Free XL Mousepad (800x300) if you pay via bank transfer

With a bank transfer or a debit card there is NO shopper protection, always use a credit card (second place for PayPal) when you buy something valuable and bulky.

    • +1

Hey there, you are still protected under Australian Consumer Law.

      • +21

This is a misdirect. The ACL gives consumers statutory rights to be enforced against suppliers. Credit card protections generally give you contractual rights to be enforced against your financial services provider, which then takes the fight to the supplier. Skip the free mousepad; and sleep better.

        • +5

A misdirect was not the intention.

          • +3

            @enigmapc:

you are still protected under Australian Consumer Law

But that is something totally unrelated to the shopper protection offered by a credit card or PayPal.

            • +4

@billadm: Is it more about saving on EFTPOS merchant fees and passing on the saving with a gift?

              • @CleverCounter: It's your choice, you can save money now and get a free mouse pad but you might need shopper protection if things go wrong.
Lets say an item you buy which is not as described or not properly functioning so good luck struggling with merchant's repair memo scripts like reinstall Windows and or bring the item back here or post it.

                • +2

@billadm: I can’t say I have used cc shopper protection in my life. What is the actual benefit?

                  • +2

@Variableaperture: If anything goes wrong with your purchase and you want the money back but the vendor doesn't listen, you contact your financial institution and apply for a charge back if you paid with the credit card.
Depending on your bank and the response from the vendor's bank, the operation can take up to one month until the money goes back to your bank account.
You must provide proof of invoice and communication with the vendor or any other document your bank will ask.
The vendor can fight back but they must support their claim with solid evidence.
I did this operation a few times and I always got the money back.

      • -1

Why would you offer incentives to not pay with methods which offer consumer protections if that wasn't more profitable to you?

And if it's more profitable for you, then how could that be the case if it's not because it saves you money on returns, refunds etc provided by those contractual protections?

        • +11

The reason for offering the incentive is to reduce merchant fees related to payments via credit card and paypal. Reducing any kind of consumer protections did not even cross our mind when creating this incentive because returns, payment disputes or paypal disputes has never been an issue for us. We take care of our customers in accordance with our warranty and returns policy.

It has nothing to do with returns or contractual protections or anything else. We provide the same level of warranty to all our customers regardless of their payment method.

    • +3

Yeah this is false. You're trying to imply that you sacrifice some kind of consumer protections by performing bank transfers, but as long as a receipt of purchase is received you have the exact same guarantees.

      • +1

I also don't understand this rallying behind credit cards. This "purchase protection" is just giving banks more money for something that really isn't necessary.

I have had a macbook pro a year out of warranty fully refunded under ACL. I would like to see their purchase protection do that.

Before PayPal was around, purchasing via bank transfer was a completely normal practice. Now it's a bad thing somehow. The banks must be loving all the extra fees they're getting.

        • -1

purchasing via bank transfer was a completely normal practice

No shopper protection, it looks like you never read their t&o.

The banks must be loving all the extra fees they're getting

Often people have a credit card because they need it plus some cards have no monthly fees - profit & share.
And now when you pay by debit card some merchants charge a transaction fee like you were overseas and using a foreign card = you're right, the banks must be loving all the extra fees they're getting!

          • @billadm:

No shopper protection, it looks like you never read their t&o.

You are still protected by ACL which makes shopper protection largely unnecessary, that was my point.

some cards have no monthly fees

Per watyoulookat's comment below, the merchant, in this case a small business, still pays credit card transaction fees. So the bank still makes more money.

            • -2

              @Ryballs:

You are still protected by ACL

Seriously, you don't know what is the difference between shopper protection offered by a credit card and the ACL, also mind to explain what the ACL does for you other than making statements?

So the bank still makes more money.

That is exactly my point, a shopper uses a debit card and pays a commission fee like using it oversea while there is no shopper protection which has nothing to do with the ACL.
Please do your homework before making non sense statements.

              • -1

                @billadm:

also mind to explain what the ACL does

                Google it mate.

using it oversea while there is no shopper protection

We're not talking about overseas transactions, we're talking about buying a PC from an Australian business. Nice try though.

                • -3

@Ryballs: shockpuppeting is the answer when you can't support your uneducated statements.
The ACL does nothing, they only make statements.
And your copy & paste about oversea transactions is just trolling.
                  Educate yourself mate.

                  • @billadm: Banks in Australia is bad, vary bad.

if you are selling your services then it's still ok, because you don't have much overhead cost.
but when selling a goods with solid costs and very transparent industry, it's a nightmare.

Paying with whatever method, dose not waive the merchant's obligation. especially a business lives in OZB, reputation makes them alive.

CC or PayPal only makes consumer pays more and banks laughing.

if you pay by PayPal, i have just checked, the fee is $68.
my Westpac charges CC 1.1%, $26

but how much will the seller making?

                    $100? $200?
the bank and PayPal has done nothing but taking $26-$68 of you- buyers hard earning, and makes the merchant difficult to live.

In this case, I fully support the merchant.

                    • @watyoulookat:

Banks in Australia is bad, vary bad.

In fact the government had to step in with a Federal investigation.
But I'm stating things here as a buyer so all the numbers you put here mean nothing to me.
And also if what you say makes sense, then don't buy the insurance for your car and for your house because you can save money and you don't feed the ATO and the banking system.
But more educated people (the buyers) are armed with a credit card and as a second level protection, PayPal.
Yes when I use the credit card I'll pay that 1.5-2% fee which is nothing compared to a value of $1,000, it's $15-20 worth spending and saves you headaches, stress and losses, it's an insurance like I believe you have on your house and your car.

    • +3

You don't trust the merchant then you don't buy from them, that's not that hard, isn't it?

CC or PayPal eats a big part of profit.
$100 goods sold, as a business, I need to pay about $1-1.4 depends on the Cc, or $2.xx for Amex. the cost of goods sold around 60-65%. so the banks are taking 3-4% of any small businesses' net profit for a transaction.

a business could only have an average of 10-15% net profit.
Computer parts are even leaner as every thing is pretty much transparent.

for this deal, the merchant pretty much needs to pay $24 to CC or $40 PayPal.

Of course saving any cost to make deals being more competitive for consumers, and making the business running longer.

That's why you are here OZB.

  • +5

Hey @enigmapc what would be the cost for a 4080 upgrade potentially?

    • +2

      Looking into it!

    • I too would love to know this. I'm in the market.

      • Same

    • +1

Also in the market! Would love a good price on the upgrade and I'm pulling the trigger.
Any other upgrades recommended if moving to the 4080 on this build?

      • Any other upgrades recommended if moving to the 4080 on this build?

The PSU, but then it doesn't make sense that you buy a budget computer and you want the 4080 GPU too.

        • $2,339 isn't a budget computer. Are there better priced 4080 builds available?

          • +1

            @harvestloon:

Are there better priced 4080 builds available?

It depends on what is your understanding of gaming computer, what performances do you want and what is your budget.
The computer here is good for the price and can play many games and you should not make any changes.
You still need to add Windows also you need to ask who (as I don't know you) is going to install it.
But if I were to buy a 4080 system, I would pick my spare parts and assemble it as I've always done.
You could ask Enigmapc a quote for a system with the 4080 GPU or you could head to MSY, pick your parts (if you know what you do) and they assemble it, or you could even ask them for suggestions.
So again you need to explain what is you meaning of better, best value for the money?

    • +6

RTX 4080 upgrade is in the builder now. $499 upgrade cost.

      • +4

Thanks! Now for a chat with the missus.

        • +5

That's easy, just don't tell the wife

          • +7

@botchie: That could be more expensive than just a PC ;)

        • +4

Babe, I think college is a big scam. Our kids don't deserve to get scammed. Ergo…

      • @ChatGPT Thoughts on this build with the 4080 if you don't mind?

        • +1

Decent price for the total build, 4080 upgrade price is reasonable

      • We have had to update the upgrade price to $549 - We have sold out of our cards and the cost of these cards have gone up

  • I would have picked this over the 3060ti deal if it were available. It has a better cooler, SSD and power supply and a fair upgrade price for the GPU.

  • Do you guys do C&C?

    • Yes we do!

      • Where are you located?

        • +1

Our warehouse is in Dural. Just next to the Bunnings on New Line Road.

  • -1

I would definitely swap out the InWin powersupply when you receive it. No reviews on it

    • We have used InWin power supplies in many of our PCs and never had any issues.

You can upgrade to the Gigabyte 850W UD850GM in the configurator.

    • According to LTT PSU tier list, I was able to locate the P75F as a B tier Mid-Range.

      https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

Not too great and not too bad.

      • +1

Good link. The InWin is a good sweet spot.

        • The InWin is a good sweet spot

It's a decent PSU because of its very low selling price, but I must admit that the whole system is a decent one if we look at the final price.
For people looking to upgrade to a more powerful GPU I strongly advice to avoid that and keep this computer as is or choose your own parts and ask MSY to build for you.
If you want to buy a reliable and durable 750W 80+ gold certified PSU, you need to spend at least $200.
My Corsair have not failed me since I bought it (no 80+ nor GOLD) more than 10 years ago, also in my area we have frequent blackouts which burned a previous PSU.

          https://www.techpowerup.com/review/in-win-greenme-750/

          • +2

@billadm: As previously stated, this deal has configurable upgrades which allow for a different power supply as well as many other things.

We do love Corsair power supplies. Unfortunately, they are hard for us to source well.

          • +2

@billadm: You definitely don't need to spend more than $200 for a reliable 750W 80+ gold PSU at the moment.

These are all Tier A (High-end)

            $139 - MSI MPG A750GF and Corsair RM750e (2022)
            $156 - Thermaltake Toughpower GF1
            $159 - Corsair RM750e (2023)
            $160 - Corsair RM750x (2021)
$169 - Antec High Current Gamer Gold
            $171 - Cooler Master V750 V2

            • @Phade:

more than $200 for a reliable 750W 80+ gold PSU at the moment

Yes you can spend a bit less, if you want to, but for sure not $99 for a reliable one.

  • +2

why is the MATX build cost more? just googled the case and its cheaper than the original case in the deal.

    Can you clarify?

    • Maybe mATX takes more time for assemble and also is not parts friendly.

      • would absolute launch if it was +$0.00 for the case change ;/

    • I'd guess they also get volume discounts for selling a lot of the same case, less so for the less frequently sold cases

      • Unfortunately, this is the “case”.

The MATX cases are also hard to get right now.

        • Thats all good! I bought a system :)

Thanks for the deal, looking forward to it

  • nice price with good component.

  • Do you guys think you will ever do a deal on a PC more in the $1000 range or are more focused on this demographic?

Looking for something for a parent and no gaming so minimal requirements other than longevity.
Been watching techfast and bpc or happy to build myself, but you guys seems to hit a good mix of quality and price.

    • If not gaming or doing intensive tasks like video editing then ex-office desktop refurbs are the go. 8th gen Intel or better for simplicity (windows 11) and a little extra longevity.

E.g. this one yesterday (OOS now)
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790611
Or some smaller ones have popped up occasionally

      • Thanks, will keep an eye out.

    • +1

We do a few PCs in the $1000 range and even below $1000, you can have a look here:

      R5-3600, RTX 3060Ti - $899
      i5-12400F, RTX 3060Ti - $1149
      R5-7600, RTX 3060Ti - $1399

If they are not going to do any gaming on the PC, hit us up via live chat, we may have some more budget builds that are not gaming focused

      • The first deal is out of stock

Are you going to make any deals with the 4060ti? I know that performance is a bit worse that the 3060ti, but TDP is much better.and the price point is much cheaper

        • That was a admin issue - deal is still in stock - this has been fixed

With regards to the 4060 Ti, we are happy to quote with a 4060 Ti, but pricing will be higher

        • and the price point is much cheaper

          What?

    • +2

Apple Mac Mini M2 base model - can be bought for $997 or less.

      Meets all your requirements.

  • +1

Upvoting for the quality of this post. Good stuff.

  • could someone comment on downgrading to the PNY 4070 which would drop the price to $1850 and comparable (if not better than) the recent Nebula deal?

    • +3

      We have:

      • A better motherboard (With Wifi and bluetooth built in)
      • A better Cooler
      • A 750W PSU vs a 650W PSU
  • -5

such a better option than Tech Fast.. last order from them took 2 months to get out of the door.. seriously hopeless by the time i got it, 14 newer cpu's were released and it was now DDR5 😂

  • Can you add 8TB hard drives to the build?

    • We only have 14TB WD Red Pro drives ($499) - let us know if you are interested in these

  • how is the CPU bottleneck on uktrawode 1440 (3440x1440?)

Cyberpunk, Witcher, fortnight, VR (Alyx) etc

    • -5

Ever heard of google and doing your own research?

      • +2

I have but then I also read that it depends on the games and some of the bottleneck sites were challenged on here

        so I thought I'd ask to9

        • +6

Nothing wrong with asking. Don't know why people complain when people ask questions on a forum

          • +1

@Skullytor: Correct… sometimes the information given on Google can be conflicting and confusing… at least here if you're confused you can at least ask to elaborate…

I for one have needed plenty of help as at the ripe old age of 55 & just starting to learn over the past few years, many different scenario's have popped up that I have had NO IDEA about…

          • @Skullytor:

Don't know why people complain when people ask questions on a forum

            Because you hurt their Ego.

        • Yeah bottleneck "calculators" are pretty suspect, IMO

  • +1

To make this deal even better, it would be nice adding AMD GPU options. Probably a 7900XTX would cost the same as this current deal.

    • We would if we could! AMD just doesn’t sell as well so there isn’t much stock available.

      • Sad… Nvidia really has a strong fanbase

  • @enigmapc Could you please add an option for an additional 32GB (64GB total) to the configuration?

    • +1

      Done!

      • Thanks, how long do you think it will take for it to update on the website?

        • +1

          Should be live now

          • @enigmapc: Cheers, I can see it now. Do you think you can make it closer to techbuy price?

            https://www.techbuy.com.au/p/530483/MEMORY_RAMBUS/PNY/MD32GK…

            • +1

@QuiOui: The link you have sent us is for the same 32GB kit we have in the base build. But I will also note we do not price match.

              • @enigmapc: @enigmapc Yes, that's why I thought. It would be good to have 4 sticks of the same kind. All good, it was worth a shot. Thanks.
P.S. The motherboard can take 4 sticks right?

@QuiOui: The motherboard can take 4 sticks, the reason why we are offering a 64GB kit instead of 2x32GB kits is because DDR5 compatibility with 4 sticks is still not super stable, meaning we can't guarantee you can run the RAM at the full advertised speed without potential stability issues.

This should be fixed in future but right now it's an issue.

  • Surely a good OzBargainer could source the parts for this for less?

      Are you new here?

      • I have 5 times as many comments as you… I feel like it’s a fair question. Why not answer it instead of meet with sarcasm? Prob would have taken the same time.

        • -2

probably would have taken 2 seconds more than prob

  • Staticice is a good comparison site like pcpartpicker

  • I can't pull the trigger till Intel 14th gen is out..

  • I'm going to sound like an idiot but I just want to double check:

I have an ultra-widescreen but I often play windowed at lower resolutions. When people say the CPU will bottleneck, this just means that the GPU might be capable of pumping out 200+FPS but will be somewhat limited to something below this at that resolution because of the CPU?

What I'm asking is that in reality if I have a 144hz monitor the bottleneck is more of a theoretical/future issue rather than something that is going to make me regret not upgrading the CPU/It isn't like I'm going to get worse performance at 1080 than 3440x1440?

Edit. For the $500 saving am I better off just getting the 4070?

    • For the $500 saving am I better off just getting the 4070?

If you care about saving, there are second hand 3080 cards or whole system which will save you a lot of money.
But it depends on if you can built and setup a computer and choose the right and compatible parts or just buy the whole second hand system.
There isn't much different between the 4070Ti and the 4080 so the latter is the choice of more experienced game players and content creators who need the max performances.

      • It's less that I care about savings and more about my use case and if I'd be wasting money.

If I could see the purpose for it I could afford a 4090 build, it's just that 99% of my play time is indie games or strategy/simulation games, rather than AAA titles and as said I'm often gaming in a window. I get to some extent it's a 'well how much is $500 worth to you?' and the answer to that is if I could squeeze an extra year or two out of it quite a bit.

I'm still currently using a build from 2016 with a 1070 in it. The main reason I'm upgrading is because it has a dinky SSD and games like Midnight Suns are chugging on it/it's now the minimum spec or close enough for a lot of games.

        • 99% of my play time is indie games or strategy/simulation games, rather than AAA titles and as said I'm often gaming in a window

I'd say you could safely save $1k+ with this build, possibly throwing in a cpu/mobo upgrade. The 6800 isn't far off the 4070 in performance, and both are plenty for those kind of games even at high resolutions.

        • I also am running a 1070 from 2017 (with latest mobo allowing Windows 7) and I can play any game.
But 1070 alone means nothing because cards and brands are different and prices too.
The CPU brand and model also is very important including the motherboard.
I don't know your system nor I can understand if you bought it already assembled, but a dinky SSD can mean a cheap drive and or a fragmented system file.
For your game and for indie games a 1070 is more than adequate, you also mentioned the screen without telling the sizes so I assume you bought the computer already assembled.
A fresh Windows install will surely help play the games smoothly.
