Google Nexus 7 8GB $239 + $19 = $258 Shipped

410

Kogan is selling the Google Nexus 7 :

Google Nexus 7 (8GB) $239
Google Nexus 7 (16GB) $279

I think shipping is the same - $19

Does any other online retailer sell it as cheap?

Can't seem to find any others without exorbitant shipping.

Gonna get some for family !

  • Head to Officeworks with the website for price match + 5% more off if you have the gift cards http://mynexustablet.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/nexus-7-hard-to…

    • They don't stock 8gb model

      • Nobody stocks 8gb model :(

        • No, not in Australia unfortunately.

  • Anyone know of any coupon codes that still work?

  • +1

officeworks only has the 16gb one on their website plus don't think they would price match since kogan stocks imported stuff and not aus versions.

    • +2

What is Aussie version stock, it's all online. Even from the play store. Only issue might be with ASUS, but as their warranty for the unit is poor, I doubt you get much of a benefit purchasing it from an "Australian" source.

      • +4

With so many reports on the poor quality control on the Nexus 7, I think it will be better to buy directly from retail shops so you can have it changed or refunded immediately once you find yourself having a defect unit.

        • +2

Kogan has a 14 day money back guarantee. So it's almost as good as buying retail.

        • +1

Nope, still doesn't work. They will still have to get a return authorization from ASUS and will not take back. I had a dead pixel and Harvey Norman wouldn't take it back. ASUS dead pixel policy is 3-8 dead pixels min.

        • +6

Maybe you didn't try hard enough.

Dead pixel can be view as either failing acceptable quality or not fit for purpose, and you are entitled to a refund.

E.g you bought the tablet to view a photo, it can't display the full photo, therefore isn't fit for purpose.

Harvey Norman can only get away with it, if they had specifically told you that there was a dead pixel on the screen before you bought it.

The 3-8 pixel is Asus's policy, but it doesn't remove your statuary/consumer rights.

          http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/the_acl/downloads/cons…

        • Harvey Norman's after sales service is below par for big stores.

Dead pixel issue on LG IPS screens seems to happen more often than LCD screens from other makers. I returned 2 Dell Ultrasharp monitors due to dead pixel issues (had to use the 14 day satisfaction guarantee). My cheap Chinese brand Android tablet has a dead pixel as well. My mate's first iPad 2 had a few dead pixels as well (he was able to get it swapped).

If you are getting a device that has IPS screen, I think it is worthwhile getting it from a store that has satisfaction guarantee. LG really should improve their quality control.

        • LG aren't trying to optimise for quality, they optimise for price. For instance if a manufacturer like samsung makes a batch of panels they will grade them. Companies like Apple/sony will buy only the best batches, and pay a higher price. LG and XYZ chinese vendors will buy the cheapest batches (largest defect rate in tested samples).

So, when shopping for a monitor, I don't look at LG. But someone might well end up with a very nice IPS panel with zero defects from LG. For me quality is more important, and not surprisingly it cost more to produce.

Vote with you wallet, or choose the vendor that does the right thing.

        • +2

Thing is Apple use LG as an LCD panel supplier and they also have dead pixel issue. Like I said, my mate who bought an iPad 2 recently and it came with a cluster of dead pixels. You cannot just rely on the brand name.

The key is buy it from someone who will offer satisfaction guarantee in terms of full refund or a brand new replacement within the first 14 days of purchase (e.g. OfficeWorks, Target, Apple, Dell etc…)

        • This will apply to KOGAN too remember.
Australian store, selling to Australian people. Doesnt matter where the goods came from.

Virtual or not, its an australian registered business.

      • No support from local manufacturers unless it's got international warranty and compliant things like power adapter, software, region. Plus anything goes wrong u gotta send it back to kogan and they deal with it, retailers most likely swap it around or refund it when faulty under ACL now.

Yes I know first hand about Asus after sales services but I rather spend a bit more and go to my local Officeworks and get it swapped around than wait for a week or two to get it fixed. They got a pretty easy going returns policy.

        • -1

But this is Google's after sales service. Its a Google associated product - Google wouldn't want to risk ruining their rock solid reputation.

        • Google does not have international warranty on their badged products. I would rather spend a few dollars for a store warranty.

      • the pricematch there was for topbuy i think that is also a grey import as well.

  • errr, quick question. Why would you buy this over the one you can buy via Google Play?

  • $308 for the 16GB shipped from Kogan will only save $6 from buying locally.

    • So… not really worth it I don't think. $6 for peace of mind I'm inclined to think.

    • Exactly. Not worth it when you can walk out of a store with one. Great little tablet, bought one for the wife's birthday a couple of weeks back.

      • No, to get it today, I would rather pay 6 dollar honestly. Can I still call myself an ozbargainer? =)

  • So tempting, but there is a rumour of a 3G version coming out…

    • I'm waiting for this too. Want it for on the go, not at the mercy of wifi range…

      • tether to your phone, simples

    • I always have my phone with me when I'm not somewhere that has wifi, and tethering is so simple I don't miss the lack of 3G at all. The only thing I really miss is vibration.

  • +2

isnt a 10" coming out? Any news on that?

    • -1

No official news, just rumours. It would be silly not to expect one, of course, but the real question is release date and specs.

  • -5

New kindle fire and ipad mini to be confirmed/unconfirmed soon….

  • -3

Can you buy this from Google Play? I put it in cart and go to checkout but it says it does not ship to this address? It's Australian address. There is no other country to select except US.

    • -4

Whoever down-voted my post above is an idiot. I simply asked a question if Google Play ships this device to Australia? If you know the answer you could have just responded.

I wanna determine if my account is the problem or they don't ship.

    down down prices are down

  • JB Hifi has the 16gb one for $314 and with a $30 giftcard you could get it for $284

    • +19

Or with a $300 giftcard you can get it for $14. But that's beside the point.

  • got mine from bing lee @279 delivered :)

  • it was $279 on thursday, $289 friday but yea i agree with u its $319 lol

    • It was $265 for the 16GB from Bing Lee with 5FACEOFF code. Free postage from courier.

  • +9

When google sell these for $199 here I will consider buying.

    No Island Tax 4 me.

My Galaxy Nexus from Kogan had a hardware fault, brand new, only 30 minutes use - They replaced it with someone else's scratched up refurbished phone. The prices are too good to refuse, but next time I will refuse. Beware, warranty is not what you expect it to be.

    • Lol, and your name says dontreadthis.xP
I just bought and S3 from them, hope I do not need to use their warranty.

    • So… is it Samsung's fault or Kogan's fault?

      • Kogan's, it gets sent to their repair facility in Melbourne. The warranty is covered by them and not samsung. They must have a huge pile of returns which are fixed under agreement with a local repair provider and are sent back out as replacements when returns come in.

        • I think it is Samsung's fault for having shitty QCs in the first instance.

Post purchase issues - not too sure, I haven't encountered any. But I did pay a big premium for having an Apple..

  • This might sound fanboyish… OK, I am a fan boy and wouldn't buy that.
But, if you are in the market, then why wouldn't you wait a little to hear the announcements from Apple and others.
    Competition, and choice are good.

    • Latest news has the smaller iPad to be announced in october so it'll be a month away at least before announcement, and even longer till it starts shipping. Also given apples pricing there's no way it'll be under $300.
This is a good price for a very nice tablet.

    • Are Apple planning to release their next iPad with Android?

  • -1

You get $25 credit on Google Play if you buy it from Google though.

    • +1

INCORRECT. You still get it if you purchased it from retailers (e.g. OfficeWorks, EB Games, JB, Bing Lee, Harvey Norman).

Not sure whether if you purchased a tablet that belongs to a different region, Google will let you have the $25 credit in the region you actually live in. Don't know whether you get the $25 credit if you purchased from Kogan (imported ones from overseas perhaps??).

Also, $25 credit offer ends 30/09/2012.

    It is $244.00 on Becextech
    http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2…

Then there is the $70 Freight cost.

But I got it price matched at Office Works and got it for $238.50 :D

    • Pics or it didn't happen :D

    • The 8GB version is selling there for $190 + $74 shipping cost = crazy.

      Here is the receipt:
      http://www.tiikoni.com/tis/view/?id=1663ddb

Also to just note that Officeworks only sells the 16GB

They Looked at my printout and it doesn't say the shiiping cost
so they didn't know about it and gave it to me as is.

      • Oh man! I only saw this after I've bought the tablet during dinner time just now. Am I able to get refund on the extra money I've paid if I show the receipt?

        • You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

      • how do you pricematch? like what do i tell the salesmen ?

      • Caveman bro, could you reupload the receipt? they reject becextech rightaway after I showed it to them, im not lucky bro. ahhahaha

  • +1

I sold a couple today at Officeworks for price matching these… few sites don't state shipping cost unless u register accounts and validate through email, it's to trouble some, also Officeworks are not allowed to register accounts on sites at work computers. in the end we just sold them for the price shown on the site, so shipping costs won't be added.

    • Out of curiosity; which sites? :)

  • Kogan is certainly the cheapest around
