I can't track the 'gens' for the varieties of iPads … what year of release is this (and therefore how long can I expect it to be supported?)

      • +1

2021, support for another 5 years I'm guessing.

    64gb? WTF? No thanks.

    • +5

It's okay if you just use it for browsing or streaming, plus the odd app.

    • I have the old 2019 7 model with 64GB, outside of League of legends and PUBG (2GB total), its just been used for streaming.

    • Same. Needs 128GB to replace my current older gen iPad, but no such model availble. Next model up (256GB) is very expensive and not discounted.

  • this or Air? happy with 64GB

    • the iPad Air it’s a much more powerful and versatile device. It is also very expensive (it has m1 chipset). What do you want to use for?

  • +1

Need a magic keyboard with smart connector because iPad no longer charge via USB C. But it is cheaper to get a new iPad!

    • Have you gone to Apple Store? How old is your tablet?

      • Second gen iPad Pro 12.9". Don't live near Apple Store unfortunately

        • +1

So it’s a fairly new model (you mention usb c). Take to store they’ll probably replace it/fix even if older than 2 years (as long as no physical damage) . Just as long as not very old. Worth a shot imo.

@fozzie: For free? I have heard that Apple charges an arm and leg for port repairs?
But, I will make a trip one day.
            Thanks !

@congo: Australian consumer law it’s minimum 2 years. Yesterday I went with my AirPods Pro that are 2.5 years to Apple Store. They still replaced them for free. So depending on age and whether there is physical damage they might fix it/replace for free. We How old is your iPad?

              • @fozzie: 4 years old I think.

                • +1

@congo: I would definitely pop in Apple Store (book genius). On another thread they got 4 years old AirPods (normal) replaced. Worse case scenario they’ll say no. Just argue consumer rights and that you would expect longer life for a charging port on a $1000+ tablet. Good luck!

  • Do Apple store price match?

Yes. In store in person or on phone

  • I have an iPad Air that I was using for the kids, it now can't install Youtube app as it's stuck on iOS 12

at least it still runs youtube kids

  • was hoping this deal is not from officeworks to gen an extra 5%…

  • +1

FYI, this is the same as the Amazon Prime deals a couple weeks ago (OW, Amazon, etc all had the same prices over those days).

    • We'll it's not a great deal either way.

Both the iPad 9 and 10 are great devices, but they are severely hamstrung with that base 64GB Storage. You won't really be able to take advantage of their full features. That base storage is going to be a problem for OS updates, App downloads, and File Storage. Maybe back in 2016 it was fine but certainly not in 2024.

If they had that iPad 10th in the 256GB Storage for say AUD $499, then yeah I'd hop on board too. At this point you're still better off buying a used model, at least that's my feeling.

      • Either with more storage would be a good buy. There isn’t enough difference in performance to justify tenth gen iPad. If one was prepared to pay for a tenth gen I would seriously look at an M1 iPad Air with even more grunt.

Have been tossing between this and sams s6 lite, went with this as more powerful and better screen for web browsing. Negative for me is going though stupid hoops of apple fully broken authentication system and living with lighting port.

    • feel this. Need something for uni with a pen but also want usbc. S6 lite just felt a bit slow with the s pen

  • Anyone have a case recommendation?
