    Chinese ROM.

    • +25

Yep that's what you want. There's no official global variants and any store that claims to have a global ROM will flash one from another tablet. That results in an unlocked bootloader (hello malware), no Widevine L1 DRM, no OTA updates and a slow buggy experience due to the ROM not being optimised for the hardware.

      • +5

Yep, I have this version, gets the ota updates.
Paid just under $600 2 months ago.

Edit: sorry, I have the 2022 pad pro, didn't realize there was a 2023 pad pro.

      • +3

        Yep that's what you want

        Who said that?
I bought the Pad Pro 2021 and I regret it.
English language in your dreams, 80% of pre installed APPs (you may not uninstall) are in Chinese language including the name of the application and everything else, you can't really use them unless you can read Chinese!
The settings menu is a mix of English and Chinese.
Widevine L1? Can you really see any difference on a 11" screen?

        • +14

This isn't the Pad Pro 2021. You can easily uninstall apps via adb. 480p vs 2K Netflix on a 12.7" display would be a big difference.

        • +8

I can remove all the apps in the Chinese ROM on the 2022 pad pro. The settings are all in English, only the default apps like the Lenovo app store and updater are in Chinese or mix.
I use the Google store for apps.

          • @reactor-au: How does the Google part work? Or would the Google part work on the Chinese ROM? Logging into google account with no issue? No restrictions?

            • @edwinzcx: You download the Google store from the Lenovo app center. Just enable Google services in the settings first.
I'd say the only thing that doesn't seem to work 100% is app notifications because Lenovo is very heavy handed on the app killing and power saving.

              • @reactor-au: That sounds like the whole google framework (whatever it’s called) is working ok on the Chinese rom, right? You know how Chinese Android devices wouldn’t be able to access google services at all. That’s my worry.

            • @edwinzcx: No issues for me. You can download the Google Play store from the Lenovo store app.

  • +8

Am I crazy for not trusting a Chinese ROM? These are great value, but it just doesn't sit right with me to have a Chinese ROM tablet. I must just be paranoid.

    • +2

Sure if you're into an unlocked bootloader (hello malware), no Widevine L1 DRM, no OTA updates and a slow buggy experience due to the ROM not being optimised for the hardware.

      A neg for agreeing :)

      • +11

To be fair, you're not being very Clear here. Even your other comment saying the same statement is not clear whether or not the Chinese ROM and/or Global ROM results in these issues. It's only inferred that there is no other simple solution other than running the stock chinese rom, which is probably fine but may not sit well with some people.

        • +13

What part isn't clear? You get none of those issues with the genuine ROM and all those issues with a fake ROM. I've stated that the fake ROM gives you the opposite of what my deal says.

Oh and no banking apps with the fake ROM either.

If you have issues with it being Chinese then you shouldn't be buying from AliExpress where your payment details and personal information is going through China, to buy a Chinese device, shipping from China.

          • +2

@Clear: The detail is very informative and helpful, just a little confusing. People unfamiliar with the product may not understand which is the 'chinese', 'genuine', 'fake' or 'global' ROM. People may be thinking "is the 'chinese rom' also a non-genuine or fake rom?". I had to read the statement from the other comment twice to work out what was being said.

            More clear as

Yep that's what you want, the stock chinese ROM is what users should use for this device as there's no official global variants. Any store that claims to have a global ROM will flash one from another tablet that results in an unlocked bootloader (hello malware), no Widevine L1 DRM, no OTA updates and a slow buggy experience due to the ROM not being optimised for the hardware.

Good deal, I'd probably buy it if I was looking for a tablet within this range.

            • +2

              @DONMAI: Thanks for the clarification.

          • +2

            @Clear:

If you have issues with it being Chinese then you shouldn't be buying from AliExpress where your payment details and personal information is going through China, to buy a Chinese device, shipping from China.

Using AliExpress is totally different to using a potentially compromised device. One is like lending your credit card to somebody you just met, the other is letting somebody roam through your house unsupervised.

There are a lot of great deals on AliExpress but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that these companies can be held accountable beyond (maybe) the sale of the item.

            • +3

@TheThoughtFraud: DONMAI clarified my point more clearly. If you care about security you would get the original CN ROM and not an unofficial ROM.

    • +21

You should be more worried about US ROM.

  • +6

Got one recently, works well. Super snappy, good multitasking, great screen & speakers.

In low brightness there's a weird Grey banding - I just bump up brightness until it's not noticeable.

Had to replace most of the default apps to get everything showing in English, including the launcher etc. Some English language symbols input a space for some reason, which irrationally angers me - haven't found a way of fixing it.

Overall I'm happy for the price.

    • +2

Also own one and have that banding issue, same on my LG V30's OLED too. And I noticed that language symbol problem with captions on YouTube, hopefully an update can fix it, though unlikely.

What's your battery life like? I've found mine to be just okay, was hoping that it'd be on par with my ancient iPad 4th gen which easily managed 6-7hrsSOT, but at 30% brightness I'm only managing close to 5hrs.

      • +4

iPad 4th gen was an anomaly in that it had a massive battery, you could easily get multiple days of use out of them. Subsequent iPads, even the iPad pros have lower battery capacities, can only manage one day of use.

    • +1

I have the grey banding with the 2022 model. It seems to only show up at 120Hz refresh and not 60Hz.

  • +2

Not much detail on the screen, other than "LCD".

Previous linked deal was an OLED for the same price, with a CPU that was apparently on par with this one….

  • +2

Thoughts on which one to get?

    Option 1 (this post):
    - Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2023 with SD870 and 8/128, 12.7" 2.9K LCD @ 144hz (400 nits)
    - US $277.68

Option 2 (linked in OP's description):
    - Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 with MT1300T and 6/128, 11.2" 2.5K OLED @ 120hz (600nits)
    - US $257.88

Not to dissimilar in price - worth paying extra $20 USD for bigger screen and newer software (Android 13) but losing OLED screen and having lower brightness?

    • +5

The old deal has the dodgy unofficial ROM as the original version is sold out sadly. Someone who likes to shit on my deals after a recent argument will tell you an unlocked bootloader, 480p Netflix on an 11.2" 2.5K and slow buggy software is better.

If you can get a genuine original ROM it's certainly worth getting.

      • +4

The unofficial global ROM doesn't get updates OTA, and doesn't have widevine L1 so no banking apps etc

      • +1

You linked to the same model from a different seller here which looks like it's the CN version, and still has some limited (5) stock left at the time of posting. Is that the original version you're referring to?

        Thanks for your insights.

        • +2

Yep that's the original CN version.

    • Hey @Code Blue, did you decide and order?

I'm in the same boat as you are, just narrowing it down to which one.

  • no 5 gee

  • +1

whats a good budget kids tablet ?

  • +2

A shame this isn't smaller, don't really need the huge screen.

  • Hi Clear, is there Australian market equivalent of this device that I could potentially look into? Closest is this on JB Hi-Fi, which looks a bit sad in comparison: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-tab-p11-11-5-2k-12…

    • +1

There's not anything equivalent in AU sadly

    • +1

Unfortunately that's the closest you'll get here.

    • +1

You'd have to look at the Samsung tablets to get anywhere near the specs, but they're substantially more expensive.

  • +7

Great price and device. Still rocking the 2021 pad pro
Perfect tablet for media, game consumption, also an emulation beast and productivity device.
I got the Lenovo keyboard cover and kickstand with it and it’s like using a chromebook once you enable desktop mode. Highly recommend for price to performance

    • +1

Is that one an OLED screen?

      • +1

Yes 2021 Pro model was an OLED.

    • Does it have a pen/stylus?

  • +2

mine showing 420A$, can't see 15$ applied, any solution?

  • +1

Could anyone that has one already please provide some suggestions on a case?

    • +2
      • +1

Thanks for that, does look good! Odd my search didn’t uncover that. I’ll keep looking too. Don’t really need a keyboard cover at the moment.

Wonder if P12 accessories would be suitable?

        • +1

Ali search is a giant pile of 💩 - don't expect the search to ever uncover the thing you actually want !

  • +3

Would it be wise to choose the option with pen or to buy it separately?

  • +3

I bought the pad pro 21. Like another poster, regret it.
Android updates are non existent and general tablet experience is rubbish.

Tbh, I love Android phones, but not tablets.

Maybe that's why I loved my fold 4!

    • +4

Each to its own. I own Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 and absolutely love it. It has a premium look to it, OLED screen looks really cool. You just need to get rid of everything Chinese on it (just remove whatever you can) and just keep Google stuff on it…. yes it does need a bit of tweaking but once it's all setup, it's an amazing tablet.

      • +2

Ignorance is a bliss I guess. Try ipad pro.

Also love android phones and played with ROMs for years (started in Cyanogenmod era), but for tablet, its Ipad or nothing for me after trying android tablets.

Hardware, its a freaking laptop* cpu! Apps are optimized by devs. Speaker, pen etc are better. Imessage and other exclusive apps. High resale value.
Wish its OLED but mini led is no slouch esp for its size.

        • +1

          I begrudgingly agree.

I bought a second hand iPad pro which is still getting updates etc.
I hate iOS, but it's simply a better long term spend than a Lenovo tablet.

And unlike almost anyone, I updated my pad pro 21 to zui14 and retained wvl1 etc. I know completely what I am doing so don't need any lecturing from newbies on how to drive Android. If you go to xda, I outline how I did it when no one else did.

          https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/install-stock-rom-xiaoxin…

But if people want a cheap tablet with good specs and don't care about the long term support and some quirks to the way Lenovo manipulate Android, go nuts. Just don't complain when there aren't any updates to newer versions of Android.

          • +1

@JPMelb: My device also had a screen problem. I had to return it to China. That cost me about $200. That wasn't fun. I almost decided not to throw good money after bad

  • +1

I’ve used iPad all my life, but I’m keen on trying android but is it hard to switch? Reading all the language used here is making me think it’s too hard, what’s all this tech talk :s am I gonna be stuck with a pad in Chinese and spending days learning how to use it…

    • +3

If you want to compare to Apple, get a Samsung Tablet

      • +1

As in the learning curve to switch to android is easier if I go Samsung over this pad? Or the specs of Samsung are similar?

        • +2

Its not that hard to use an Android device really. And if you are scared to switch, means you are unlikely to tinker with advanced options/apps/roms/root etc anyway. So you will probably use it as an apple user (go with "just works").

          Tho, why switch??

          • +1

@JsonDough: Yea there’s no way I’d tinker with stuff. That’s why when I read all the jargon from clear I’m unsure if I should switch.

iPad has been good, but I am disappointed how long they last for me. My 2020 iPad has been slow for a year, having 5 tabs and they keep on refreshing constantly. I want something with more grunt I suppose.

            • +2

@cloudy: If you have been an iPad person for so long I wouldn't suggest going Android tablet at all unless you are but technologically advanced and can deal with slight little quirks that come with using Android.

I am personally an Android person because Android gives you that flexibility with things e.g. installing apps that aren't on Google Play store etc etc, I just love when there is a bit of tinkering involved. I would never buy an iOS device.

I know friends who have used iPad for years and switched to Android because the latest iPad was expensive, but they hate it. It opens up that endless Apple vs Android discussion.

  • +1

it says , "11 sold" so far,,, so seems not popular ??

  • +1

If my current Xiaomi tablet died, this would probably be it's replacement. Lots of features at a sub $500 price.

  • +1

No more $15 code available ? Showing 420 for me as well.

    • +1

Shows for me. Are you in the app, mobile site or desktop site?

      • +1

I've just tried it in Firefox and also in the mobile app but both are not showing the extra $15 off at checkout. Has that train left?

        • App and desktop site should show the discount at checkout.

      • +1

        Mobile app

  • +1

I have a lenovo Thunderbolt 4 Dock. Would this work with that?

    • Some googling says that both the 2022 and 2023 versions have usb c video out. Not sure how that will play with the thunderbolt 4 Dock but it's promising news

  • +3

Not seeing "Further US$15 discount applied automatically." What should be the final price including all discounts and gst tax?

  • +1

This one is selling for AUD$366 in china. Definitely a bargain.
Just purchased one from China for the 256GB variant with original keyboard and case costing around AUD $582 FOR MY dad to replace his iPad air.

    • +2

How can we get it for $366 from China?

      • +1

You can't ATM. You will need a Chinese friend or bring it in yourself.

    • +1

Curious on the case and keyboard, as can't seem to find anything for this specific model. Happen to have a link by chance?

      • +3

Doesn't seem to be able to buy from AliExpress yet. Maybe @Clear can contact store rep to add a bundle option or buy separate.
I travelled China recently and brought it in.

    • +1

Do you have to pay tax when bring it to AU?

Also Lenovo official website doesn't accept AUS credit card or Paypal.

      • +1

It is a gift from my lovely Chinese host friend and it is used. Why tax

        • +1

Isn't it a new model that hasn't been launched?

Noticed the price on the official website the other day, but was wondering if we need to pay gst to get it posted to AU or at customs in case of bringing it, and whether it is worth than ordering from AliExpress straightaway?

  • +1

i have the xiaoxin pad pro 2021. the oled is nice.

  • +3

Does anyone know where to get a cover for this one ? or the sleeve.

  • +2

Does anyone know if you can use Family Link on these? as using it to control the kids usage times etc.

  • +2

Snapdragon 870 is older but solid.
Larger battery than ipad pro, nice deal for $400 take it easy, goodbye Apple.

  • -1

Honestly rather pay a bit more for Samsung tab S or iPad

  • +1

I saw the 2022 pad pro 8gb CN for a$480+ gst on AliExpress earlier today, if you look around the are some if OLED is preferred.

  • As someone who has little to no knowledge about tablets, should I get this or the Lenovo Legion Y700 for pure gaming?

  • Anyone get shipment notifications?

  • Will I be able to use shopback, cashback?

    • +1

I received 16.21 on cashrewards account, together with the code made it 403 delivered

  • -1

Is there a case for this Ipad?

  • Ordered twicr. Refunded twice. Did anyone have a different experience

    • I ordered 3 days ago, still not shipped.
Says "This order will ship in 6 days. If not, your refund will be issued automatically."

  • Sorry, this tablet is delayed, please help extend the order for 5 days, otherwise the order will be automatically closed after the processing time is exceeded.

    • I got the same message, not sure whether to extend or not?

      • Yeah. I'm umming and ahhing over it

      • I gave up and cancelled.

  • "when do you expect it to arrive?"

"it will need more 5 days but we changed and you have applied to cancel your order"

With the bad google translation, i interpret that is they dont have the stock, and it will take >5 days to be shipped.

  • Mine shipped today so all good

  • Ordered on last Monday night and received it yesterday. Turn it on, update f/w to the latest one, active Google play from the app store. Tried Netflix and confirmed it is running on HD. So far so good.
