  • Does this have the port to add in a gpu?

    • -2

      It's a mini PC………… so no

    • via the M.2? yes possible but its lot of work not good look

    • +4

Well yes and no. These do have the ability to install a proprietary (clones available from aliexpress) 1/2 height riser and then a low powered card.

      Reference material here:

      <quote>
If you install a graphics card you should consider adding a heatpipe assembly which links the cooling to the main CPU blower.
Lenovo only installs 35W TDP CPUs in the discrete graphics card models, so bear that in mind. Please refer to the section below on "Heatsinks."
Don't expect too much in terms of graphics horsepower in a half height PCIe card limited to (in theory) 75W. Something like an AMD Radeon RX 560 as seen in STH's guide for the M920x, or the NVIDIA Quadro P620 2GB, which is what the P340 comes with.
@atflp says " there are newer Nvidia cards that fit into this tiny machine, like:
Nvidia T400 is like Quadro P620, just consumes less power.
Nvidia T600 is like Quadro P1000, but newer.
Nvidia T1000 is faster than the above cards."

Does this model have the header that the slot attaches to? AFAIK the model number doesn’t guarantee that it does.

        • +1

I bought 2 x 8500T M720q's from MetroCom and both of them came with the slot for the riser, risers were about $30~ from AliExpress if I remember correctly.. got them up and running no problems.

        • +1

The 2 units I have both have them - same model/cpu as here - different supplier

Forum seems to indicate in the table that they all do.

          YMMV!

      • I need a translator for this thread , sounds like rocket science 😱

  • Any i5 10500t coming up for sale?

    • Not likely to be soon.
These refurb deals come from fleet disposals, and organisations which run fleets of desktop workstations tend to have a four to five year renewal cycle.

That's why you're seeing some 9th gen workstations every now and then but you probably won't see a fleet of 10th gen workstations hit the market until late next year.

  • Interesting, only things stopping me from pulling the trigger are 16GB ram would be better and a pro license would be a nice bonus(but not critical I guess)

    • +1

ssd and ram are selectable on the listing…

  • Do these things play nice with Linux?

    • +3

Very. Low powered. No crashes running Proxmox for months

  • Do these have space internally to add a 3.5" HDD to use as a small home server?

    • +3

I believe you can only fit a 2.5" drive in there.

    • I don’t think so, probably a single 2.5” disk.
For a home server IMO a SFF like this one, which is quite a bit cheaper but has a slightly faster CPU and Windows 10 Pro licence is a better choice because of the internal space. I was using a G1 with 2x3.5” disks as a home server before I upgraded to a custom build. There are plenty of options on eBay, here is a tower model that will let you fit multiple HDDs and full size expansion cards for a similar price.

  • I got an M720Q Tiny i5 9400T 1.8GHz 16GB 256GB from ebay for $260 plus shipping. Purchased the riser from Ali and also an dual 2.5gbe Intel network card, can PCI pass through this for a Pfsense+ VM. Also loaded up some other LXC's running plex etc. Still not really sure how to know what resources to allocate. I upgraded to 32Gb ram however I think it can take 64GB, great

    • +1

Added 4 port NIC, 32GB ram. Running ESXi 8. Running VMs Pfsense, Adguard, PiAware

  • Got a couple of these, they have been great low power but capable HTPC's even with HEVC/h265 10bit up to 4k for those wondering.

  • How come the M700 is available with no SSD but not the M710Q? I'd prefer to get my own and know what I'm getting. Those selector boxes on the M710Q page are strange, choosing one thing negates choices in the other, and it's unclear whether it can be left as "-select-" to choose none.

    • Doubt they're customising these, probably loaded what they had into the listing so there's a few set options.

  • Deal seems to be back up on Ebay Plus at least, probably a different code though.
