  • I returned my Nest mesh system. One of the units kept losing connection. The only way to rectify was to power cycle the unit, so I had to put it on a timer to power cycle at 3am.

Then I thought - this is unacceptable, and returned it.

    Parental controls are also useless

One of the units kept losing connection.

I'm experiencing similar problems with mine, I just notice everything connected to it starts to absolutely crawl overtime and I have to powercycle it to get a working connection again. Not to mention the first unit I originally got kept dropping the WAN link. Do not recommend these at all.

      • That is strange. I have had mine for years and they have been really stable, but I just started to get this same issue lately. I assumed that it must be a hardware issue that developed since mine is fairly old, but if the same thing is happening in new units maybe it is a software issue caused by a more recent update.

        • I've had mine since 2020, had to replace the whole unit after it died in the first year, has been working since aside from the issue with the extender degrading.

          • @iuselect: Aha, so maybe it is a hardware problem then. It only happens once a month or so for me, but is annoying nevertheless.

            • @trippy: Correct and for google, I shouldn't have to attach it to an Arlec timer to power cycle!

I have the same issue, anything connected to the WiFi extenders slow to a crawl.

My main pc/laptop is connected to the router and that always seems fine.

Everything else connected to the two points slows to a crawl.

So everyday, i run a speed test to confirm, then reboot of required!

Just started happening, bought these 14/7/22!

I did read a firmware update + factory reset fixes it, but i don't know how to firmware update (couldn't find it), so I just did a factory reset to no avail.

        I'll look again!

        • All these responses are similar to what I eventually found out on forums : Google wifi not so good

        • I've factory reset my extender but that didn't really fix it. I haven't tried factory resetting my main router though, might try it if it gets really terrible.

    • Parental controls are also useless

The excellent parental controls is the main reason I have chosen to stick with Google Nest Wifi. What features are you missing?

      • Can't black or white list a domain. No control etc etc.

I opened my kid's ipad and could browse (unrestricted) adult sites, gambling sites, social media.

You might want to try yours!

  • I'm struggling to find Google Nest Cam Outdoor 2 Pack for $379.90 . Does anyone have a link?

  • This or tplink deco?

    • +1

Very interesting - I moved from Google to TP-ink Deco and could not be happier. Also better range as well, in my house!

      • That’s what I’ve heard too. People saying google drops out and cuts off but deco very well reviewed.
Ok maybe I’ll open the deco pack then

I just wanted to add 3 speakers to my existing google hubs and minis

  • @SimonM Google Nest WiFi Router and 2 Points (Snow) - AU/NZ Model is now $299. But OW has put it up to $395 so can still do a price beat to get it for $289.

  • Also, the chromecast and cheaper camera no longer available, and the better camera back up to $719.
