the old BF3/BF4 days. This is something the community has been waiting for and the fact that it permanently has about 8-10 Aussie servers at full capacity and topping the Steam charts I'm willing to bet it's here to stay. I also haven't seen an online game with this many people using ingame voice chat since the old CoD (console) days.

          • @Nedward: Huh, the other day I read that it didn't even have players to fill one max size server. Guess it picked up since then.

            • @Diji: Since I fired it up at 3am in the morning and there was a full 256 player server Im wagering it has.

              (profanity) brillant

    • Maybe I'm getting old but I use the $1 per hour method. I don't even think I'd get 5 hours out of this game.

      • +8

I think 1$ an hour is a little tough, not many games you're realistically going to reach that metric with save for games on massive discount, or Ubisoft games, which are just stuffed with filler, me personally I've found myself moreso appreciating shorter games that get straight to the point and don't have me trudging through clear filler activities, I spent like 20 dollars on "What Remains of Edith Finch", finished it in about 3 hours and loved it, no regrets with my purchase, there's not many games I can play for more than 20 hours without feeling a little burnt out, save for New Vegas, I'll always have time for New Vegas.

        • +1

What Remains of Edith Finch is fantastic. I've also been playing shorter games and recently played The Last Campfire which I'd highly recommend.

        • +1

I don't think it's that tough when you have services like Xbox live for PC with over 100 good games at 10.95/month. If you can play significantly more than 11hours a month, 1$ an hour is actually quite expensive. I do prefer to own games but I join for a month here and there to try other games I don't care about owning long term.

      • I normally wait for sales, for most games, my strike point is $30, or for cheaper and indie games, it's about 40% or 50% off.

    • Agreed. First Battlefield i pre-ordered after years of buying the series at 2 years old. Feel like a complete idiot but 300hrs in it's quite fun.

    • Never buy EA Games on launch, their games are all trash now days.

  • +11

Very much worth it for $5. Kebabs sell for $15 where I am so this is still cheaper 30% cheaper than a kebab.

If you don't enjoy the BF series try Battlebit Remastered for $23 AUD. The gameplay is a hybrid of Squad and Battlefield.

    • +6

To be honest, only eat lamb kebab snack packs which is $16 here

      • +1

Where you buying your $16 HSPs from if I may ask? A tad cheaper than the closest kebab place to me

    • +6

Just FYI Battlebit Remastered is brilliant fun.

    • +4

I feel like if a game sucks the price really doesn't matter, I bought this game and the time I spent playing it was frustrating and disappointing. Paying 5 dollars for a bad experience is still a bad deal.

      • +1

        you are very wise

  • +10

Instructions unclear. Now have garlic sauce in the ports of my laptop.

  • +10

I've been playing Battlebits Remastered. Don't be turned off by the graphics, the game play mechanics are great, you can slap on accessories to make your gun tacticool and the voice chat is fun.

Really reminds me of a mix between BF and CoD.

    • +1

Legit haven’t had so much fun since OG battlefield bad company - though I will say, it doesn’t transition well to steam deck . Really need mouse and kb

    • +1

      Can a 10 year old PC run it? I’ve got a 7970 and an i5 3570K.

      • +3

Should be able to. Don't know how well the game's optimised, it is still early access.

You should be fine. Minimum system requirements typically aren't the most accurate but going off that, you should be able to play it more than capably.

Can always refund within I think 2hrs of playtime on Steam if it does end up running like s***? Anyone correct me if I'm wrong

      • +4

Very low spec requirements — GTS 450 is the minimum spec, and the 7970 is about 2-3x faster than that .

The game will run fine on old hardware.

      • -1

Bruh I’m sure a hacked myki reader could play it

      • +1

It has a graphics setting 'potato' if that helps

    • +3

The reviews about the anti-cheat requiring kernel-level computer access puts me off.

      • +3

Most anticheat requires that level of access - it's how they detect kernel-level cheats. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're trying to evade nation-state security personnel and for some reason suspect they have infiltrated the anti-cheat software maker to specifically get to you

      • +1

Only way to have an effective anti cheat

  • +2

LMAO If $5 delivered I'll buy it.

  • +7

To be honest, I am still enjoying BF2042, and I do not have too many regrets paying $68.42 for the Ultimate Edition just before launch.

I think you cannot go wrong with this for $5, especially on PC. BF2042 was quite rough for the first year or so, but it has become more polished in the last few updates and is definitely more enjoyable to play now.

Whatever you do, don’t get suckered into paying for the premium battle passes with real world money, as you are only missing out on cosmetic items that are - to me, anyway - only marginally interesting.

    • +2

I played like 10hrs of the bf2042 beta so I jumped on that $68 ultimate edition pre-order. I've played 1hr of the final game, not sure why I haven't played more, maybe since my friends all dropped it super quickly and I mainly play BF in a squad with them. Will have to try and get them back onto it.

I think the series peaked at BF4. The map design wasn't great in BF1 and while BFV had some good QoL it didn't recapture the feel of it, hard to explain. 2042 feels like a mod team total conversion rather than the polished quality of a AAA title, similar sorta feeling to hardline.

      • Whenever I try to play 2042 I just think "Why don't I just go play one of the good battlefields that still has players".

      • BF2042 was not great at launch. Who could forget:

        • The revive bug where you could not revive someone if part of their body was inside a wall.

        • The cringe specialist dialogue at the end of each round, especially when dialogue from bots was used. "Ooooo, I think I pulled a muscle back there."

        • The lack of a scoreboard.

        • The lack of a server-wide chat.

        • The Hovercraft being the go-to vehicle to kill lots of players.

        • The initial decision to have standalone specialists instead of the class system. I swear when this was the system used, most people would run rocket launchers… (The class system is back and I actually like how you can choose a specialist within a specific class.)

        • The inability for Angel or Falck to give themselves ammo or health without them running or firing towards the ground or an object.

It has taken a while for BF2042 to get to the point it is at, and that probably is feeding a lot of the negative opinions of the game (which is fair enough). I have lots of fun playing it nowadays, especially the bespoke game modes available on Portal every few days or on Friday Night Battlefield. However, I still think BF3 and BF4 were better games and will stand the test of time, although BF4 was itself quite rough for a long time and it took the work of DICE LA to get to the game to where it is at today. I actually played a lot of BF1 too and think it is the most "cinematic" Battlefield game, although some of its design choices (particularly the inability to stop your team's ticket bleed on Conquest if you control the majority of capture points) always irked me. I did not purchase Hardline or BFV, and I think I missed out on basically nothing there…

      • +2

BF4 was and still is great.

        • +1

nah hit reg in that game was and still is awful

        • +1

          BFBC2 is the best

      • I agree, the best days of BF were BF3 and 4. Personally I really enjoyed BF3 because of battlelog, being able to see dog tags that you received for achievements and also dog tags you took by melee as well as their owner's names and how many times you took them gave a sense of satisfaction that other BFs didn't have and also encouraged rivalries that lasted beyond a single game. I remember chasing people for weeks for their cool dog tag or to get revenge for getting tea bagged after getting knifed. BF4 was probably the pinnacle of BF in terms of models, animations, sounds etc. Even hardline, while it was unpolished, at least there was fun to be had with how OP the k10 and the 300 knockout were.

Starting from BF1 the feel just changed, probably due to engine changes, and things started going downhill. BF used to be leaps and bounds above COD in sound and animations, but it was the opposite for 2042. It wasn't even as good as previous BFs. I think that was why it felt like a cheap mod.

  • +2

Why is there a delivery fee if it's a digital download?

    • +7

It's a code that comes physically in a box.

      • +7

        Sigh..

    • Almost did not buy it because of this reason.

  • Studies have shown your $15 "lamb" kebab is half chicken.

    • that's why everything tastes like chicken

    • +1

Considering my father actually worked in a kebab making factory and made chicken / lamb kebabs i highly doubt that, though his told me to avoid the beef.

      • What's the issue with beef?

        • +1

Well my father mentions they add some preservaties and stuff he doesn't know about and they keep them in freezers for months but not the chicken or lamb

    • studies have shown that that half chicken is soylent pink

  • Been kicking myself since I didn't buy it the first time on sale at Big W but glad this popped up

  • is anyone still online?

    • +1

yes still very active on evenings and weekends

      • This weekend has been quite dead, couldn't get matches in Infrantry Rush or 64 Conquest, have been playing battlebit instead.

        • +1

everyone seems to be playing infantry Breakthrough.

  • +1

    Still a quality game

  • Buy now, think later….

Purchased, now why did I do that. Anyway from Tbags reviews and game play on YouTube, he does mention that is has def improved

  • +1

I loaded it recently. Got 30-40 hours out of it. Would maybe put in more with better server and squad selection. Once you put in a bit of time the game has less depth than BF4 but definitely worth a play at $10-$15

  • +2

I'd pay double that for a code to be emailed.

  • +5

currently at 278 hours in BF2042, past few months the game has really polished up nicely and really feels like a decent BF game,

    • +3

Paid a boat load at launch, might come back around to it given what you've stated

      • +1

get onto infantry Breakthrough or normal Breakthrough, that is where the best action is imo,

  • +3

Shipping is more than the game? :hmm:

  • +4

Great game now in its current form after season 4 and 5. They surprisingly turned it around and is a solid battlefield experience

  • nearest store 100km away.

  • +1

I paid $110 for this garbage on launch and steam denied my refund request

    • Same here, tried refunding through steam 4 times and denied. I asked paypal for a refund, got it, steam blocked me being able to buy for a month or something.

      • I got it refunded easily on steam….what did you do wrong?

Did you play too many hours? Or wait too long before refund?

        • I can't remember, It was probably both of those reasons, I think i played like 10 hours during pre release and then the promised launch day patch to fix all the issues never came which when I put in the request.

  • +1

It's come along way and still being updated. Quality title now. Not so much when it first came out

    • -1

Still no single player campaign. Big fail.

      • +2

you don't buy BF games for single player,

  • Does it have a server browser yet?

    • yes

  • +1

Please tell me where you are getting kebabs for $10.95.

    • +1

      Braver man than me…

  • Also ordered, $11~ ain't bad especially given it's got bots to play against worst case.

  • +1

This or Battlebit Remastered? That one seems popular as well

    • +1

      Battlebit Give me 400FPS
      BF2042 Give me 100FPS
      Ryzen 5950X
      3060TI
      64GB ram
      SSD

    • +2

Battlebit. This game sucks ass, and the price reflects that.

  • Tried to play this on PS5 but it says I need to pay the playstation monthly sub (whatever it's called these days -PS PLUS?)
Does the PC version need any monthly sub?

  • Get on it you notepads!

    • +2

See you on the battlefield no pants.

This game is well worth it for $5, not quite as good as past titles but they've done a ton of working fixing it since launch and it's good enough now. No problems getting a game and they will be doing at least one more season.

  • +2

Tried to purchase this morning and spoke to customer service who said the page will be updated shortly as it is now out of stock. Good find.

    • +2

Hmmm, bugger, I just put in an order which was processed. Used a gift card too. Guess a cancellation email is coming my way.

      • +2

Damn it! Serves me right for not reading all of the comments. Two hours and still no out of stock update. Slackers!
