  • Anyone have experience dealing with Kogan and warranty? Steamdeck isn't officially available here so no idea what warranty would be like if it breaks.

Here's one example I found where they had a positive experience with warranty.

I've read through various experiences with both Kogan and Ebay stores and pretty much all of them had a positive experience with warranty for the Steam Deck,
It's just that it can sometimes take a bit more time than people have patience for.

i would like to think dealing with kogan directly is a LITTLE bit safer than the other 3rd party sellers on their marketplace such as vchain etc.
i got a 256gb in the first kogan pre-sale round and still going good now…

    • My experience has generally been good.

    • I bought a robotic vacuum through Kogan recently which was defective. The process was pretty easy, I got on chat and provided some video to show what it was doing. They confirmed it was an issue and immediately sent me a new unit along with a return postage sticker for the defective unit, and it was all sorted within 4 days beginning to end, so I was pretty happy with that. The new unit has been working for well over a month now without issue, but the actual warranty process was super easy.

    • I bought a galaxy S8 a few years back, failed after 6 months. Return and replaced without any issues but did take about 3 weeks to go through the process.

  • Is this price likely to be bettered during Black Friday? I'm keen now but this is ozbargain :-)

Is this price likely to be bettered during Black Friday?

For that. We must consult the oracle that is the magic 8ball.

      Magic 8ball says maybe.

      • Yeah I know, impossible to say.

    • I asked Stevo down at the train station and he said it will get cheaper and come with durries.

      • Good ol' Stevo. Never lets me down.

Wait for the 64gb version to go sub 600. swapout 64 GB for a 2Tb and you have a power house gaming and emulation machine for less than $800. I bought one from eBay deal at $659 and it works like a dream. Dual boot with windows and plenty of room to tinker any thing

    • I don't have a Steam Deck myself yet, but I've heard/read that most things can be run off an SD with no noticeable performance loss, so don't even need to open it up to get more storage.

The shader cache is usually what takes up the storage. Installing a few larger games will fill up the 64gb drive quickly with shader cache.

Play delete reinstall and so on

I only have fallout 4 running from deck inbuilt memory, everything else is on sd… I don’t really feel much load time difference compared to pc performance

nah the microSD slot is really slow when it comes to operational things. once a game is copied there it's fine - you won't notice a difference in game load times. but if you install windows, just booting and loading takes about 5 minutes vs 20-30seconds if it's internal.

Also installing a game to microSD slot takes a while. I local transfer from my PC and when I transfer to internal storage I average 95MB/sec (both connected to gigabit local ethernet), when I local transfer to the microSD (even after trimming it) max (peak) I'll get is 45MB/sec, average about 20MB/sec. And that's with a Samsung EVO plus card (U3, A2 V30 / rated at 130MB/sec).

      • microSD are more expensive per GB than a SSD. And a good deal slower. I used to get shutter warnings on PS2 emulation running off microSD. 2TB was an impulse buy for me but I have seen 1tb go for $80 which is very good value

    • Don’t think it will go below $600

      • It is possible, lowest price was $659. If you are going to be travelling and is able to claim TRS. Total price will drop down to $599.1

        • I’d like to have it under $600 but I also wanna buy from a good place like Amazon who will back warranty easy

I have never had good experience with Kogan to be honest

        • Oh I see. So you could apply the same logic and get the 256GB for just over $817? I'm off overseas in 4 weeks so that would work.

      • once steam deck 2 comes out it would be.

        • Waiting till 2025 but yes true

    • This is the correct answer

  • portability is good, its just a small screen to play with.

    • +3

Same size screen as Switch OLED and ROG Ally

      • Yet body is roughly 3x size, screen not oled and is 60hz

        • Lets not forget the fact it is still $400 more than the Deck listed here, or about $600 more than the ATL of the 64gb model.

          • @JMxoxo: yea. they all have their merits. unfortunately i've only heard complaints about windows on handhelds. if windows ever makes a dedicated version for handhelds that has a good suspend function then it'll destroy the market

    • wouldn't be as portable plus the screen is only 800p so you don't want it too big
