Check HN. They have a RTX4050 for $1098.

      Worse CPU however.

      • I dont believe the 12450h is going to bottle neck the gpu anyway, that combo is much more likely to be better balanced than a 12500h and 3050. Seeing as you cannot swap out either component you want them to be as balanced as possible imho, minimal bottle neck should be the primary motive.

4050 seems to be a nice upgrade over the 3050

    • good for Baldurs Gate 3?

      • yeah, you wanted the gpu power esp better vram. bg3 is not gpu intensive but 4gb only nets you the bare minimum specs needed

  • Have Acer Finally changed the chassis? looks like the screen is sitting higher compared to earlier nitro 5's

    • +1

      Can confirm definitely updated chassis.

      • Personally didnt have an issue with it
But at the same time, i did see a few failed hinge mounts on the lcd back cover

As I've mentioned - a lot - this is a 68% sRGB panel with slow response times. Unless you want to pair it with an external monitor, do not buy this laptop as a high refresh rate gaming device. There should be better 60Hz LCD panels out there, but I'm guessing they aren't as cheap for manufacturers to buy in bulk.

It's frustrating that such a junk panel is being put into entry level laptops in 2023.

    • What is the expected performance of this LCD? 120hz?

      • +2

It's refreshing at 144Hz, but the average response times are 16 ms in what measurements have been done. If those response times hold at all refresh rates (not usually the case), then its preferred operation is 60Hz.

Ideal response times are actually half the of the refresh cycle, e.g. 144Hz has a refresh cycle of 6.94ms, so 3.47ms ideal response times.

Shows you how far we still have to go, and why LCD is showing us it probably won't get any further than 360Hz with good performance.

        • Thanks for that. I didn't know about the deets.

Practically though, would anyone notice if it's 16ms lag in a game input?

          • +2

@Naigrabzo: I can't speak for this particular laptop in the deal, but I previously bought a 'cheap' laptop back in 2019 with a '120hz screen' because the rest of the specs on paper looked good for the price.

The screen had such a poor response time (27ms+) and terrible ghosting that despite games running at an ok framerate, your actions all felt super delayed on screen making it pretty horrible to use as a portable device.

That was my lesson learned to never cheap out on the screen in future.

          • +2

@Naigrabzo: You're conflating response times, input delay, perceived motion blur, motion tracking, and human reaction reaction time into one big pot.

Refresh rate increases and response time improvements aren't going to make your reaction times remarkably faster, but it's going to improve your anticipation, and in combination with low input delay it will deliver visual responsiveness closer to what you would get if you were performing a given action in reality.

The benefit of the smoothness is obvious, but the input delay improving is an improvement to the rhythm of things, and something you can consciously spot down to about 13ms. Beyond that, you still benefit, it's just not something you can identify in real time.

  • This is a great price for a all around work and play laptop….

    Ouch

  • Great deal. Also perfect for those who prefer not to shop at the usual douchey retailer HN

  • +1

wouldnt touch another Acer laptop if they gave it to me for free.
Cheap feel, noisy AF fans and pathetic battery life.
Look for a better alternative…asus etc

    • +6

I’d definitely take a free laptop.

  • Back in stock I think
