Any good deals on MX500 or other 2.5" drives?

  • P3 Plus or MSI Spatium M461?

  • Hey ChatGPT

  • worth it to get the p3 Plus gen4?
have a b550i motherboard and will reuse the drive later when i upgrade to am5

    • Yep. If you've got access to a chipset using PCIe 4, the speed difference on the P3 plus over the P3 is profound, and well worth the small price increase. In 1Tb and above models, you're looking at read/write comparisons of 5000/4200mb per sec on the P3 Plus vs 3500/3000mbs on the P3.

If you're constrained by an older chipset with PCIe 3.0 just loking for the cheapest option though, the 1TB P3 is the current bang for buck champion, and can be had for just $57 via Amazon UK using their 12% discount at; https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0B25LZGGW

      • thanks i might get this
how does it rate over the sk hynix p41?

whats the best bang for buck 2tb or higher capacity drive?

      • if there was a way to stick 2 or 4 of them into a 2.5" or 3.5" adapter cheaply in raid 0 that would be the ultimate deal

        • Icydock do them, but all at silly prices. And you need 2.5" SATA HDD to NVMe adapter shells, plus cables to convert Mini-SAS to U.2, and then link to one or two 8643 connectors depending on the PCIe add-in card you install- for early chipsets (no bifurcation) you have to get one w a PCIe switch chipset built in (and IO logic on chip), this can be costly, and for later chipsets supporting bifurcation, its quite easy but you do need to take care of the number of available PCI lanes- and what they connect to

Best to use a plug-in PCIe card, with 2 or 4 NVME slots- and forget about wiring/mounting and removing them

          • @resisting the urge: yeah unfortunately no go for an ITX setup lol

next best thing is just stick it in a nas

or one of those asustor external solutions

  • Any idea how the $62.25 1TB P3 compare to a $35.07 USD ~ $52.22 AUD
    1TB Kingspec from AE?
