Comes with pen which is nice, but I think 8GB of ram is pretty low and 16GB is a ridiculous extra $1000.

Not interested in this myself but a friend is super keen to buy it and I'm tryna talk him out of it. Maybe I'm wrong…

The IdeaPad Flex 5i Gen 8 14" features a 360-degree drop-down hinge and switches from laptop to tent to stand to tablet, suiting the task at hand. It even raises the keyboard for a more ergonomic typing angle. And it’s powered by up to 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processors enhanced by Lenovo’s AI Engine—so you can work fast and smart in any scenario.

These PC manufacturers are hilarious, 16gb RAM is the standard for Windows machines, please solder a 16gm RAM, or leave us a spare RAM slot for expansion, or just price the 8gb fixed RAM version at $600 max.

This is a stupid configuration from Lenovo. I agreed that it should be at $499 max

$1049 for a laptop with 8GB of soldered RAM is not a good deal, keep trying to talk your friend out of it.

Assuming he's only looking at 2-in-1 laptops, here's a very quick search for much better options:
Here's a 16" with 16GB of RAM for $960 (similar not great quality screen)

13" with 16GB of RAM and a better screen for $1239:

14" with 16GB of RAM, much better screen and a bigger battery for $1269 (my pick of the bunch):
