Note this is only one sided printing.
    Full specs: https://www.epson.com.au/products/ecotank/ET-4810_Specs.asp

    • Correct it doesn't have auto duplex.

I have the ET-4800 model and it can only do manual duplex. You have to select 2 sided printing in the print settings and then manually feed the sheets to do it. But it's a bit of a nusense.

And I assume that the ET-4810 is only a revised version of the ET-4800 model.

    One sided printing ? Pass….

    • +1

You can print both sides, you just need to print then reload it into the tray.

Manual duplexing; That's like going to a tyre store for a free rotation and when you get there, there's a small sign that says, "Please note, you must rotate the tyres yourself."

C'mon now, you can print without manually typesetting the layout on a printing press, that's practically futuristic technology

        • It's not as hard as you think. You print out all the pages, then it prompts you to reload them. It'll then print the other side. Takes like 15 seconds.

I want full duplex ecotank style less than 1k

Check out Brother MFC-J4440 or Brother MFC-J4340.

We got one from Good Guys Commercial. Good printer, auto-duplex, small footprint.

    • +1

      Look at the ET-4850 then.

Looking to pull the trigger on this. Is there a good colour laser printer for similar price range?

    • +2

Yes, Brother colour duplex printers have shown up here before.

      • ohhh do you have a model number I can look up? thanks

        • +1

I'm on a phone. Maybe try searching for Brother and Laser on the Ozbargain search field. But it was several months ago.

    • Brother Wireless Colour Laser MFC Printer MFC-L3745 or L3750

Do the print heads block on these printers and if so how easy are they to unblock?

    • +2

I printed about 10 pages per year. Yes they dry & block up.
I tried putting a cleaning kit through mine & the printer is now in the bin.

      • Was it an Epson ecotank?

        • Yeah, Epson Ecotank ET-2850 - same as OP's without the ADF.
I really didn't use it much - once a month for a couple of years & always had to run a cleaning cycle.
But after maybe 3 months without use it was clogged & needed a cleaning solution pushed through the veins.
It managed one page after that & then threw up an error code 031006 - which is too hard to repair / termnal.

Ecotank or Godtier Brother Laser printers?

  • +2

Till today I wasn't aware there were people that liked duplex printing.

  • I need a new printer… But just so conscious of cartridge costs

    • Ink tank printers (like this one) are definitely a lot more economical than cartridge printers.

  • +1

Just be aware this has a vertical rear paper loader. You need a heap of room behind and above the printer to use it.
Any paper you leave in the printer also bends. For a printer that needs to be used regularly to ensure it doesn't block up, it's a crap design.

While I like the idea of a tank printer in theory, this one has some flaws. From rtings

    Can't print double-sided automatically.
    ADF can't automatically duplex scan.
Prone to printhead clogging and misalignment.

Another ozbargain commenter has confirmed the clogging.

In my opinion go for a brother laser printer

Quick google search brings up this one from Officeworks for $324, colour with auto duplex print and scan

Edit: bad example above, $450 for a multifunctional colour print scanner https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/brother-wi…

L3230CDW Is so pad at any photo imagery. Great with text and bar graphs but anything with photos creates terrible artefacts like a really low res jpeg. I know it’s not made for photos but I’ve never seen anything so bad. Tried the official driver, set it to fine. Not much difference.

I posted my experience on the other deal.

Using the Epson ET-3800 since January. $549 Officeworks. Up to over 8,000 pages on the counter, nearly all double sided colour duplex (book printing) on 100GSM high quality paper. Full coverage on many pages (colour photos etc, and only started using some of the 3rd bottles at $14 each for the colour) 250 in the tray.

You can adjust the density for duplex printing depending on the paper and quality you want. Using System print dialog allows you to adjust many things to your preference.

Borderless photo printing on good glossy photo paper looks great In my opinion. And I use Matte card photo paper to print the front and back covers of each book, ready for pressing, glue and cloth binding. Good paper is key.

It has a maintenance box for waste ink $16.00. Which is almost due for changing 1st time, just by sliding out the old one and pushing in the new one at the back of printer. So the waste tank is serviceable and cheap.

If left for a while, I just print a nozzle check, then it cleans the heads if required. Takes a couple of minutes. There is also a power clean function which purges the lines and print head. Never used it, and it uses a bit of ink to do that, but the ink is so cheap.

Definitely got my money's worth so far if it broke tomorrow. The ink feels like it's basically free.

I would not buy this cheaper model though for my needs, and I would get laser if you don't print much.

I forgot to mention I did buy a laser first. Brother Wireless Colour Laser MFC Printer MFC-L8690CDW.

Massive heavy printer, It arrived quite damaged and only managed to spit out a few pages along with bits of broken plastic falling out of it before I returned it for the EcoTank.

Quality was good, but the cost of replacement toners would have cost a relative fortune compared to the Ecotank.

I feel very lucky in a way the couriers smashed it up in transit, or I would have spent a lot on toners already.

I would actually love to have both these model printers at once. They both do different things at their best.
