Does anyone know how it compares to the hire shop (Britex or Rug Doctor) at Bunnings? Wondering whether to hire a couple of times in a year or buy something that takes up space. TIA

    • +3

Better off purchasing if your hiring a couple of times in a year. You might have to do a few more sweeps plus emptying & refilling, but that vs the hiring prices plus commuting etc. Also it's not as large as the hire ones so it's not gonna take up that much space, specially once again if your using it so often per year. Also keep the price in mind atm.

        Makes sense. Thanks

        • +5

My pleasure, give it a whirl once you receive it, if you find it unsatisfactory just return it within the time limit. Amazon have a good return policy, just state that it doesn't meet expectations etc.

buy one, i have an inferior brand bought 10 years, they are quite good and capable of doing the carpet clean.

hire shop unit used for many houses, you do not know how dirty environment they used for the last hire, so many bacteria.

    • personally, I'd hire. The space thing you mentioned is important (to me).

    • +1

Find a reasonable priced professional carpet cleaner. If he does a good job hang on to him, plus make sure he uses a truck mount system and not a portable. Better job. Britex is not the way to go trust me!

  • +4

I bought it, and also the Oxy cleaning solution… My carpets are pretty bad so I'm curious how well this will work 🙂

    • Isn't that cleaning solution just for stains? and not general cleaning?

  • Anyone who bought it last deal can comment?

    • +4

Never hired a machine, so hard to compare, but i feel it did a good job - water was filthy

    • +5

Got the XL Hoover one that was on sale at the same time as this one (was 300 instead of 500) and it's doing a great job. We just moved into a place with carpets, I used it to clean carpets, rugs and it has a "trunk" (absent on this version) to do the upholstery. I've done the front entrance 2-3 times since just to keep it fresh (we have a dog), it's easy to use and really straightforward. I'm quite happy with it. Happy to have invested in it as I know the place will need it and I can't be bothered to go hire one.

I bought it last time and I've done all our carpets. Works really well, but you should vacuum with a powerhead first. Otherwise, it'll spit out lots of slimy grey furballs like a sick cat. They'll also clog up the internals which are hard to clean. But overall, it's a really good washer. The water tank lasts about 10 square meters, and the sample pack of shampoo lasts about five tanks.

I don't have carpet now but I'm sure I probably will in the future, right? got one.

    • +1

      That's the spirit.

    • +1

      "This is the way"

    • Give this man a ozbargain badge

  • Can you get upholstery attachments for it or anything?

    • From the pictures, it doesn't seem to have the output for it like on the XL one.

  • +5

Just know that this does not come with the accessories in the picture shown on OzBargain.
No extension hose and no upholstery/spot cleaner, being the top 2 accessories.
If you are to buy OEM accessories, you might as well buy the XL model, 100 bucks for the extension pipe, 35 bucks for the upholstery nozle.

    • I cant even find accessories for it lol

      • Most likely because the accessories are replacement parts for PowerDash Advanced or PowerDash Pet.

    • It seemed like a no brainer until I realised it doesn't come with the accessories. Tough decision..

    • Only thing that I can find is: https://hoover.com/products/universal-7-stair-tool-for-hoove…

      I guess this is Canadian.

    • +2

I bought one because I really need to clean my carpets… I do have one upholstered couch though. If the XL comes on sale for ~300 I'll buy it, and sell this one (or gift to to my parents)…

I think this one is still worth it as long as you know it's only for carpets 🙂

Poor reason for a down vote.

The accessories shown in the thumbnail are not shown in the link at the Amazon site where the bargain is accessed. And the OP has made the clarification.

This is genuinely 50% off the RRP listed at most stores. And it gets pretty good reviews across various sites.

      • +1

OP did not make the clarification, my report got a mod to edit it.

Thank you for your report for [Prime] Hoover Carpet Washer $149.50 Delivered @ Amazon AU (50% off Regular Price of $299) (Deal Post)

        • The deal is still not worth a neg. And a simple comment highlighting the error in the thumbnail (which was not replicated in the sale page on amazon) would have been the collegiate thing to do rather than negging.

Thanks to the OP for the post. A genuine bargain at 50% of what other places are selling.

        • +1

I modified the description since the thumbnail is nothing like what is advertised on the page itself.

Even the moderator note said as much.

Thanks for highlighting as the thumbnail is misleading.

took the punt. Least with Amazon easy returns if it crap! Thanks OP

  • 35 bucks for the actual cleaning solution, ouch.

    • +5

Screw that, just pop into a cleaning supply shop and buy 5l of carpet cleaner solution.

    • +3

Bowden's Own Orange Agent (and Fabracadabra for a stain remover).

I use these in my Bissell spot cleaner (I bought the Hoover one to do floors)

  • +3

Thanks OP - purchased! Have wanted to give one of these carpet cleaners a try, and figure this is a great one to give a go.

  • Have to clean carpets when leaving rental… to save $500 bill you think i could buy this and it will satisfy the rental agreement of "professional carpet cleaning"?

    • +8

No, usually you have to provide a receipt from the professionals.

      • +5

        microsoft word, wink wink

        • let that paperclip dude help you write the letter

      • +2

these don't do as good a job as a good professional service anyway, so unless the carpet is already pretty decent I doubt the result from this would be acceptable so they might be looking at that receipt closely. I have a bissell and while it does a great job it is not up to the professionally cleaned level, what it does to is makes the time between needing a professional clean much larger.

      • Pretty sure they can only force you to do this if it was done prior to you moving in or if you have pets

      • Not any more you don't. Just needs to be as clean as when you moved in.

        • Yeah bought one just before out of stock. Might save me some $ when vacating as opposed to the Britex hiring. Ill give it a go and get my mate to invoice me lol

  • Does anyone know how much cleaner it comes with? And can we just use any carpet cleaner in it?

    • Wonder the same and size size I'm assuming is a normal vacuum and the xl tank be bigger ?

Anyone here own one and using it ?

    • +3

Barely 200ml if I remember? Good enough for two cleanings I think. Then you can go your local cleaning supplies shop and get a liter of quality stuff for $20-25

  • +2

    ok fine I bought it

  • -2

Will never use carpet again. Too many issues, bugs, maintenance. Floorboards 100% even in bedrooms.

    • Agreed. As a bit of a clean freak carpets are a nightmare. If it didn't cost five figures to replace the carpets with floorboards I'd have done it already.

  • +1

Curious - wouldn't something like this make your underlay damp and increase the risk of mould?

    • +1

That's why you'd need some way to dry it quickly. Like big industrial fans, heating, hot weather (which is why people do it in Spring as the weather warms up), or a dehumidifier (or all of the above)

      • +14

As a professional carpet cleaner with a truck mount machine, plus doing it for close to 10 years the main points of drying carpet are:

        1. Do it in spring summer, natural warmth of the house is enough.
        2. Cool air is the way to go. Ceiling fans, doors and windows open.
        3. Heat ie heaters and ducted will not dry the carpet but will make it sweat and take longer to dry. These are a big no, no. Unless you use a dehumidifier with the heat. The heat evaporates the water in the carpet to moisture in the air and then the dehumidifier extracts it out the air. We recommend 27 degrees when using heat and a dehumidifier.
        4. With a machine like this on offer, I can imagine it will not have the suction to draw to much water out so go over just sucking several times.
        5. Don't put wooden or metal items down until completely dry if want to avoid rust and timber stains.

        Hope helps

        • +1

          Great tips!

        • Thanks so much for those tips @BigBucko - will definitely use those when giving the machine a go the first time. :-)

  • What's the best and cheapest cleaning solution for this? Surely not the ones they're selling for $35!

    • +1

Someone mentioned Godfreys sells a 5L solution for $50 which will probably outlast the machine.

      • Thanks!

    • Check out Choice review… Out of all the usual brands the best was…. Vinegar, water and washup detergent.

  • Sold out while it was in my cart and I was checking out :(

    • Me too.

  • What brush system does this use? Two spinning brushes?

Any chance of getting a price match anywhere?

  • damm missed it :(

  • +1

Well I ended up getting one… Any cleaning solutions or additives that have a mould killer/inhibitor? I get paranoid about that with using water on carpets

Would it hurt to chuck some Concrobium in the tank?

  • missed on that also need one

  • +1

Used it over the weekend and thus far it's been great - my only other experience has been renting a carpet cleaner from Bunnings which did not come in a great shape (very yuck).

The tank capacity is probably only big enough for a large bedroom, and after I was done, and following advice on this page I used my vortex circulator to really pump air through the room to assist with drying. But it still took awhile what with us in winter.

But overall very happy and the cleanup is easy as well.

I do wonder if the carpet solutions are really so good that the collection tank is always so murky or if there's some weird formulation that deliberate creates this effect?
