  • one voucher per two guests

Can't even use it for eating alone to pay what the food is worth. :(

    • This makes no sense

      • he's saying that you can't dine alone even if you plan on eating 2 ppls worth of food and costs them the sexact same amount of money (mayube a drink lesss)

        • that's pretty abstract.

I think this deal is good as Wagamama's normal prices are absurd but the quality of the ingredients used in their food is pretty good.

wagamama is rubbish. passable at half price.

  • where did you get this voucher from?

    • It was emailed to members/site subscribers.

I don't know what everyone is bitching about. I went to the Galleries Victoria one the other day and the food was good (on par withmy expectations). The servings were huge (neither of us could finish our mains), but I agree that's it is overpriced.

However, at 50% off, the prices aren't so bad.

Word of warning: DON'T ask for water, they will bring out overpriced bottled water.

All in all, there are better places to eat for cheaper if you look around (especially in China Town), but at 50% off, Wagamama isn't all that bad.

You can ask for TAP water, OzBargainer style!

"I agree that's it is overpriced…However, at 50% off, the prices aren't so bad."

"not so bad" at half price = "rubbish" at full price.

even at half price, i would rather eat a good bowl of pho for the same price (or cheaper), or pay a little bit more for a decent ramen!

wagamama = bland asian food for white people made by white people.

Interestingly wagamama in japanese means selfish/demanding - a term used to describe spoiled children or ballbreaking girlfriends.. In Japanese it's an entirely negative term.. "Sounds kinda Japanesey and funky," you can imagine the founders of the restaurant saying.. "let's run with it!".

The same tokenistic attitude to a tradition they claim to represent can be seen throughout the menu. It's bastardised asian cuisine, dishes designed by English chefs who have only a very cursory knowledge of the culinary tradition they purport to emulate. The chopsticks are the most authentic thing you will find at this place.

For example they know that the Japanese use dashi broth.. so you find it in everything including the ramen - which is just wrong. Ramen should be made of pork bone broth (with additions depending on regional style).

As another example - they know about the japanese adaptation of curry so they make a curry sauce thickened with gloopy cornstarch for their katsu curry don. Real Japanese curry, however is always thickened with a buttery roux made of plain flour and butter, leading to a much more pleasant texture.

They never get the seasoning right either. Everything on the menu is either too bland or over balanced toward one flavour. There is none of the subtle balance you expect to find in an authentic meal.

I'm not asking them to put expensive ingredients into the dishes.. just demonstrate some knowledge/understanding of the culinary tradition you claim to represent.

In short Wagamama is to Japanese cuisine what Gloria Jeans is to espresso. Wagamama is the culinary equivalent of the Kanji character protruding from beneath the bright pink G-String of the bimbo at a Frankston nightclub which "means like strength.. or honour or fire or something.. I forget. but i really like japanesey stuff"

  • I'm sure there's one in Darling Harbour Kings St Wharf, yet their web site doesn't mention it…

  • If you order 4 meals do you only have to pay for 2?

    • Yes but you would need to have 4 people since you would need two vouchers.
