    Oh how I wish apple cases were made how they used to be, they look great but expect blemishes and chips within a few months. I bought one when the 14 released it didn’t last more than 12 months before it was so bad I had to change it out of embarrassment.

        I know the differences between good blemishes and bad, trust me these ones made the case look worse otherwise I wouldn’t be noting them.

        A couple chips were due to dropping - and I get it, that would happen with any case. What concerns me are the chips that developed just from bits peeling away.

        I get what you’re saying overall but these were definitely quality flaws.

            @AustriaBargain: Same. Mine looks identical. Back still looks pristine after a year. It’s hard wearing and haven’t experienced the peeling or chips or scratches that others have.

        Most, if not all, Apple cases from the iPhone 12 onwards don’t patina naturally. The leather is treated. Some people have luck achieving a reasonable result using sandpaper to take a layer off the case, but as many people stuff their case up. If you want a patina look at brands like Andar or Bullstrap which aren’t cheap, but neither is the Apple leather case.

        I can only assume Apple did this because as can be seen in this post even, some people want their leather case to remain like new and don’t want it to patina. Personally I think it’s disappointing, especially on some of the tan colours and the like that used to age beautifully.

        My previous iPhone 12 leather case mechanically held up just fine for the two years I used it and didn’t fall apart so I found it fine in that regard, but it never got a nice patina.

          Patina stopped at the 6s, from memory, when they moved to the metal buttons on the 7 and later. Disappointing as the old cases, for iPhone and iPad, were beautiful.

      For what it’s worth, I’ve got the dark blue “ink” one and still looks as good as new nearly a year later - pretty sure I paid less that $59 for it too

      Now they are trash.

      They dont even make the leather ones for non-pro iPhone last time I looked.

      Mine lasted 2-3 months before the edges lost their colour and the case started to look worn and ugly. Wouldn’t recommend.

      Returned my slightly cracked transparent iPhone 14 case to the Apple Store (Southland, VIC) over the weekend, as it's only 10 months old. However, they didn't provide a replacement. The Genius Bar member showed us a complex document on his iPad mini, indicating that if there's wear near the crack, the warranty isn't valid. Talking to another team member, I expressed my disappointment given the $80 cost, and he indirectly mentioned that people's expectations have changed, and Apple can't maintain their previous standards.

      In my opinion, if Apple can't maintain the level of service I'm used to, I won't continue paying their inflated prices.

      ohhh.. i thought it's just me. Recently found my old iPhone 6 with original leather phone case, absolutely beautiful and aged nicely without much sign of wear.

      my current iphone 13 pro max is barely 2 years old and yet the case is showing signs of discoloration (where the index finger touches just below the camera). this one time i accidentally put my key inside the pocket and it literally shaved off a huge layer…

        Nah, I like the dirty black marks. It's what leather is meant to do. And it is a real sheet of leather thick enough to not flake off like cheap "genuine leather" products do. Still very thin, but thick enough to not fall apart.

      Same, I did get Apple to replace mine as it was under warranty but didn't realise this was a thing, so my second case is now showing black.

          Ok so their pricing is all over the place. Essentially if you want to get a promo case you’ve got to have the right model and some god awful colour that they couldn’t sell. Good luck if you’re into terracotta or a tween who loves a pink polkadot case.
