Great price if you need to buy one now, otherwise wait, as most 2TB drive will drop below a hundred at the end of the year!

Several mid to low tier 2TB NVMe drives are already in the ¥500 (~$100) range during the 618 shopping festival in China. Plus NAND chips have been considered overpriced for quite some time by now.

        • You can get on Amazon now for $123.
I'm not sure savings will be that much if you include import taxes, Aus tax, and selling fees.

@Vash1984: I think we're talking about the trend in NAND prices going downwards in general. The cost to do business are not much lower overseas and the price differences are really down to competition and scale of the market. The shockwave of price drop will reach here sooner or later.

          • @Vash1984: approx $184 AUD

    • Patiently waiting for 4tb to drop below $200

      • I'm waiting from the time 2TB used to be over $800 too :-)

I use one of these for a game drive, works well enough

It's probably one of the best current SATA SSDs, if you need a SATA drive. Would be nice to have an 8TB option.

      • yeah you're right, not sure why i worded how i did… probably because of many insisting they need NVMe drives these days… SATA is still good for pc gaming in the majority of cases though

        • you need NVME SSD for direct storage on PC

          https://www.google.com/search?q=direct+storage+windows+10+re…

          • @pinkybrain: There are like 3 games total that currently support direct storage…

          • @pinkybrain: At some nebulous point in the future, if it becomes popular enough, sure.

            https://duckduckgo.com/?q=list+of+games+that+support+directs…

          • @pinkybrain: Consoles need Direct Storage because they don't have enough RAM to fit everything in. On a PC with 64GB, the devs can just load the entire game at once…

            • @Nom: majority of PC users do not have 64GB…
I think most people got 8GB to 16GB

Upgrading to 64GB would be more expensive
than getting a 1TB NVME ssd.

also you forgetting that the RAM is also occupy by many other processes/programs on Windows..

              • @pinkybrain:

majority of PC users do not have 64GB…
I think most people got 8GB to 16GB

If you're needing to play brand new AAA titles that support DirectStorage, then you're not doing that on a machine with 8GB 😁

                • @Nom: even if you playing AAA titles
majority of users most likely only got 16GB ram.

Don't think majority of users have 32GB RAM
and even less have 64GB of ram.

                  Even from past steam stats
most people are running a nvidia 1060
You can still run AAA titles with direct storage
you just need to change the resolution and graphic settings to ensure you can play it on on your lower spec system.
Unless the new games requires minimum requirement that is more than the 1060 etc..

2TB 980 Pro is much faster and currently at the same price if you have a m.2 slot. Also said that will be dropped a bit more in coming months due to overstock

    • +2

Came here to say the same thing. :) .. DEFINITELY go the 980 Pro if you have the option.

    • is this drive work with direct storage for PC

        Depends on your use-case

There’re uses where an ssd makes better sense than a spindle drive

      • For many many use cases there's minimal difference between the fastest and slowest SSDs.

If you're just using your PC for general tasks and gaming, a lower performance SSD will barely make any difference to load times etc.

    • Is it any good?

      • Not particularly fast but fairly good bet as Teamgroup know what they’re doing.

If you want a bootdrive there’re better options

  • Expect better ssd deals during prime day?

  • What’s people’s thoughts on these for longer term storage for photos etc? Reliable?

    • +2

Depends on how you're going to use it. SSD's rely on electrical charge, so are reliable for storage when plugged in. If unplugged and used as "cold storage", SSD's become more risky if you're not touching it for a year or more. Temperature also affects their electrical charge when unplugged.

If doing cold storage, HDD probably better because magnetism doesn't rely on electrical charge.

      • Ok makes sense, thank you so much

  • Now $138.18
