    $1000 Spend in 90 Days

So essentially just an Amazon/AliExpress dedicated ozbargain purchase card.

      & Boost deals

    Stupid CMmb staffs

  • +4

Besides the $250 cashback, what does this have over the no annual fee Coles Mastercard?

    • +2

      no automatic flybuy points?

      • And International transaction fees apply.

        This card is not competitive.

  • +5

Okay, these are very beginner type questions but:

How does this "cashback" stuff work here- do they literally just knock $250 off your bill after 3 months, or do you need to spend this 'cash' with specific retailers?

And is there anything stopping you from signing up for 3 months, doing the cashback thing, and then just cancelling the card?

    • +6

Normally T&Cs say you can only do this every 12 months. I have done CBAs offer twice now over the last couple of years. Both times the cash back has been credited to the credit card account within a couple of business days after the meeting the $1k spend and the transaction clears. It just credits it into the account and can be spent like normal using the card.

Can just pay off the account and close the account immediately and wait another 12 months to do it again.

      • Excellent, thanks.

I currently have a grand total of 1 credit card in this country, so am totally unused to how these offers work here.

        • +3

How many cards do you have in other countries?

          • +1

@Muzeeb: A lot more than one!

Come to think of it, not that many either. 4-5 and going down.

        • Aus consumer law is very strict. If an offer is said on a website etc. Then it must be filed. Especially for services area

    • +3

You get it as a statement credit. Think of it like a refund on your card. You can cancel as soon as you get the cashback.

      • do they transfer the $250 credit into your bank account if you close the account with balance > the limit?

  • +7

Love the way Commbank has flipped the laptop image :| Stock photos must be low fee, too.

    • Really cannot see your problem with this photo.

    • Scroll up, make an effort and try reading the description that op took the trouble to add.

  • +3

I got this card a few weeks back

Spent $1060 in the first day

Now waiting on $250 then close it down

    • -3

Won't that hurt your credit score real bad?

      • +1

Would it? He's paying off the full balance within the allowed time so no defaults on the account etc

        • I don't know that's why i asked. I have heard people say that if you take a credit card and cancel the credit card too soon it impacts your credit score.

          • +2

@ninohax: Every time you take a credit card, it impacts your credit score.
Make sure you understand the implications of this before you apply.

            • @Nom: Every time you take a credit card, it impacts your credit score.

What are the implications, where can I find more about this?

        • Not bothered about credit score….
Not looking to borrow or remortgage or anything any time soon.
          Own PPR.
Quick easy way to knock $250 of expenses…

…still looking for a good FF (QFF/VFF) reward card for some big expenses coming up,nlong gone are the days of zero annual fee or very low annual fee on any of those cards unfortunately

          • +1

@Spending2Much: @Spending2Much There are free credit cards with rewards - look at the Qantas American Express or the Coles MasterCard for example.

  • +17

Here’s data point for those keen on understanding rough timing for this card:
    Applied on 4th Aug 23
    Approved on 9th Aug 23
    $1k spent on 15th Aug 23
    $250 cashback received on 24th Aug 23

$1k spent paying Strata - $250 cashback is pretty decent return for few minutes it took to complete application.

    • Woah that’s fast. Amex needed 3 months after I spent the required amount to credit me with the points. And I had to chase them up with multiple calls.

      • On the other hand Amex credited my points within 3 days of completing the required spend.

    • +1

Noice. My council rates and next Body Corp rate are fast approaching. Might as well.

    • I never have a credit card before, I thought you have to buy product or service in general to be counted as spending. Paying bill or cash out was considered as cash advance which is a no-no, would love to have some kind of example so I know what to do when getting one in a near future.

      • +2

Paying bills (utilities, council rates, ATO, etc) are never considered as cash advance. Where do you hear about this? Ask your banks or check their T&Cs.

Some banks (probably most) have a restriction that you don't get points if paying bill to a government entity. You can still pay as normal but dont get any points. Things like paying car rego, ATO, council rates.

        • I only just read about this.

          https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/credit-card-edu…

"Making some bill payments (for example, where a credit card is used to pay a bill at a bank branch or via an approved agent of the biller)

Some payments to people/billers who don’t accept credit payments from the Credit Card Account (this may include payments through the BPAY® scheme, ANZ Internet Banking, ANZ Phone Banking and ANZ Mobile Banking)."

Now I am not sure if my council rates bills and my land tax assess notice bill are considered cash advances even if they have ways to pay their bill by card? p[lease clarify for me

          • @RQNinja: that line is talking about making bpay payments with your credit card, but if you’re just paying normally with your card it won’t be a cash advance

            • @theg00s3: So BPAY payments don't quality for cashback?

          • @RQNinja: Imagine what would happened if all Bpay are considered as cash advance. There won't be much use of that.

ANZ (and many other credit card providers) are just covering their legal responsibilities in case someone complained they didnt know about cash advance fees when using BPay.

That's depending on the merchant, not the service. If the merchant category code is classified as gambling then for sure will be treated as cash advance.

    • Hi, could you please remind again how to get the government transactions treated as normal ones from the card issuer prospective? Thanks

      • Look up Sniip.

        • Does zip or Afterpay work as well?

    • Thanks for sharing. I was concerned that 'spend $1,000 on purchases' meant actual purchases, and not bills.

    • Was your strata spend via BPAY? Thanks

  • +1

Just to confirm, existing customer as long as is not currently holding any cba low fee credit card, is eligible for this offer right?

  • +2

37 years old and I've just applied for my first credit card!

    • +1

So many things went through my mind…. but you are actually probably married with kids, a driver's licence, a mortgage and all that stuffs… rather than living in the basement of your folk's place!

I got refused my first credit card many years ago…. after an interview with the bank manager, he decided that because I'd only been a permanent public servant for just a year, I was too much of a risk. Times change!!

      • Haha. I got first cc after working 3-6m ft. Owned no house. Much later I defaulted and haven't looked back. Minimal amount. Credit score is excellent atm.

        • +1

Just because I can't figure it out, what is 3-6m ft? Cos its obviously not metres and feet.

  • -3

No bonus reward points for joining??

    • The card is calls Low Rate card, not Rewards card. What make you think you can get any points from using it?

      • Some folks just want to have their cake and eat it too.

  • +1

Can you use Beem to do a $1000 transfer and have it show up as a transaction?

  • I'm newbie, just wondering if there is any application or cancellation fees? And how to cancel the card? What happens to $250 received - is it on card or goes to bank account?
Last one, what is impact to the credit score by cancelling the card?

    • +3

      No application or cancellation fee.
The $250 shows as callback(refund) on your statement.
Card can be cancelled from CommBank app.
Your credit score will go up after sometime after you close the card.

      • +2

I think Crows comment combined with with RVsure's comment explain it nicely. its a refund on the CC and you receive it in a few days after meeting the 1k spend.

        $1k spent on 15th Aug 23
        $250 cashback received on 24th Aug 23

So best to spend 1k, wait 1week, get the 250 refund, then pay it off (remaining balance) or do whatever you want really, lol

        • Following this example, can you spend $1k on the 15th, pay it off on the 16th, and still recieve the $250 cash back on the 24th?

          • @spiderbite88: its a refund on the CC account itself, Id rather just get the cashback first then pay off the remaining balance (so for your case, you spend 1k, get 250 refund, pay back 750, then cancel the card or keep it open, whatever you want tbh). avoids any complications. If you spend 1k and paid it off a day after, you would have +250 on the CC in a week or so (given you stopped all spending on the CC), and im not sure if you can transfer CC funds back into other accounts (im sure that Commbank support can do it for you but hence my statement "avoids any complications"). If you plan to use the CC past one month then your plan is solid, but if you plan to cancel the card in the month, Id rather wait for the callback/refund first.

            • @ULT: Ok thanks, I have already paid it back, but I'll spend another $250 on it so my available funds is back down to $750. Then after cashback I should be back on $1000 available.

              • @spiderbite88: Sounds like a plan, you’ve already met the spend 1000 in 90 day requirement so you’re good to go regardless for the 250 cashback :)

  • Perfect timing. Just got email from last points hack deal to confirm bonus points. This looks like the perfect little card to get me by till the next points hack deal.

  • I'm trying to work this out. I'm holding a discontinued Low Fee Gold MC - does this make me ineligible under 'Offer not available on all other card types, existing cards, and switches from other card types and is not available to customers who currently hold, or have held, any activated Low Fee or Low Rate card types in the 12 months prior as a primary cardholder.*

My head is tripping over the any and card types bit…

    • +1

Yeah if you have a Low Fee card of any kind, you can't apply for this one to get the bonus!

      • I assume that they mean a 'CommBank' Low Fee card of any kind.

        • +2

Yes that's what I mean as well.

  • Does this have travel insurance?

    • +8

      Yes, all claims pay $0

      • +3

OMG, people are expect too much from a low end credit card.

  • Beginner question :3

Does international student can apply for this? Planning to buy some stuffs for house so thought 250$ cash back would be great

    • If you have a stable income then may be.

  • My daughters only have a CBA debit card . No credit rating yet. If they applied for the card are purchases interest free? So as long as she pays the balance by the due date , no interest is payable?
I see it as a way for them to establish a credit rating. On the website it says $6 fee?

Also it says this :8A maximum charge of $300.00 applies (or a flat fee of $4.00 applies if your closing balance on previous business day was in credit). So you cant put money into the card and have it as credit? They charge a fee?

    • +1

I have this card, yes all credit charges are interest free provided the debit balance is returned to zero within the allowable interest free period.

The card if fee-free so long as $300 is charged to the card every month.

Yes you can load the card with cash and subsequent charges are counted toward the $300 per month charges if that’s how you prefer to manage it.

  • +1

I have many credit cards … toooo many LOL…. with very high limits. I use those to get money at 2% or 3% as a balance transfer and pay the dollars into loans I am paying higher rates. I call it financial gymnastics :)

  • Can you reapply if you've already applied, got cashback and cancelled since then?

  • Just applied, thanks.

  • Can someone confirm, please, that spends on ShopBack etc gift cards would count towards $1K spend?

  • arbitrage ,

  • seems not good enough for a hard pull to credit file …

  • TL;DR how likely would one get rejected for $500 credit limit if you've got decent credit score but other credit/low income?

anyone getting rejected, rather not mark my credit file if probable

sole income DSP $1000 fortnight, already have commbank awards credit card was $2000 reduced to $500 months ago,
$2000 step pay cannot seem to reduce? afterpay and zip only used for promos & $3000 savings with another bank my CBA generally sticks around $100 until i PayID from a high interest bank

    via. clearscore
Experian CS 790 vs 783 AU AVG
illion CS 823 vs 695 AU AVG

never charged interest/late fees, but thanks to ozbargain discounted giftcards, cashbacks, buying things for family etc.. the random highly variable mess of input/output my entire bank account looks like someone who doesn't know how to manage money 😂

    • I got approved for 11k credit limit with a mortgage and some savings in offset and in my Commbank savings. Also did it online. Didn't really have to provide any evidence or documentation as I used my Commbank Everyday account to receive my salary and pay mortgage to my offset accounts with Adelaide Bank.

  • +1
    1. How much time does it take for CBA to process the application and deliver the card?
    2. Is there an option for a virtual card that we can access ASAP?
  • I sent them my last bank statement for the 3 months up to 22/8/2023.
They asked me for another statement for 22 - 29/8. How bizarre!

  • Do you need to wait for a statement, then pay off the card?

  • +1

I was conditionally approved and then rejected. First time for this.

"We've carefully reviewed what you've told us but are unable to offer you a credit card.
Let us know when your circumstances change… your next application may be more successful."

    • Did they ask for anymore info in-between the conditional approval and rejection? I got conditional then they're asking me for more info on closed credit cards and stuff

      • Nope. I uploaded payslips, loan document and then rejected.

  • If I combined this with Paypal pay in 4 for a $1200 purchased paid fortnightly, will the instalment (~$600) be counted toward waiving the monthly fees? Submitted my application a few days back and not sure if I remember this correctly but somehow my monthly fee came out as $6.00.. Would be good with the additional Paypal buyers protection..

  • +2

Their team, process, speed and logic of approving the applications is sh*t. I had similar experience last year like what others have mentioned.

I was also approved initially and then got rejected after submitting the applications. Understand $250 back on a spend of $1000 is a good deal, but these guys need to be boycotted and taught a lesson.

  • Hi, how does commbank count 12 months. i.e. last card closed on 1/09/2022 will I be eligible on the 2/09/2023 onwards or do they count it based on the last statement period (which goes later than the closure date). Thank you.

    • Generally it's 12 months from the date of closure of the card, but you never know, these guys are just as bad as sh*t, and could be making their own terms.

    • They should inform you either via mail or post the date that you requested to close. Then the clock is ticking from then.

  • How long does it take to receive the $250 after spending $1000?

    • Been 5 days since my purchased cleared and haven't received it yet

      • +2

Yeah, I am waiting now as well - 3 days so far.

Hopefully it is done this month so I can close the account and not be hit with the $3 monthly charge for October.

        • +1

Been 10 days for me and no cashback

          • @fatFingers: It has now been 3 weeks for you. Cashback yet??

    • Wouldn't you have to wait for the first statement, pay it off for it to start to process? I'm waiting, spent $1.5k already 7 days ago…

      • +1

No. I intend to only pay remaining $750.

I spent exactly $1000 to activate the $250 offer.
