    No love for Melbourne?

    • +1

ANA don't fly to Melbourne at this time.

    • +1

Knowing JAL and Qantas, I'd also bet Melbourne flights would go to Narita were the route picked up by ANA. A shame given Haneda is much closer to Tokyo.

    • really wish it did

    • Pretty sure all the jetstar free return deals are the same period of time and include melbourne

      • +1

It's just not direct, usually via cairns or brissy

      • Yeah, but it's Jetstar…I need a return flight

    • Qantas and JAL flights have been around 1k recently. Narita airport but what's an extra 30 minutes or so.

  • +2

Wow not a bad price from Perth

    • Why flights are so expensive from Perth?

      • +34

Because everyone earns $500k p.a. to dig holes.

        • Lol, fair enough then

        • 😂 practically

      • +5

Mainly because there isn't any competition for nonstop flights to Japan from Perth

  • +3

The ANA and Virgin Australia partnership came into effect a few days ago so make sure you put your VA number in for points and credits (though no lounge access to VA Plat/Gold at the moment for some reason).

    • +2

and extra luggage only on VA codeshare

      • Interesting, I didn't catch that, good to know!

    • For anyone who's done a codeshare VA -> ANA, do you need to pick up luggage and transfer from domestic to international terminals or is that all handled?

      • +1

If you buy ticket all together on one ticket, bags go through to tokyo.
But not on return because of customs.

  • Good price

  • -5

    "Widebody"

    • +1

two aisles makes a jet widebody

Up in the back few rows of a 787 it's definitely not wide though!

      • -1

The Dreamliner is indeed a "widebody" but you will not feel it the way airlines stack passengers with their configurations.

  • Great deals OP! ANA are fantastic.
Might be more of a unique situation but this doesn't include one way as far as I can see? I'm going for working holiday next year so cheap one way flights would save me a lot coming back here a year later.

    • No problem.

Unfortunately not with ANA or JAL. Jetstar may be an option?

  • +1

    ANA is a great airline.

  • +3

ANA is my favourite. Generally I don’t like the flight food, but their food is second to none, I won’t turn it down if I am offered a second piece.

    • 100% agree

    • +1

Yea but as far as flight food standards go they're definitely up there

    • +1

Haven't travelled with ANA but I can say the same about JAL. Everything about the flights were perfect. Was travelling to Paris from Sydney about a year ago.

      • +1

I found the seat on JAL was quite small in business class and their food offering even though presented well was not that good. Maybe I was spoiled for choice at their Haneda lounge.

  • What would be ANA's lowest for business class to Japan and back? $2500-3000?

    • +1

They had a special for a bit over $3k back in April and May, so that might be a reasonable target price. Going to depend on dates obviously.

    • +3

Hopefully not, you would expect decent air-conditioning on planes these days

  • +1

Is ANA service and planes better than JAL?

    • I believe it's generally considered that it is.

      • +1

Planes aren't, JAL has 8 abreast on its dreamliners compared to the more pokey 9 abreast on ANA. Service wise too they both pretty good and it would be hard to split them. Good price for ANA though

    • +1

IMO; JAL's economy seats are better than ANA's. ANA's Business & Premium Economy seats shit all over JAL's. This assumes you don't wind up on ANA's regional B787's though, which are an inferior version of their international version and flies to Australia a few times a month. Those planes are just awful.

      • How do you tell if you have the regional variant as opposed to the international one, based on the seat map? The Sydney -> Haneda route links to a B787-9 seat map.

        • You won't know too far in advance . Having a look at recent flight history the B787-8 hasn't flown it in a little while, but I got stiffed with it a few months back. The problem for me is I actually do work when in Business Class and their crappy cradle seats aren't very good in terms of space whereas in the B787-9 I was able to have my iPad and my Laptop going at the same time.

Mid to late March is cherry blossom season in Honshu, interesting that you can get cheap flights for this time of year. Although its a bit more crowded in some areas (eg the gardens or around some of temples) and some areas can be more expensive (Kyoto…) its a great time to travel weather wise.

    • It’s a bit too late for snow though.

    • We are going in Mid March next year.. any tips on what to pack weather wise for the Honshu area? Is it still fairly chilly during this time?

      • +1

Can still be pretty chilly that time of year i.e. sub 20 degrees.

      • +4

Depends where you are going but main locations (Kyoto, Tokyo etc) its a touch cooler than a Sydney winter (mid teen maximums) especially at night (low single digits). If you are inland (Matsumoto or Takayama etc) then its colder.

Most days long pants, long sleeve shirt, jumper or fleece top. A lightweight or mid weight down jacket is always very useful because it adds a lot of warmth for very little weight or suitcase space (Aldi might have a few still around, they were on sale recently and are ideal; the macpac ones on sale at the moment might be a bit warm but you can just wear them over a tshirt or leave them unzipped). Perhaps a beanie just in case. You can obviously buy stuff in Japan if you get stuck. If you are temple hopping remember you will be taking your shoes off a lot so wear warmer/thicker socks so your feet dont get cold on the wood floors.

You will also get a few days of rain but an umbrella is generally all you need rather than serious wet weather gear. Plenty of indoor things to do if you know its going to rain.

        • Thank you that's super helpful! Thinking about whether to pack my super light weight down jacket or my mid weight longline down jacket. I'm also going to be in Hokkaido for a week with a few days skiing, so trying to be smart about the jackets I bring, as I bought the ski jacket from Aldis snow sale too with the intention of bringing that.

  • +1

No surprise, school holiday period is not covered.

  • +1

good prices, wish there were some 2 week trip options though

  • How do you access these rates?

When I click on "09/Oct - 17/Oct" It shows me prices for all airlines for those dates, and when I pick "ANA only", the cheapest price shown is $1301. What am I doing wrong?

    • +1

Only certain date combos work for these fare. Generally aim for mid week departures (Tuesday/Wednesday)

Try this (not your dates specifically, but close to it)

      • Thanks OP - these are all 1-2 stops though. I'm also having trouble finding anything sub-$1200 for direct flights in October.

  • oh wow not bad for feb to japan, could do a snow trip however ive got a wife and 2 kids and i doubt my wife would let me know for 2 weeks to the snows lol

    • I'm heading there for the Sapporo Snow Festival. Heard that's usually fantastic!

      • Awesome enjoy!!!

  • +1

    Any flights from Brisbane?

  • The price I found is through mytrip.com.
Would MUCH rather go through airline direct given recent issues with airlines…

  • Looking for another ANA business class sale. Anyone know if there’s one any time soon based on historical data?

    • +2

There was one not so long ago.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783897

Difficult to say when the next one is. However I will keep an eye out for you

      • I just missed out on that deal…I was shattered :(( thanks mate please do. I appreciate it!

  • great price for ANA, direct flights, haneda airport

  • ANA flights showing for 1301 for syd?

  • Oh … why did I book with Jetstar earlier this week ! 😢

(Maybe it's ok I'm leaving last week of September and these deals are for October?)

  • Is the best way to farm ANA miles to convert Virgin points from credit card offers?

  • +1 for CBR based and Japan

  • +1

Are these $1045 Perth flights through Mytrip.com? I'm getting very confused trying to navigate through trying to book.

  • No chance there'll be similar deals for multi-city flights? E.g. Syd-Tokyo, Osaka-Syd.

  • -1

Of course my son & friend want to go mid-Jan to mid Feb. Why no deals then? Not a high time for anything?

    • There were, I bought 20th of Jan to 2nd of Feb for $1050 return JAL, from Melbourne though, not sure about Sydney.

  • i just want some good deals from sydney to sapporo end jan going into feb. is it to much to ask?

  • I booked these ANA return flights through VA (so my local flights were connected) but I can’t get a clear indication of my luggage allowance. I’m hoping I have two check on bags all the way through, or at least for the international leg. Does anyone know?

Also, I can’t seem to select my seats for the ANA flights. I called ANA and they couldn’t help - they said to call Virgin. Called Virgin, they said to call ANA :( is this just the norm with booking this way?
