If you want to get a bigger discount on Google Play gift cards, one suggestion is to go to Officeworks and ask them to price beat Coles' deal (assuming Officeworks does not drop their prices to match Coles, which is something they have not really done for gift cards in the last three years). Once the price beat is applied, this would equate to a 14.5% discount.

Officeworks' Price Beat Guarantee does not specifically exclude the purchase of gift cards, and Officeworks' sales system (at least in the past) has been programmed to allow price beats on the purchase of gift cards.

You can request a price beat either instore or over the phone (1300 633 423):

    • If you are instore, take the Google Play gift cards you want to purchase to the checkout and ask staff for a price beat. You will need to show evidence of this deal, so it should be sufficient to show the relevant page of the physical or digital copy of the Coles catalogue.

    • If you are calling over the phone, tell the staff member to look at the deal on the relevant page of the Coles catalogue on the Coles website.

Please note that if staff agree to a price beat request, they can restrict the sale of Google Play gift cards to “reasonable quantities”. For example, you may only be able to purchase 3x $100 Google Play gift cards via a price beat.

And before someone asks, I am doubtful you can use Ultimate / Celebration gift cards, Officeworks gift cards or Coles Group & Myer gift cards as a payment method for Google Play gift cards at Officeworks. I have not tested this myself with Google Play gift cards in recent times, but here is why I am doubtful:

    • Officeworks has a policy that states that you cannot use any type of gift cards to purchase any gift cards sold at Officeworks.

    • Officeworks has within the last week started to implement Invalid Product Mix errors on purchases of some gift cards at some Officeworks stores if you are using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method. If you encounter this error, the staff member will get an error message on their screen saying that the item(s) being purchased cannot be purchased using a "gift card type" payment method.

    • Officeworks is very inconsistent with its acceptance of Ultimate gift cards as a payment method on its website (although that is a moot point, because Officeworks' Price Beat Guarantee is not available on its online store).

    • I am not sure whether Officeworks accepts Ultimate gift cards as a payment method over the phone.

In regards to this, I brought 5x Google gift cards ($50 each one as they don't sell $100 at the store I went to) and the staff that served me said that you were only to price beat 5 per customer (as per Coles limit)

      Thanks for the advice Wookie!

Going to be greedy and wait for 15% off before price beat at OW

      • Fair enough, although some people will happily jump on a 10% off deal or do not want to wait for a 15% off deal to roll around.

        • +1

Would suck if they decide to get rid of 15%

I only use it for Google One anyway so it's once a year actually $50 gets me 2 years provided Google doesn't jack

Lmao get 10% off to pay the scammers xD

Never understood why you'd need to buy Google Play Store credit unless you're going super heavy on the subscriptions or are a whale for a particular game.
I currently have ~$50 of credit accumulated solely from the Survey Rewards app. I occasionally spend a bit to remove ads or unlock a feature in a Tasker module, and that pushes the credit expiry date back too.

YouTube Premium. Fitbit subscription. The occasional TV show or movie.

      • Ok, I didn't think about TV shows or movies, that's fair.

Careful they don't take it off you, they stole more then $20 off me that I got from the rewards app, small print, it expires :(

      • That's part of the reason why I'm making small purchases, it pushes back the expiry date.

        • +1

At one point credit didn't expire but good to know you can push back the date.

I didn't get no warning, tried to get it back but was told no.

I use it to pay for my Google One subscription.

      • Are you aware of the Türkiye method? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751330

        • +2

Yeah too complicated. I have a short attention span and I dont want to muck up my Google accounts etc in the process. Last year I paid with Google Play gift cards that were on sale at 15% off and then had OfficeWorks price beat it, and paid for the Google One subscription upfront (which is discounted as well), so it was acceptably affordable (~$9.26/month for 2TB) especially given that I've claimed a bit back with 10% store credit as a result of purchases on the Google Store as well. That Turkey method brings the same plan to $102.90, about a $7 difference (compared to $111.30 that I paid) across 12 months….something I can live with if it saves me the hassle and time :)

          • +1

@Trishool: Not sure what you mean. The 2TB plan is roughly $22 per year in the link I provided.

            • @Jonzay: Oh crikey you're right! I don't know where I was looking!

      Never understood why

I never understood why some people never understand other people have different needs.

      • +3

I am willing to learn and understand, and then in the future I won't make that particular sentence again.

      • You think that’s bad — I never understood. I think that’s where you try to stand up, but don’t make it all the way. Sounds terrible to me, but given so many smart people swear by it, I’m keen to find out what I’m missing out on

    • unless you're going super heavy on the subscriptions or are a whale for a particular game

      Aren't those enough reasons?

      • Three reasons is the gold standard

    • I'm really ugly so I am constantly boosting on Tinder like a MF to grab me those GILFs

    • I buy and read ebooks

What's worth buying @ Google Play?
I've got about $90 Survey rewards credit in my Google Play and don't know what to buy.
And my credit is now diminishing as I get less surveys whilst the credit is gradually expiring.

    • +1 $50 on google play I don't know what to spend on.

  • Really, hard to use $30 worth credit I had for last 3 years (may be it's expired now) …!

Literally failed to understand use of this credit if you are not gamer since Netflix stopped taking google credit

  • +2

You can use Google Play credits to pay for Google One subscriptions, for as little as $2.49 a month.

Your Google One storage and perks can be shared with up to 5 family members, and it also comes with a VPN. The VPN however is pretty pathetic and there are much better options out there, but at the very least you'll be glad that you don't have to install an additional app to use it. The VPN can be turned on via the Google One app itself.

on my current google subs i use credit card, if i add credit can i use that ?

My local OW refused price beat the gift cards for me even though I showed them the Coles catalog.

At first staff at the checkout said it's a cashback deal that they couldn't match. After I asked them to read again, they changed the reason to they couldn't make sure the gift card sold at Coles was the same as the one sold in OW. Ridiculous.
