Rokid Max AR Glasses US$399 (Normally US$599) + US$10 Delivery (~A637) @ Rokid

80

A lot of people arguing whether these or nreal are better, and there are obviously cheaper brands around but these are my prefered pick. Postage comes up at $10 USD for me and you can choose to get various add-ons if you like. Also on sale on amazon AU and US but are about $60 - $90 cheaper direct from Rokid.

    Shame our dollar has tanked

    What are your reasons for going this over the nreal?

    • Yes i want to see comparison between them

  • +1

    399 is a pretty high price to get people to laugh at you, not a bargain.

    • +3

      That’s the price for the US, for people to laugh at whoever is using them in Straya is $621.11.

    These would actually be a great way to use the steam deck in bed without messing up your neck.

  • +3

    How do they call them AR glasses if they don't do room tracking? They're just the same old video glasses, right?

  • Reminds me of spykids

    Sorry eyes. I'm too poor to afford this

    I just got a set of TCL nextwear s glasses delivered yesterday from amazon. Which are pretty similar to these. To be honest i'm pretty disappointed in them. It doesn't feel like you're watching a huge tv from a few metres away like all the adds say. It feels like you've just got a phone close up to your eyes that is in focus. Just didn't work as good as i'd hoped. Anyway just sharing my experience. Returning them today.

      oh that's too bad, I was actually really impressed. Since April I have watched maybe like 50-55 movies, and maybe 100 episodes of several tv shows, and finished few anime on Crunchyroll. Its not perfect device since i cant see the whole screen without getting blurred edges, but its not like i need to see every single pixel on screen. But It is what it is.

      • @V003
        You have the same device TCL? hmm so much different reviews, interesting … especially this point:
        doesn't feel like you're watching a huge tv from a few metres away like all the adds say. It feels like you've just got a phone close up to your eyes
        what is your say about that?

        @krammis76
        maybe can try from amazon, easy to return as well. what was your return reason if i may know?

        • Yeah mate no dramas. I just said the screen didn't feel like it was the 200 inch screen from 3M or whare they said on the add. Amazon are pretty good with return's so I shouldn't have any issues. Don't get me wrong the tech is cool and maybe for the right person it might be good. Just wasn't what I was expecting.

          • @krammis76: yeah i had tried oculus VR but returned it due to feeling dizzy after a while playing certain games, super dizzy almost vomiting feeling. its just me not hardware fault of course
            then i just used it to watch movies but the thing was heavy, this glasses maybe better

            • @CyberMurning: It's funny you say that. In the little time i had the tcl glasses i also felt a little iffy with the fact that the screens turn when your head turns. I have a quest 2 and get zero motion sickness but the glasses made me feel a little weird. It's probably something you'd get used to though.

        • yes i have tcl s wear, I can understand why OP did not like it. My experience is opposite, one thing that i really liked was that there is not SDE on the screen, i had vive elite pro before, and also have quest 2 so i really liked that there is no grid pattern/pixals. As for your question, i don't think the screen is phone screen just close to eyes, TO ME it seems like a really big tv, colors on mini oled are also solid. the only caveat for me is that sometime connect it to steam deck or i will connect it ipad and use ps remote play/moonlight to game and edges on screen are blurr so cant see hud properly i have to adjust the glasses again and again to see what's there, but for movies/tv shows watching i am really happy with my purchase, Btw so some reason I cant play any streaming app other than youtube on Iphone 12 so I mostly use it with iPad 6 mini and use Apps like Plex, netflix, primevideo, Viki, crunchyroll etc.

          • @V003: hmm yeah interesting as i said i had quest too so probably we are may have similar experience/expectation.
            i read that i has more compatibility with android phone/apps than ios

            • @CyberMurning: Yes, its much better on android, i think you can use dex on Samsung device, but its also just plug and play on iPad mini 6, I bought their additional battery pack for iPhone, its waste of my money since i can't use any streaming app. TCL claim its good for 3d movies, it is not. These glasses are all about perception, if i am sitting on sofa and looking at wall from 12 feet distance, its looks like big home theater screen, if you dont put shade cover on glass, you can see through it, and my brain perceive the tiny screen as bigger screen. overall i am happy with tcl but its still an early adopter things. hopefully in a year or 2 we can get bigger and better, lighter screen on these glasses.

              One Important thing, some people find these too heavy and not comfortable to use. my sister didn't like that it weighed down on her nose. i am used to it because of quest 2;)

              • @V003: spot on. found one review on amazon (translated from japanese)

                If you compare it to a 32-inch monitor, does it feel like you're looking at it from a distance of about 70-80 cm…
                200 inches on the spec table? At least I didn't feel anything like that.

            • @karazy: oh so that's what happened. now that's (profanity) stupid, iphone 12 is old device? I wish i knew that before buying that battery pack. So it seam i may eventually use tcl glasses with newer iphone whenever i decide to upgrade.
              Thanks for the link.

                @V003: I don’t think it’s saying IPhone 12 is old.
                It is saying the new IOS 16 on your phone will now not support older hdmi adapters.

                Your phones software has been updated and it won’t support old hdmi adapters with old Digital Rights Management.

                • @karazy: Apparently I can't read. Thanks for clearing my confusion.

    The same people buying these would have had the glove for the NES.

    • omg! i thought i was the only one that remember those…hahahahaha but i 100% agree ^^

    • They have their uses. I bought a pair (Viture) simply because I fly a lot for work and was tired of getting a sore neck looking down at a tablet. Easier to pull out and wear on flights than a tablet too as you can just plug it into your phone.

      But never use them outside of travel.

      • @SirFlibbled where did u buy the viture? all review points to gaming. wondering if you've tried it as screen replacement for laptop? how's the experience?

        • I have connected it to my computer but didn't really use it as a replacement for my laptop. It was very clear but I did need to adjust the icons and text a little bit as it was a smidgen small. But you could conceivable use it. It plugged straight into the USB, no dock needed.

          I got it on Kickstarter but you can pre-order on their website now.

  • @AmazingJas
    can you give us your review of this product?

    • Ordered but havent received yet.

      @ChiMot
      So been using mine for a while.
      * Overall I really like them.
      * Image quality is great.
      * Using it with Steam Deck/Rocket League plays great but seems to use up more battery.
      * using with phone, battery seems about the same.
      * The dioptic adjustments didnt really work for me but I just wear my glasses underneath. Not ideal but works ok and only need it for precise games/text, movies are fine.
      * There is a bit of blurring at edges so I wouldnt recommend as a windows desktop monitor replacement.
      * You can have a massive virtual screen with headtracking for panning around but it doesnt work with everything.
      * Audio would be useless on a plane, but fine at home.

      But I'm happily using them everyday.

      • cool but sadly i have no budget for this…. so jealous!

    Whilst I've not used this device, I've had the NReals for around 6ish months now.

    On the whole I've been pretty happy with them, but I've also had a specific use case where having something I can watch or play games on in the dark whilst lying in bed is exactly what I need and want.

    Does it feel like a bigscreen tv? Kinda. It's certainly a hell of a lot better than craning my neck down to look at the steam deck or holding up the ipad.

    Is it worth > 500 bucks

    For me, the convenience and not having to worry about waking up an infant in the room make it worthwhile.

    Have the nreal/xreal air and have ordered the beam as well. These types of products are for very specific use case scenarios so unless you need it, I don't really recommend it. Having said that, I will recommend it if you have the following scenarios:
    - if you need privacy or don't want to disturb others
    - if you travel a lot (especially great on long flights)
    - if you don't have a large screen/room for a large screen at home
    - if you share a screen with other people in the house

    For myself, I was wanting to use it on public transport or when walking around but it started giving me headaches so I've stopped using it. Currently inclined to sell mine since I have none of the issues I mentioned above.
