[NSW, VIC, SA] 3x 300g (900g) A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Sirloin Steak $167 Delivered (+$0 SYD/MEL, C&C ADL) @ Osawa Enterprises

1530

$186/kg which is a great price for premium cut of A5 Wagyu from Kyushu - I get the Kagoshima maybe once a year (approx $270/kg) but this should be equivalent. Before the pandemic you would have paid at least $450/kg at a restaurant for A5 Sirloin, and now the cheapest I can find is about $600/kg (Sydney).

It's really hard to mess up cooking this, perfect as yakiniku on a charcoal grill, and it just melts in your mouth. Mine is absolutely salivating as I write this lol

Pairs great with soy-sesame or citrus-ish dipping sauce, or even wasabi and salt.

Description:
Miyazaki A5 (BMS 9-11)
Sirloin has a delicate but firm texture, a richness in flavour, and it’s ideally suited to grilling or barbecuing.

Free Delivery to Sydney, Melbourne, and Pickup only in Adelaide (Hyde Park 5034?).

Update Monday 5:53PM - Sydney back in stock, Melbourne back in stock.

      • Brand name is known as Meltique Beef
Injecting beef tallow (rendered/liquefied beef fat) by needle into a lesser/lower-marbling quality steak

Fake wagyu, actually sometimes called "Wagyu" in Asian grocery stores, it's misleading advertising really
It's not bad, it's an improvement on lean beef, but it's nowhere as good as actual marbled beef

    186$/kg a great price….uh what

On what planet is 186bux a great price for meat

    • +14

Same concept with everything else. Why pay $100k for a BMW when you can get a Toyota for $20k? Why pay $10k for a Rolex when you can get a Swatch for $50? Why pay $2m for a house when you can get one for $700k? Why pay $5k for a OLED tv when you can get a LCD for $500? Why pay $15k for a private school when you can go to local government school for free?

      • Well simply put..you leave the relm of a nessessity to luxury

    • +1

This would go very well with a bottle or two of Grange? (both of which I have not tasted :-(

      • dan murphy have the penfold release classes and they include taste of grange , 389, st henri, etc for $50, was $20 last year for the release tasting, so you don’t need to be wealthy to taste good wines, just if you want a whole bottle.

        • Great idea. Thanks.

  • +3

Awesome. Can't wait to cook this on my $15 mini multi cooker from Kmart once I've made my instant noodles in it

  • Couldn't buy it because they didn't deliver 15 minutes away, then entered an address nearby and was able to choose pick up.

  • +1

Saying there isnt enough stock when I checkout but theres still stock in sydney warehouse ughh

  • +2

    Sold out? Trying in Melbourne

    • shows in stock for me

  • The pick up area for SA is showing in Norwood, not Hyde Park.
    Awesome deal though!

  • No stock in syd

  • +2

Says 5 in stock but then OOS when you go to order in Melbourne at 7.36pm

  • remember it was $200 for 3kg?

    • +2

Only thing I miss about the lockdowns was the amount of top notch seafood/meat you could get for a relative pittance.

  • +1

If I got half as much enjoyment out of a $35/kg steak… I'd get that instead.

  • +6

My idea of splurging on meat is when i buy a 6 pack of 'name brand' sausages at the supermarket for like $5.

  • Never tried Wagyu before, tempted to splurge.

  • Anyone tried this sous vide style? And is it better than normal bbq?

    • +2

A 300g slice for A5 should be thin. I won't recommend sous vide, just season with salt and grill / sear each side properly and you will be good to go.

      • +1

Got mine yesterday. Two of them were thin which means good for yakiniku and the other one was about 1cm so I'd chuck that on the iron cast skillet.

Have to say I'm disappointed but there is a reason why they were on sale! Luck of the draw I guess.

Wow and double wow. In my uni days we'd get a side of beef and sometimes two for $185. The world has gone mad.

    • What kind of uni student can afford that?

      • +1

chemistry students who distill moonshine or cook meth,

  • Despite the differences between Australian Wagyu and Japanese Wagyu, both are delicious, which is why we highly recommend that you try both!

    https://wagyubeefaustralia.com.au/the-difference-between-aus…

Like how much the actual difference in price?

  • Thanks bought 5 for the freezer.

    • Keep your eye on the freezer security guards. They might knock em off.

  • Back in stock (68 left currently)

  • What about Brisbane??!! 😭

  • +3

I will stick with the Aldi $1.70 chicken slices on my toasted bread.

  • +1

Do you get an orgasm eating this steak?

    • +1

at this price you'd want to be hooked up with a 19 YO Salma Hayek

  • Don’t normally dabble in cheap off-cuts but will see how these go.

If you are in SA and looking for a place for a special occasion: http://www.mayurastation.com/dining/

We went on a Thursday night in winter a few years ago and were the only two people there so it was just us and the chef, who also happened to be a legend.

    • +1

Thanks I'm saving this for our next special occasion. Had never heard of it but looks amazing.

  • How does this compare with the stuff you eat at Kobe Wyagu? If anyone been there….they got some awesome cuts

    • I'm sure Kobe is spectacular and they both real Japanese Wagyu but
      https://holygrailsteak.com/blogs/the-art-of-steak/miyazaki-w…
"Many people think Kobe and Miyazaki Wagyu are the same thing. It’s important to remember that while they’re both brands of high-quality Wagyu, Kobe falls just short in flavor, tenderness, and overall quality. That’s why Miyazaki Wagyu has won first place in Japan’s leading Wagyu competition for 15 consecutive years."

Anyway, I'm now super keen to charcoal BBQ it once my steaks have arrived.

  • Yum

    World gone mad.

  • I would classify it as a ripoff at $40 a kilo, for $186 a kilo, I'd expect a highly trained chef to accompany it and cook it for me.

Did I stumble on OzBovine instead of OzBargain?

    • Have you ever tried A5 Wagyu?

      • -1

I wouldn't care how good it was. Would never pay an insane amount like this for steak

  • Again Perth missed out !

  • Thanks OP

Haven't cooked A5 at home before but have cooked Aust Wagyu 9+.

$180 odd per KG isn't cheap but still so much cheaper than at a restaurant.

Will Yakiniku (charcoal BBQ) 1 piece at a home to eat with Japanese rice.

Also bought Australian Wagyu LA Rib MBS2-3(Korean Style BBQ Short Ribs), to bulk up the protein. can't afford to eat all 3 in one go

Any other suggestions on other protein and side dishes?

Was going to get some OX Tongue but they sold out.

Maybe pork belly and chicken thigh fillets.

    • -1

If protein is all your after have a protein shake with a couple of egg whites in it. A lot cheaper

  • Would cooking this in air fryer ruin it

  • -2

I'd rather get the 75/kg Wagyu sirloin from Woolies these days if I am lucky enough to get my hands on some.

  • +1

Suspiciously cheap. M9 Australian (scotch or sirloin) wagyu steaks usually go for $120-$160/kg.
This is A5 Japanese wagyu from a premier farm. $180/kg is very reasonable.
Im going to pick up some on friday. Will post review.

  • -2

I think it's funny that people even think it's ok to pay this for a kg of fat with a little bit of meat in it. It certainly shows the divide we live in. I wouldn't care how nice it was. Nothing could ever convince me to spend that even if I could burn $160 a kg.

    • +5

Back in my uni days I would've said the same.

As I've got older I've realised life is basically a series of experiences/memories. Each experience missed is gone. For my family some experiences we enjoy are travel, food/drink, time spent with friends/family and the odd luxury item to mark special occasions thrown in.

After bills, savings and investments, we allocate a certain amount of $ for charitable causes and then spend the rest on experiences for our family and friends.

There are many experiences in life that others can afford, which I can't but I certainly don't pass judgement or begrudge those partaking in those who can afford them. If they were experiences that were important to me I'd work to achieve those. If not, I'm happy enjoying the experiences I can afford while having plenty of time to spend enjoying life.

It's interesting seeing those who either can't afford or appreciate this deal coming in here to pass judgement on those who can rather than just scrolling past to a deal that is for them. Perhaps this attitude is why they're in the situation they're in.

Just got my steaks, looks better than the picture on the website, came with a cert as well. Can't wait to try it.

    • Looks fantastic.

Can’t wait for my order to arrive.

    • How thick are they?

      • +1

Around 1cm, very thin. Only needs 20-30s per side

        • It was perfect with that cook time?

          • +2

@thestig: For me it was, I brought it to room temp first then got pan ripping hot. 10s on each side, took it off to rest a few minutes then back on 10s each side, took it off for a few minutes then back on again for last 10s each side. Probably could do it in 1 go but I wanted a good crust so found that this was better. And you can taste a small bit each time to see if it is to your liking.
Also trim off the big chunks of fat and use it to cook something else, just the marbling in the meat is sufficient

            • @ozlurker: You eat it as a steak or Japanese style with rice?

    • You got lucky mate, mine look nothing like that (far more fat round the outside) and my cow most certainly didn't complete a Cert IV :(

  • What happen if no one at home when the order arrived?

    • +1

Mine just arrived. Order (in carton) placed at front door, they called + texted me with a photo of where it was. Inside was a foil insulated bag, beef, and a rather small ice pack.

Probably best not to leave it out there for more than an hour, weather permitting. Beef was still more than 50% frozen though.

  • +1

For anyone who's purchased this in Adelaide, the pickup spot they list on the email is actually wrong.

    Wrong Address:
Kazumi Ramen Norwood - 150 The Parade, Norwood SA 5067

    Correct Address:
Samurai Teppanyaki House - 116 King William Rd, Hyde Park SA 5034

Hope this helps someone. You park out the back of Samurai Teppanyaki House and ring the back doorbell.

    • Cheers for the heads up! I am picking mine up next week. Did you get an email notifying you that it was ready to pick-up?

  • Anyone still waiting on their order? Ordered on the 12th but still no updates

  • Do we store this in the freezer or fridge?

    • I got mine still mostly frozen so I put one in the fridge to eat and the others in the freezer.
