  • For peoples wondering why offline mode doesn't work, you need to turn off mobile data, or disable auto switching to mobile data. Also widget doesn't work but in-app will be working.

    • Just get a second hand speaker and put it in the closet.

  • Can this be added to the Kasa app?

    • Nope, fo me I have to use google automation to turn on/off the light when operating the door

    • No only Mojo Dojo

      • What!? This won’t work on kens kasa mojo dojo home?

  • +1

Rock solid, have in both homeassiatant and HomeKit.

    • Does that mean you can use Siri and home assistant at same time? I was always turned off before because coming in I would use Siri, then from inside the house alexa or home assistant and I always thought it was one or the other.

      • +1

I installed for some time. I set it up for Siri, Google and Alexa. Can use any of them to operate.

  • Great find! Was going to post this but you were too quick! Thanks. May have to come back to this thread for advice on install and configuration.

  • +1

If I don't need Apple Homekit would the cheaper ($45.99) be ok. Will be used for a sliding motorised gate.

Any other differences between the two. Sorry, can't upload the link.

    • +3

Link for the non-homekit version: https://amzn.asia/d/7vGPyuc

Don't know if there are any other differences but I've opted for this one.

      • Thanks mate. Yeah for just a few dollars more I'll just go with this one as well. Kids have iPhones and will start driving soon.

  • Is this easy to install ?any installation instruction video

    • +2

      Depends on your door motor
Most have a specific section for a hard wire kit, which this controller wires into. If your motor is similar to others it's as simple as unscrewing two screws, sliding the correct two wires in and tightening the screws. You'll then need to supply the controller with usb power and connect it to the app.

      • I have a Merlin MR800a roller door. Does anyone know if this works?

        Edit: website says it is.

Just get something like this for less than $20

          https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BCP282F9

          • +4

@jimbler: Smart garage door open does more than open and close the door from your phone. The meross has overtime closing, schedule closing, open/closing from anywhere (not just 50m like the remote), notifications each time it opens/closes, etc etc. Great device and well worth the money. Never had an issue with my 2. Easy installs and they just work. Recommended

      • @CoreNex thx,I know there are two controller wires need to connect to the garage door motor, one is blue, one is brown. In my case, do you know which pin I should use?

    • +1

The only bit I found fidgety was connecting the sensor to the garage door. The wiring part was literally a 60 second job

      • +1

I used blutack, somehow still holding fine.

  • +2

I’m guessing if you run home assistant, the non HomeKit would be fine as you could just use the HomeKit bridge integration to as it to HomeKit?

    • +1

Yes. You can add the Meross integration through HACS then use the bridge integration.

  • +1

Just impulse bought, how have you guys connected the 5V power? USB to USB long af cable to a wall socket?

    • You are connecting these to an electric roller door mainboard. Chances are whatever outlet the roller door is plugged into will be the same that this device will be plugged into. At least that's how both of my devices are set up…

    • Got a wifi socket with USB ports on the side to go between the garage door opener power.

  • Still no affordable solutions for rolling code swing gate/garage door automation hey?

    • this is basically a relay, so provided your swing gate motor has provision for a hard wire button this will work

  • +1

The term is: Open Says Me

  • Does it work with Google home app on Samsung ?

  • -1

I have this garage door opener. It works well but their 2nd Factor Authentication is a joke. Even with the 2FA enabled you can just use your login and password to link into your Samsung account and use the SmartThings app to open the door. TLDR: it is not safe.

    • -2

Logging in to SmartThings sounds a lot like a second factor…

      • I log in into my Samsung account and thank link your Meross account. Is that 2FA? I use different email address for both.

  • swing gates?

    • +3

Works with any motor that has a facility (terminals) to wire in a switch. Then you just wire in this device to those terminals.

    • I have FaaC swing and controller for the gate. Works perfectly. The only thing I haven't been able to do, figure out where to put the sensors because they are designed for internal not external.

      • Is that the sensor that says it's open or closed? It can't be out in the weather? That's annoying because I would like to get this for my gate, already have one for the garage.

I guess I can just not worry about using the sensor

  • I bought this before but it's 2.4g and my wifi is 5g.
I haven't worked out how to connect

    • +2

Login to your router (instructions are on the sticker underneath the router) and check the wifi settings for something called "Smart Connect". If you can, disable that. Then your wifi will broadcast a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network separately.

  • I bought 2, 1 was pure garbage and drops WiFi after a couple of hours, sent back to Amazon. The other is working well but drops WiFi every now and then. For $15 I bought a wofea off aliexpress, does the same but can be installed as a switch so you don't need a password.

    • I changed to a Deco M5 mesh WiFi and placed one node in the garage and it has stopped the dropouts on my Wofea units.

    • I've found it's important to have a strong wifi signal, I had to put an eero unit in the garage, but with a strong signal it's been rock solid

    • Its most likely your router / wifi issue and not the module.

  • +1

Ok so for those who are new to Apple HomeKit don’t make the same mistake I did.

You need a HomePod or Apple TV to make this work. Without one this thing will not work within the Apple ecosystem

    • +1

I wonder why it isn't working for you. I got it working in my Apple Home without an AppleTV or HomePod.

      • +1

It’s only working when you’re at home on your wifi. It won’t work away from home as per the above posters message without the HomePod thingy

      • +1

Or you can setup an old ipad/iphone as the HomeKit hub, which I initially did.

        • How is this done? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

  • +1

Yeah great but probably don't compromise the security of your home for a dumb joke
(don't use a common phrase to automatically and remotely open a large door to your home)

  • +3

This works great with Home Assistant and Smartthings.

    Some ideas ive set up;
    - Samsung Smarttag to open/close Garage
    - NFC Tag right outside for Phone to open/close garage

    • What kind of NFC tag did you use outside the garage? Sounds pretty cool

    • Please provide some more details.

I already have the automation in home and garage is auotmated as well using meross but not heard of this from samsung.

      Thanks

      • Pretty straightforward;
if u have a smarttag it has a built in button that lets u control whatever u have setup in smartthings

  • Would it work with sliding gates

    • Works with any motor that has a facility (terminals) to wire in a switch. Then you just wire in this device to those terminals.

  • How's compare to merlin

  • This would a cheaper option, use eWeLink apps to open/close garage, it compatibles with alexa & google. Its been installed and running for 2 years without issue.

    • +1

Not compatible with Apple HomeKit. So no not an entirely cheaper/better option if you want Apple HomeKit compatible devices..

  • +1

For what it's worth I bought and installed this and it's really good @ $47.50 it comes with the unit, a double adapter and the sensor as well as fittings galore

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/orion-grid-connect-smart-garage-…

I added it to home assistant via tuya local

    • Excellent find!

  • Any reason to get the Meross over this one, for use via Home Assistant?

    https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/garage-door-opener-for-esphom…

  • Friendly reminder that any garage door that is retrofit with remote operating needs a kill switch to stop it shutting on someone.

  • Bought it last time to use with Bunning's Chamberlain unit. It worked so well with HomeKit and Siri, I bought another even when it wasn't on sale.

  • I have a Merlin MR650EVO. The compatibility PDF has it listed, and doesn't have the orange text saying "NEEDS ACCESSORY"

However, it has the yellow learning light, which the pictures on the page say require an accessory.

Which is it? I would hope/think that the actual compatibility list would be more reliable than 'yellow button bad'

    • Looked at the pdf for the installation. See pt 23 which had a wired wall switch. That's what you need to connect to the Meross

Just wanted to pop back and say cheers. Bought it, installed it tonight, got it all working

  • +1

Shelly and reed switch cheaper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEZUxXNiERQ

  • How do I get USB power in my garage shed for this unit?

    • The same way you’ve got the motor plugged in… through a power socket.

      • My motor is plugged into a normal 240V power point. So I will need to change my PowerPoint to one that had a USB charger

        • Huh? Just get a double adaptor and replug back in your garage motor and in the second socket plug in a phone charger. Simple

        • +1

Or get a single socket with USB ports on the side.

          • @Lukian: True. I just suggested my way thinking many people have double adaptors and/or old phone chargers laying around.

  • ordered!

  • Easy fit for B&D PowerDrive models?

  • For sectional doors this is a better alternative as (1) you don't need a separate USB plug/charger, and (2) you don't have to install a magnetic sensor. The sensor is wireless, and you just stick it onto your door using double sided tape (this won't work for roller doors).

You can buy it for ~$45-50 when on special:

    https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-smarterhome-wireless-gara…

  • had mine for a couple of years now, pretty good unit. works well with both apple and android devices.

  • I have this one and has been working great since install 12 months ago and is $30 cheaper

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334646036812?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

  • Can this work on a roller door? I guess for the sensor part to detect open/closed status, it'd have to be stuck on the last bit of the door that when open doesn't bend, ie there's about 10-20cm of door that stays in the track but doesn't roll at the top. Because I can't work out how you'd attach the sensor to the bit that rolled, if that makes sense?

    • im trying to figure this out myself. Let me know if you had any joy

  • Have product, and a centurion garage door system. Can confirm it worked and setup was pretty easy, but I did remove the garage door opener for the roof as I needed access to the circuit to install the device.

Great price, highly recommend. I use with an apple smart home setup.

  • I purchased this almost a year ago now. Still haven't installed it…can't find a proper way to mount the sensor on the door.

    • Is yours a roller door? I'm wondering if it'll work on a roller door in terms of the sensor.

  • +1

If you don't have Apple devices the non apple version is only$45. Works exactly the same

  • Does anyone know if you can still use your existing remotes to operate the garage if the meross starts acting up?

    • +1

Both wired and wireless remotes will still work. If you have a wired switch you just wire this one into the same connectors

    • +1

100%… This is just another opener. It is mimicking a wired switch. Currently have 2 remote fobs and use these when heading out and use the Meross when coming home so the door is almost up by time I'm in the driveway

  • +1

Will it work with https://www.home-assistant.io/ ?

Looking at doing some smart lights at the same time.

  • Well I have been using a much cheaper product called Woofea from Ali express, it's been pretty good for the last three years. It costs less than $15 and provides extra features. It notifies you when your garage door is opened and closed.
