    These chips are so addictive!

    • +3

Sure, if you like your gums torn to shreds.

      • +2

The key is to pace yourself :p

    • +5

It's the sodium and artificial enhances and flavourings

    • I haven't had the chilli recently but the other flavours were $3 something a few weeks ago so I got some. They were all awful. What the heck happened!? The honey ham one was the one I liked most but it was like eating plain.

  • +29

DAE feel bad when you sit down on the couch with a bag of these share packs and a six pack of beer and think oh man I’ll just pour out 1 portion… then before you know it it’s all gone? 🥺 asking for a mate.

    • +14

Trick is to pour some (say 1/4 of the pack) in a bowl, rather than eat from the packet. That way once the bowl is empty you can't just keep going.

      • +16

Sad times when you look up 1/4 pack of pack and it says 1/4 pack is enough serves to feed small African village.

        • Well if it says that, to be fair, African villages are much smaller now since they're all hopping on rubber rafts to Europe with their new Nikes and iphones. So a pack probably goes a lot further.

      • +31

the other trick is to not buy them and not eat them and not feel guilty either.

        • +3

the other trick is to not buy them and not eat them

          this 1 simple trick 🥺

        • +5

Is this the power of a god?

        • If you dont see this at such good value and not buy it then you are guilty for letting the deal slip.

          Hand in your ozb license

          • @KnifeEnthusiastBoi: I guess people go apeshit when they see 50% off but the RRP has increased significantly (40% or so). May be a deal but still not cheap. I don't know one person that would pay full price for junk like this ha.

            • @G-rig: They were $3-something in the last few weeks. And as i said above, the flavours have changed. Just awful. So weak now! Won't be getting them again no matter what the price, unless I read somewhere they've fixed them again.

              • @[Deactivated]: Fair enough.
Not planning to buy any crisps, pure crap

        • WORD.

      • +8

Untill you fill up the bowl again.
        Takes some willpower haha.

The RRP out of control. Clever of the supermarkets so people get sucked into half price sales.

        • +3

Is it only me or does the "half price", price, appear expensive as hell? I wouldn't pay this as the normal price.

          • @SimAus007: Yes, gotta draw the line somewhere.
Big packet but still.. $2-3 max would be enough for shit food.

      • +2

I follow the 1/4 rule but with the tweak of putting 1/4 into 4 bowls. Then proceed to munch from all 4.

  • +12

Buy the dip. Sell on the rebound.

    • +1

      Like a sour-cream or a salsa dip?

    • +1

      Hodl!

  • Last deal my local didn’t have it on the shelves. I’m going early this time.

    • +3

Protip: if they dont have it get a raincheck!

      • if it's not on catalogue, they won't give raincheck.
        I haven't checked whether it's on catalogue

        • +1

I checked Coles raincheck policy and nowhere does it say item needs to be in the catalogue, it just says sale price.

          • @billy_bob: hopefully you're right, then I could force them to give a raincheck next time.

the staff at my nearest Coles insisted that it has to be on catalogue.
            https://au.news.yahoo.com/coles-shopper-shares-little-known-….

"Customers can ask for a raincheck if a product is advertised in Coles weekly catalogue but unavailable, a Coles spokesperson said."

            • +1

@babiguling: I could only find the Canstar "fact checked" version of the policy, Coles don't seem to have it on their website. I will call them to insist they put it on there.

UPDATE: just spent the last hour talking to Coles "customer service" and they confirmed the Raincheck policy IS applicable to ANY on sale (yellow ticketed) item in the store (not just catalogue items), as long as the price ticket does not say "No Rainchecks".

They also confirmed (and this is absurd!!) that they will NOT put the policy in writing, online or on a brochure/pamphlet for customers to access it. When I asked why not, they just plainly refused to answer. Seriously, WTF !!!

So if anyone gets refused a Raincheck because the item was not in the catalogue, I urge you to call Coles Customer Assistance on 1800 061 562 and name and shame the store. It is crazy that their own employees don't know the policy and are pissing customers off by not implementing it correctly!!

              • @billy_bob: Interesting, but my experience is the same as above where it has to be a catalogue special to get a raincheck.

                • @Craze: I recorded the conversation I had with Coles Customer Service, so if the store tries to refuse a Raincheck, I will just play them the recording ;)

  • +8

I like Aldi sprinters potato chips they used to be $2 a pack for 250 grams but now $2.80 -$2.90 but still cheaper than the rest.

    • +1

Lol. Just polished off a bag of original crinkle cut with no added MSG. Great value chips.

      • +11

Mfs will eat chips and act healthy because they avoided the big bad msg 😂😂

        • Murica!

      • +2

No added MSG? Why do you hate taste, bro?

        • I don't avoid it. There is a big "no added MSG" written on the pack so it must be important to some sector of the community.

          • +5

@Muzeeb: People who are still deeply influenced by the racist MSG scaremongering of the 80s/90s.

            • @Munki: I grew up in the 80s with regular visits to my parents favourite Chinese restaurant. I'm no stranger to legit added MSG.

              • @Muzeeb: I was more so referring to the bit you were talking about it being important to a sector of the community.

        • Yeah any MSG bargains?

      • Doesn't sound great value if you have to add your own MSG ;).

    • +1

Now that price sounds reasonable, paying $4 for crisps to me just sounds absurd, and $8, I mean really?

  • +42

$8 chips… we’re indeed in the end times!

    • +6

It's wasn't that long ago $4.50 was the normal price right? Crazy….

    • +7

Yeah who is paying $8 for 350g of chips?! Even $4 is over priced

      • +2

Yeah I'm unlikely to pay $4 unless there's some special occasion, $8 they're having a laugh.

  • +4

Love it when I eat them, hate them next morning 😬

    • Really wow, unlucky

    • +5

They say chilli is the only flavour you can taste twice

      • 😂

    Best chip deal? Sacrilege…

Red Rock 165gm Salt & Vinegar for $2.84 S&S delivered from Amazon www.amazon.com.au/Red-Rock-Chip-Salt-Vinegar/dp/B0157SELHM

    • +2

Mate, this is $4 for 300g and you got the OG.

      • +1

Guess not everybody knows how to maths.

        • Maths is fine, but taste is qualitative, not quantitative.

For the trigger-happy neggers out there, I apologise for not making it clearer that my comment was reflective of salt & vinegar's undisputed position atop the chip flavour heirarchy, rather than the price per gram of potato.

          What's an OG?

  • +1

    $4 (Was $8)

So I handed my ozbargain batch at the checkout when I bought this

This deal is for rich people. I can only go to supermarket and stare at the moment:(

Even at $4 is so unreal.

    • +1

To be fair, this is the 300g deal

      • +1

        BNPL it

    • Or free sampling in costco…

    • +1

ikr, $8 for a bag of chips lmao, when did this happen??

  • not sure if this is in all stores (300g bags) just did a search and they don't even come up….only shows in this link
there is always the Aldi brand ones.

    • Only Woolworths as far as I know sells 300g.

Everyone keeps going "wow it's too much".

PIS: it's the 300g bag i.e. nearly double the "normal" pack size

      • yes, but if you can't get it at the $4 because there is no stock sold at Coles, then not much of a saving lol…they are $6 at Woolies atm

      • They're also half (or more) the flavour they used to be. I don't know what people are getting excited about… they're so weak now it's like eating plain.

  • MFW I swing by every Coles near me only to find empty shelves:

Chips used to be 250g standard size, all the companies have spent years slowly shrinking the bag sizes down so small to the point i have seen 140g "big" bags… now they have the gall to sell a 300g bag and make a big song and dance about how big it is… what a joke, and they want $8 usually?!!

    • +3

When I was a young lad, chips came in a 5kg bag. That was enough to last the family for 12 to 18 months.

      • +1

and we lived in a hole beside the road…

    • Next they’ll shrink the big bags from 300g to 140g and the 140g to the fun size packets.

    • +1

I only ever remember chips being in 200g bags in the past. How far back does 250g go?

  • +2

Yikes, who in their right mind would pay $8???

    • +3

People that don't know any better. Colesworth price jack strat for record profits. Jack up prices to ridiculous amounts and then add high discounts to make people believe they're getting a good deal when they're paying regular full prices anyway. A small amount will keep paying the full $8 as well as these deals become more scarce.

      • +2

Oh how I wish the ACCC had actual power and could fine the hell out of these companies / break them up due to continual disingenuous advertisements.

  • +1

In the year 2050 your kids will be eating potato chip flavoured chips because they're too poor to afford real artificial flavoured chips like their boomer parents were in the 2020's.

  • +2

$8 for a small bag of potato chips (and more than half is just air). What a great time for living!
Pretty sure they are made of gold, no wonder why so expensive.

    • +7

I'm not sure what world you live in where 300 grams is a small bag of chips. I'd imagine chairs would have to be a lot more heavy duty in such a world.

      • +1

Not small, still not worth $4. Charging $8 is a slap in the face.

      • +1

I remember Costco had those crinkle cut chips that were like kettles but harder and could tear up your gums and break your teeth. Selling in 900g bags.

    • To be fair, it’s nitrogen, slightly more costly than just air ;)

      • I hear it's important they give you that much to keep you from getting a bag full of broken chips

  • No option to buy for some reason

  • +1

The undisputed king of the Chippery Championship Cup

  • +1

Thanks to inflation it's now $10 for 1 kg pack at costco. One thing for sure they have upgraded the spicyness.

    • For sure, they kicking my nose

    • Don’t think I’ve seen 1kg chips in a single bag in my life. Seg faults my brain lol Thank goodness I’m far from Costco.

      • +1

Oops my bad it's only 650g…

    • Forget the 1kg bag of Chilli chips, they need to stock up on the Kirkland Pink Himalayan Salt chips is what they need to do!

    • It is $12 now at Costco Canberra for the 650g

  • +3

Who's paying $8 dollars for 300gms of chips?

  • +2

Hell nah, potato prices have dropped as well as vegetable oil.

Makes it easier to cut down eating processed junk when it’s a financial scam too. $2.75 was much more palatable for the mind.

  • +1

The Aldi Blackstone chilli chips are pretty good, flavour wise is not as good imo and more peppery-hot than chilli-hot but overall obviously much better value than these Kettle chips at RRP
