Peanut butter is the glue that holds my life together.

    • +1

      Amen

Is pics better/tastier than mayvers? Haven't tried pics but i like mayvers

    • +9

Yes I know it's just peanuts but I have found pics tastier. Mayvers is still good. Worth a try to see the difference

    • +1

Have tried both and Pics is definitely tastier

    • +6

      Mayvers is superior

    • For regular smooth and crunchy my gong goes to Pics - but - my fave PB is the Mayvers Extra Crunchy, which is a whole meal on toast!

      • Have you tried bega crunchiest?

        • No - I'll keep my eye out for it

        • We’re not begars, sorry.

    • +4

Both are good but I prefer Mayvers for their Dark Roasted peanut butter

    • No, Pic's is terrible in comparison. Stick to Mayver's.

    • Mayvers smunchy protein peanut butter is the best IMO. I've tried the entire line and Pics as well. I go through a jar each week alone nom nom.

  • +1

What? Only 50% Australian peanuts in this current batch?
    That's a real shame :(

Any one know where the other 50% come from?

    (Mayvers is from NZ peanuts)

      • +16

rather than just make guesses, you could be more helpful. According to Pics website, and therefore answering Diddy50's question…

Our tasty jars are filled with peanuts from Australia and Brazil.

We appreciate that you may want to know exactly where the peanuts in your jar came from rather than a generic origin statement - so we got creative.

On the back of the jar, you’ll see a QR code - scan that with your smartphone camera, and it’ll take you to our Batchinator!

Enter in your six-digit batch number, and you’ll find out where your peanuts were grown. You can also check out our Batchinator here and enter your six-digit batch number

FYI. They also say why they dont do organic PB, since you negged the post mentioning how important to you that is, without having ever shared any deals that are for organic PB. This being a site for deals. (This is not to say their reasoning is correct)

          Freedom of speech?

    • +2

Not sure about current production - but this is on their website, seems to be from 2020: https://mayvers.com.au/update-in-peanut-origins/
      and also from their faqs:
Due to the volume of peanuts we need to keep supply of our Mayver’s range in the market (we sell a large amount of peanut butter each year), currently we are unable to source enough Australian peanuts to make up 100% of Australian peanuts for our total range. As Australia unfortunately can’t produce enough peanuts we require for our Mayver’s spreads – even if we took the total amount of Australian peanuts grown each year. However, our regular Mayver's Crunchy and Smooth Peanut Butter are 100% Australian.

You dont need to be patriotic over some bloody peanuts.

There are more important matters that you can engage your patriotism to.

        How shameful

  • I'm just looking at my jar of mayvers smooth peanut butter now & it's say made from @least 25% Australian ingredients.hummm.

    • @least 25% Australian ingredients.

      So could be 100% then??

  • -2

    Pic's or it didn't happen………….

  • +4

Bega 100% australian is on spesh in woolies right now for $3.30 for 325g, much better IMO
    Smooth, crunchy or crunchiest

    • What makes one PB better or worse over the others? Is it the source of peanuts, fillers, addons or flavours?

      • +5

Nice rich flavour, good texture (more oily than kraft's promise of "never oily mever dry", if that worries you), but mostly the australian origin of the nuts, we have high standards in pranut production (ive worked alongside a peanut researcher), supporting local jobs and agriculture here - less transport wastage.

Also the glass jars are really nice - the stickers come off easily so theyre great as reusables with a strong lid.

99c per 100g bit too expensive

    bring on the poor jokes

    • You might want to consider Coles Peanut Butter 375g - $1.80 ($0.48 per 100g) Surprisingly this has 91% peanut butter. Bega has less at 85%. Obviously it's not made in Aus for that price, it's made in India.

      • +1

ya I bought exactly that yesterday

surprised how much cheaper it was but haven't tried it yet

        • I bought one yesterday as well because I was all out & desperate. It tastes fine but I usually buy Bega when on special, so I'm looking forward to trying Pic's.

I don't think I can go back to Bega now I know it has less peanuts than Coles home brand.

          • @WatchNerd: i used to buy $3.37 for 780g Bega on Amazon but those days are no more

      • +2

Bega simply nuts is 100% peanuts and fully australian - the glass jars. They are $1.02/100g atm. The bega plastic are not aussie.

Ok i've recommended it enough now ha

  • Pics peanut is too dry nowdays, specially crunchy one. They were great and only dry at the bottom with 100% aus peanuts. I would suggest folks to first try one bottle and then buy in bulk otherwise it will be waste of money.

    • +3

i found storing the unopened bottles upside down until it was time to open them to actually help with the dry bit at the bottom. probably not guaranteed but you could give it a try.

  • I pick Pic's to go in the bin. Mayver's for the win!

  • curious what people thought about the Aldi's "Oh So Natural Wholefoods" peanut butter in comparison with Pic's or Mayvers?

  • Very sad they stopped using 100% Australian nuts!
Used to be much better quality with the Aussie nuts!
Previously they dropped to 0% Australian nuts I suspect sales dropped so they added 50% to try save face. I think it's dodgy when they could easily do batches with 100%.

  • +1

Pic's my preferred PB. Until recently 100% Kingaroy peanuts, now mixed with Brazilian peanuts. Flavour and quality still above the rest. Hard to compete against cheap Argentinian peanuts which most manufacturers use.

    https://www.picspeanutbutter.com/pics-peanut-butter-products…

I blend Pic's crunchy with Bega's Simply Nuts Crunchiest. Yes, I am a nut case…
