Possibly one of the cheapest XPS 13 deals ever (only looked back 7y on ozb)

5% CW and SB on XPS models currently saves a further $52.15 reducing total price to $1095.15.

16gb ram, 512gb ssd upgrade brings to $1446.50 (minus any cashback).

Seems like it would be a great portable productivity laptop at 1.17kg. Happy shopping.

Any option with 16Gb makes it $$$…

    • Choosing 16gb ram seems to default ssd to 512gb.. so getting a bit more for your money

  • -1

Upto what size ram and storage upgradable?

    • +1

As I know xps13 has onboard rams. Can't change them.

    • If you are doing self install, not possible (both soldered).

  • +11

I missed the good old days when Dell was 20% off on eBay using sexy codes!

    • used to be less than $700 for some good deals with Dell….

  • +5

Is this sealed, no user upgrades? 300 bucks for 8gb ram is ridiculous.

Not if you don't need the extra storage you're not

    How about this for $999?

    • I think MSI as a brand is in tatters with build quality issues

      • +2

I think Dell's build quality is one of the worst out there. The XPS series is decent build but I have still seen hardware failures on them.

        • I can agree with this. Dell build quality used to be rock solid. But the recent latitude models that I get hands on are rubbish.

        • +5

Oh man if you think XPS laptops are one of the worst out there, you haven't seen 90% of windows laptops around the $1k range

          • +1

@brosk1s: Try reading that again. XPS are the only decent ones in the Dell lineup.

I have seen so many Dell laptops at work that had batteries die, screens come apart, hinges cracking that lead to screens coming apart. I personally owned a Studio series laptop that had to be repaired 3 times in 4 years. Heck, I have even remember a friend had a XPS laptop from about 10 years ago that had had some component fuse to the motherboard when the laptop got too hot

    • I have the 13th gen version from last deal - nice laptop no complaints

  • 4k@120hz for steaming on our new x90’s?

  • does anybody know of any laptop around 1k for beginner vlog editing? preferably 16 inch? this one doesn't have a dGPU

    • +3

Not 1k for 16" with decent screen, maybe 1600$~ range

      • how about the HP Victus 16 with 3050Ti for 1199 at JB Hifi? deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787818

some say 3050Ti is crap but it's literally cheaper than most ultrabooks out there that doesnt even have dGPU

        • +2

It gets worse: 45% NTSC screen, so 68% sRGB colour gamut.

    • +1

I'd look into the Pantone validated ASUS Vivobooks, but I don't think they come in 16 inch.

    • Not $1k, but not far off either:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788294

Pretty solid specs for the money, but don't think you'll get a dGPU+16 inch for ~$1k.

How is 8gb still a thing??!

Some places push shit. And some people think shit is fine too lol

    Is this legit https://emporiumelectronics.com.au/dell-xps-9315-13.4in-fhd-… ?
If so, it seems like a sweet deal

    • +2

Their ebay page is showing a feedback rating of 99.4% and have sold 670 items so that seems promising.

    • looks legit;

Aluminium is such a shit material for laptops. Almost zero ports and it's still 1.2kg.

    • +2

Thought metal in general better than plastic?

      • +6

Thinkpad X1 with titanium or carbon fibre is the way to go.

You don't want your laptop made out of the same stuff as your Nespresso pods. You have standards.

        • lol reading comment above! especially the Nespresso part!

        • +4

          What a stupid comment

        • +1

I highly recommend u don't fly, don't take trains or hop in a car, because those Nespresso pods are keeping you alive. Aluminum is heavily used in aircraft, trains and vehicles - it's very light, and stronger than steel in strength-to-weight! - Another reason why they use it in laptops besides feel, it adds minimal weight. The base model iPhones each Gen been using aerospace-grade aluminum too.

          • @cobknob: Not saying aluminium is bad, but carbon fibre is much lighter and more rigid than aluminium and steel. That's the reason why it's often used in aircraft.

Personally I agree with @manitchoral and find the material on Thinkpad X1 is better than XPS. But the design of XPS 13 is without a doubt a good one.

      • Depends on use case. Most seasoned cyclists would pick the carbon fibre bikes over the aluminium ones if the cost is not a concern.

Admittedly I do have my doubts as I saw how carbon fibre could crack. Maybe one day there's better material comes along, people would laugh at the cyclists paying a high price riding their plastic bikes.

Pretty sure it's designed to compete with the Macbook Airs, which weigh about the same.

We have a couple of 15" models at work, they're nice devices.

    • If it’s good enough for space shuttles…

      • Dell laptops crash more than space shuttles do.

  • XPS is probably the best quality laptops out there.. beautiful devices. I've only ever have XPS, reliable, tough and very good looking..

    • And next business day onsite warranty too

    • Macbook are better quality imo

      • If you can live with the apple ecosystem that is.

  • I've been waiting now over a year for the lenovo deal I got to come up again - 16GB, Ryzen 5 5600, RTX3060 - got it for 999. Anyone have any idea if something like that will ever come up again?

Still regret selling mine due to hope of finding a better deal. Still yet to see anything that beats it.

Don't buy Dell. I bought a used laptop from a bank. I logged into Dell, transferred ownership, and it showed I still had several months paid service call out or whatever it's called. When that expired they emailed me offering another extended service… but I already knew they no longer sold the battery for it! So they're happy to take your money for an extended warranty, but don't even have batteries after a couple of years! The only batteries available are on ebay, Amazon, etc and when you check past sales there's negative feedback for both that specific and other batteries, saying they use crap Chinese cells that last a third of the time. So Dell can get stuffed… I won't be buying another. And when this one finally dies I won't buying from any other manufacturer who doesn't supply parts for at least several years either. It would be different if laptops had made some amazing speed increase or something but they haven't. There's barely a difference between brand new today and a several year old "ancient" one with an SSD. Oh and this proprietary chip in the battery that fries itself if you swap the cells for quality Panasonics yourself… argh… just F—- DELL!

    • -1

Cool story, but good luck finding a hardware manufacturer offering more than a year on batteries, even Apple have a 12 month battery warranty.

      • -1

Not warranty on batteries after a year… NO batteries FOR SALE after a couple of years.

i.e. What's the point of paying for extended warranty protection or whatever Dell call it, when they no longer supply the most common failure point - batteries? They'll come out, see the battery doesn't hold charge, but I can't buy one from them. But they'll probably blame that, fix nothing I've paid them $$$ for. Like I said they should either be required by law to supply batteries for at least several years, or use generic ones that can have the cells replaced without frying some scummy proprietary chip inside the battery.

        • I call bullshit, because I've dealt with hundreds of Dell laptops over the years and have never had an issue sourcing batteries direct from them 3+ years after they were purchased when they happen to die, and again………. extended warranty doesn't cover batteries.

          • -1

@dav3: Oh wow… a whole extra 1! And it still doesn't change the other things I said. i.e. Their stupid proprietary chip that kills the board if you want to keep using the laptop that will probably last 12-15 years, particularly given, as I also said, they've given us no amazing speed increase.

        • You're trying to guess what Dell will do. They possibly have internal stock for customers on an extended warranty.

Or they may even replace the laptop if they can't replace the battery.

I wouldn't criticise them without knowing.

    • so you bought a used laptop but expect full service experience…… i wanna believe

  • dell is very low quality, hardly lasts past their warranty period!

  • This deal seems to have long since expired as it's nowhere to be found on Dell's online store and the deal link goes nowhere.

The cheapest XPS 13 is currently this model.
